  1. I started an Ugi fit class last month- it is perfect for supporting the moves I need to be able to do in jujitsu. The class is at 5:15 a.m.:( I've been making it about 2 a week and really love it. This morning was wonderful.
  2. I'm trying to put together a list of books and movies about the WWI and WWII from all over the world. The reading level can be anywhere from middle school to adult. I know my favorites but hoped the boards here could (please, please) help me with a more comprehensive list. I am even including movies like Saving Private Ryan in my list- because of the fairly realistic versus glorified portrayal of battles.
  3. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the responses. Before the bars I used to always depend on nuts but now we have severely severally nut allergic kids and I worry about breathing on them during clinch drills after having a quick bite. Bean burritos made me think of tamales too. Not sure if gas would be a problem..... worth trying though. I've never tried beef jerky. After reading all the answers I'm starving.
  4. Several nights a week I work at a dojo and don't have time to eat a meal between when I stop working and when I take my own MMA classes. I've been packing protein bars and a bannana- but the bars are all too sweet and expensive not to mention not exactly a whole food. Any suggestions for something easy to pack and eat without utensils that's full of lots of calories and protein?
  5. I cannot remember, Luckymama- is the nutrition advice in order to lose weight or to have more energy?
  6. I am trying to take 2 days a week off but it's not working. Friday and Sunday are supposed to be my rest days. M, W, and Thursdays I work out morning and evening. But at least Fridays and Sundays are non-impact. On Fridays I just drill technical jujitsu moves and stretch- so it's a brain workout and Sundays are now a barre class with my 16 yo dd because she begged me to- it's very restorative and refreshing. One of my teen aged teammates made a stupid mistake of leaving his training book in the gym 2 times in a row- and was assigned 400 pushups unless all the team agreed to do 200 each, in which case he only had to do 200. So I still need to get 150 done. I just have to get to September.....
  7. I took a barre class on Sunday- it was a lot of fun, never done one before. Monday- worked at MMA then took a karate class and a jujitsu class. Today- 2 karate classes.
  8. Have you considered Brazilian Jujitsu? It's another art that takes much longer to progress in. Generally it's 8 to 10 years for a blackbelt. I've never heard of anyone under 18 that's a blackbelt. It requires a time commitment but most schools offer programs with lots of weekly slots to choose from.
  9. Congratulations! I'm just hoping that by Monday I'm over the worst of the detox so I'll be a nice homeschool mommy. Yesterday- dh and I did a 3.2 walk. Then I stretched and did a few half hearted katas.
  10. I've been out in no man's land as far as wifi and cell signal- but back at home now. That would be great! I enjoy reading about everyone's work and have been wondering if this group was about to die off. Instagram would be fun but how will we work it out? Btw- very few workouts- mostly just long walks... Today is my first day of no sugar and it's only lunch time and I'm already cranky.
  11. I walked 2.5 miles with a dd during a brief break in the rain. Snickerdoodle- I did have to guilt said dd to leave her new stack of books...
  12. 6.11 mile walk with dh that included a couple of sprints and lots of hills. It is so hot here we sweated and I was just in capris and a t-shirt. Weird! Confession: I opened a present early per my dh's request- a Fibit:) I'm learning all about it, does anyone here post on communities there?
  13. I hope you got a car:) I must, must, must run today. For my mental health:) I also must, must, must do 2 million other things...
  14. Light day today- jujitsu drilling at 10. Then housework.
  15. Today- so sore from Saturday's karate testing that I slept in my br@ rather than try to reach my arms around to undo it:) Tonight 5+ hours of MMA work/play. My sensei mentioned that his goal for tonight was to make us so tired and sore that we thought of him often over Christmas break....
  16. Post your workouts here- everyone welcome! Any exercise goodies on your wishlist?
  17. I didn't mean to "like" that you have a stomach bug in the house. My 8 yo had it last week- it was short lived and didn't spread further- I hope your house is well now!
  18. Today I work our school's Goju Shorei testing from 9:30 till 2. Then at 2 I get tested. I only find out 2 weeks ago and I do not feel prepared- i didn't think i was testing again till March. grrrr.
  19. I have blood work at 9:00 for a routine physical; the required fasting till then may kill me, Bjj drilling today and I have to make time for kata and thai combo drilling at home.
  20. This looks like a great kettle bell assisted stretch/exercise. Today I drill bjj with my instructor and then tonight I have 2 classes at MMA. Hope everyone's week is going smoothly.
  21. i can't imagine that blue would show sweat more than black. I have gray lulumon tights that don't show sweat. Yesterday's schedule was interrupted by my 8 yo stomach virus. I'm just hoping it stays confined to him. Tonight I work/play at MMA for my shift:) I hope to get a run in or some yoga for bjj before hand but it's looking unlikely as I still need to get Christmas shopping done.
  22. I agree- much harder for me to not psych myself out when on the treadmill. Sunday I got a 4 mile walk in the hills of Co Springs before spending the rest of the day in airports. The air there is so clear and crisp. Monday- a nice cobweb clearing 2.5 mile run this a.m. Tonight I have work/play at MMA for 5+ hours.
  23. Thursday- long walk in Colorado and grappling class at a school i contacted prior to arriving in town. Wonderful time, I just wish there was more oxygen in the mountains:). This martial arts school welcomed me to workout there anytime I travel to CO for my sister's cancer treatments- at no charge.
