  1. Interesting. We used to eat them whole all the time as little ones. Apparently it sounded like a machine gun when we hit the pot after! I guess that wasn't a good idea.
  2. The Geneva Bible – 1560 In the beginning was the Worde, and the Worde was with God and that Worde was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by it, & without it was made nothing that was made. Tyndale’s Bible – 1525 In the beginning was that Word, and that Word was with God: and God was that Word. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by it, and without it, was made nothing: that made it. Tyndale’s New Testament – 1530 In the beginnynge was the worde, and the worde was with God: and the worde was God. The same was in the beginnynge with God. All thinges were made by it, and with out it, was made nothinge, that was made. Matthew’s Bible – 1537 Used “it†instead of “him" in John 1:3-4. Coverdale’s Bible – 1539 & 1540 In the begynnynge was the worde, and the worde was with God, and God was ye worde. The same was in the begynnynge with God. All thinges were made by the same, and without the same was made nothinge that was made. The “Great Bible†of 1539 Used “it†instead of “him†in John 1:3-4. The Bishop’s Bible – 1568 Used “it†instead of “him†in John 1:3-4. There is no justification for seeing the logos as a "he" instead of an "it." Another verse to compare with John 1:1 Is. 55:11
  3. The Word in John one is the plan and purpose of God. A study into the greek word 'logos' shows this. It came to reality in Christ, who was the Word made flesh. He perfectly portrayed the Father in his thoughts and actions. However, many Christians do believe the Bible is the infallible word of God, apart from errors in translation. And yes, there is Biblical basis for this, as has been pointed out. I don't know. Paul says that we need to study to show ourselves approved unto God, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. I don't believe that we need a Church to interpret it for us (history has shown that that doesn't bode well). As far as what the Bible can do for us, here's a list: BLESSING: Luke 11:28, Romans 15:29 ENLIGHTENMENT AND GUIDANCE: Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:130, John 8:31-32, 2 Corinthians 4:4, 2 Timothy 1:10, Hebrews 4:12 ETERNAL LIFE: Luke 4:4, John 6:63, Philippians 2:16, 2 Timothy 1:10, 1 Pet. 1:23-25, 1 Pet. 4:6 FAITH: John 17:20, Acts 4:4, Acts 15:7, Acts 16:32-34, Romans 10:6-9, Romans 10:17 FELLOWSHIP: Luke 8:21John 5:37-38John 8:31-32John 8:43 John 12:48John 14:24 Acts 13:462 Thessalonians 3:14 Philippians 1:51 John 1:10 1 John 2:5 GRACE: Acts 14:3, Acts 20:4, Acts 20:32 HOPE: Colossians 1:5, Colossians 1:23 JOY: Acts 16:32-34, Philippians 2:16 PEACE: Acts 10:36, Romans 10:15, Ephesians 6:15 POWER: Luke 4:32Romans 1:16, 1 Corinthians, 1:182 Corinthians 4:6-7 RECONCILIATION: 2 Corinthians 5:19, Colossians 1:21-23 REPENTANCE: Acts 2:37, Acts 2:41, Acts 16:32-34, Romans 10:6-9 SALVATION: Matthew 13:23, Luke 8:15, John 5:24, Acts 13:26, Acts 13:46, Acts 13:48, Romans 1:16, Romans 10:6-91, Corinthians 15:1-2, Galatians 3:8, Ephesians 2:13, Ephesians 3:6, Ephesians 6:14-17, 2 Thessalonians 2:14, 2 Timothy 1:10, 1 Peter 4:6, James 1:21 SANCTIFICATION: John 14:3, John 17:17-19 , Ephesians 5:25-26, 1 Timothy 4:4-5 SPIRITUAL REBIRTH: 1 Corinthians 4:15, 1 Peter 2:21-23, James 1:18 STRENGTH TO OVERCOME: Hebrews 13:22, 1 John 2:14 TRUTH: 2 Corinthians 6:7, Galatians 2:5, Galatians 2:14, Ephesians 2:13, Colossians 1:5, 1 Thessalonians 1:13, 2 Timothy 2:15, James 1:18 WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING, DISCERNMENT AND JUDGEMENT: Psalm 119:95-104, Luke 8:2, 1John 5:37-38, John 8:31-37, John 8:4, 3John 12:48, John 14:24, Acts 13:46, Colossians 3:16, 2 Thessalonians 3:14, 1 Timothy 5:17, Titus 1:9, Hebrews 2:2-4, Hebrews 5:13, 1 Peter 2:2, 1 Peter 4:6, 2 Peter 1:19-21, 1 John 1:10, 1 John 2:5
  4. That's hilarious!!! Poor poochie! I think I'd scour the internet for how to deal with superglue mishaps, as even the vet probably hasn't come across this one!
