  1. I second (or third :)) the Super Duper program mentioned.  We used several books from their catalogue for processing delays.  VERY helpful!  Our DD is also a sensory seeker and my husband built a platform swing that we hung in our garage.  She eventually learned to swing on her own to self regulate.  OT and the Brain Balance were also very helpful.  Bless you!

  2. Our daughter was diagnosed with FASD/Sensory Issues many years ago, and now that she is an adult, she has been issued a graduation diploma for completing a "modified" education.  She currently functions academically between 1st and 5th grade. She is working part-time at a company that created a job for her (thank you Lord) and she still receives hippotherapy.  I've questioned whether or not to continue some focus on academics-given her struggles. I would love to hear from anyone who has continued to homeschool into adulthood!

    Thank you!

  3. I don't know if you need another comment, but we had to scale back to the bare minimum subjects for my DD to make time to work on similar issues.  We did bring in speech and occupational therapists for evals, and went thru the public school for testing so to gain a better understanding as to what the root issues were.  It proved most helpful! Best to you!

  4. My daughter, just 18, is in the process of filing/testing for SSI.  We were told many who qualify are sadly denied.  The counsel above is some of what we received as well- assuming we as well, are denied.  The place where my daughter was tested said if we were denied, to call THEM and they would "push it through" since they were the agency SSI hired to prove eligibility.  I think, if able, a lawyer would be the wisest choice.  Please let us know what transpires!

  5. I'm a bit teary today for 2 reasons. Our daughter is 14 and has a hard time making friends due to her learning disabilities. Found out today that a group that our dd is starting to get to know, is having a sleepover and yes our dd isn't invited. Will it ever stop hurting? Ugh.

2nd reason for tears- another friend called (not knowing what had happened) to see if our dd could come play today. Thank you Lord.

For those of you in this season- how are you walking thru this? I'd love some counsel.

    Thanks- Gisele

  6. My girlie has the same issues...age 14. Many tears have been shed on this side too. What has your son been diagnosed with? I'm curious because everything you mentioned our daughter has done or is doing. We are going to use Susan Barton's Reading and Spelling Program this year and Right Start Math with hopes of seeing progress. I'd love to hear more of what you've done/are doing. In the meanwhile let's pray for our children and give MORE hugs and smiles!!

  7. I can't answer all of your questions but I've had surgeries where I was out of commission for a while. I had a few friends who offered to make meals - which helped but I also made some meals ahead, made lists for whoever was staying with my kids so they knew what they could eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks and I did leave money for any trips to the grocery store and for eating out. As to what to bring to the hospital...I did a quick Google search and actually saw a link to "What to Bring to the Hospital When Having a C-Section"! http://www.workitmom.com/articles/detail/6555 Hope this helps!!

    Bless you!

  8. My first son's wedding was beautifully simple. The wedding was held in the middle of the afternoon so to avoid having to provide dinner. They had elegant white boxes tied with ribbon that matched the brides maid's dresses- that contained a deli sandwich, piece of fruit and a bag of artsy looking chips ;). They had a candy bar and cupcakes. No one went away hungry and again it was beautifully done!