  5. I think the sprinkler is a brilliant solution!
  6. Well, thinking back to my youth, I was mentally absent (when not physically absent) from grades 8-11 due to family troubles, and still managed fine in university. So, one year, when your kids are younger, is something they can certainly recover from!
  7. Beautiful day where I am in Canada. 32C (about 90F). We went to the beach for the second time this week!
  8. We have this kind and it's wonderful. Any injuries have been insignificant. But I would be completely uncomfortable with a group of kids on a trampoline with no net. One at a time I'd be okay with. Double bouncing can happen so unexpectedly. And with your husband so worried, I'd just say it's a no. I had a friend break both wrists that way. Poor dear couldn't wipe her own rear for ages. It was very hard on her!
  9. Might be totally unrelated, but I've noticed that I do that when I need an increase in my anxiety meds.
  10. Mine isn't there yet, but yes, you're right that it is very hard on her! When I'm PMS'ing and have a hard time controlling my emotions, and I know what's causing it and have dealt with it for years, it makes me wonder how my dd will manage when she has to experience it. While the reactions may seem out of proportion to the incident, her feelings are very real to her. Talk to her about ways that you deal with moodiness when it happens to you, and help her to find her ways to manage.
  11. Oh dear. My first thought when I read the title of the thread was to dissect them. Don't do that. I think I need a psychiatrist.
  12. My ds is on level D this year in grade 3, and he's doing wonderfully with it! Compared to the math skills of the kids in the schools around here that he's friends with, he's solidly a year above grade level. It is time intensive to teach, and it doesn't resonate with all kids. My daughter really hated it and is doing far better using Math Mammoth. I will certainly try again using it with my youngest when he's a little older.
  13. The one that comes to mind for me is in 2 Peter, where's we're told Noah is preaching. Here it is....2 Peter 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
  14. My perspective is from a Christian one (and not one that's especially common to most). I don't think patriotism is a good quality, in the sense of "I'm proud to be a ______ " . I see myself as a stranger and pilgrim on the earth, with my allegiance being to Christ as my King. The nations of this world are corrupt, and I won't swear any allegiance to them. I don't sing my national anthem, or wave a flag on my house. I won't fight for my country or play a role in politics. I won't cheat on taxes and will obey the laws of the land to the degree that they don't conflict with God's commands, but when it comes to being thankful for the freedoms that I have, I thank God for being able to enjoy those, and I don't consider them to be my rights.
  15. Thanks Ladies. I was concerned about other kids - my dd isn't sensitive or allergic.
  16. I use coconut and almond oil as a moisturizer on my dd's skin and hair daily, and as I was slathering her this morning, I began to wonder if this is a safe thing to do considering the severity of nut allergies out there. If it hadn't fully soaked in and a kid with an allergy touched her, could that set of a reaction? Are coconuts and almonds often ones that people react to, or is it mostly peanuts? And how about sending my dairy-allergy son to places with almond milk to drink, or coconut yogurt to eat. Is that a no-no?
  17. I can't do new paragraphs either! I thought something was wrong with my keyboard!
  18. This isn't something I'm experienced with, but I do know how hard it is to watch your child suffer and not be able to do anything to fix it. It's so hard on a mom, and you have all my sympathy.
  19. Lovely home.... but I wish this thread had started out with someone's messy-ish house. I'd be more inclined to share some shots of my house!
  20. Oh that's lousy. I'm thinking stocking up your wardrobe with lots of light flowing dresses and light pants might be helpful. Lots of fun hats and some sun umbrellas.
