  1. Called my nearest gas station and they were able to direct me to someone with a trailer. Got horsey to the vet and he has been taken care of. Now I really need to focus on the free curriculum, because that was a bit pricey. ;)
  2. I cannot get a vet to come to the ranch right now (and I am not convinced of the necessity). Our Arab gelding who has no history of choke, choked a bit this morning. He was in obvious distress with saliva and food particules coming out of nose and mouth. I began to massage his esophagus pretty forcefully and he spit out a decent bolus of food. Dd is presently walking him around the pasture. He still has some green saliva coming from his nose and is not in the greatest of moods. Keeps putting his upper lip in the air in stud fashion. What else can I do for him? He has defecated, is not agitated enough to start rolling, but is not happy. My thinking is we just wait this out. Okay saliva is starting to clear up in color. I have been around horses a long time and have never seen one basically throw up! Granted it wasn't stomach contents, but eeeeewwwwww!
  3. As I was reading through their forums today (what weird forums! only one response per post. No discussion?) I saw this. Between the whole one post thing and this https://forums.sonlight.com/topic/317650-what-is-americas-unique-position/ I found it a bit concerning. Now, a company that has changed around this much could quite easily change things back. Maybe, they underestimated the confusion this would bring and the strong feelings people have about these books. I am guessing when they took them out originally, many people saw it as a sign of their pursuit of accurate history and respected them for it. Now they do not know how to feel. Just some thoughts.
  4. Artsy me gives a hearty approval! I really like it and I have only looked at the older books. Thankyou!!!!
  5. Yeah, after reading the reviews I got the same impression. :001_smile:
  6. My mom lives on some acreage in Prescott. In fact she is getting a couple alpacas next month. She owns an art gallery on the square called Artrageous. ;) I still consider Prescott desert, just high desert. ;) .....but I really miss the mountains!
  7. This brings up the next question. How do I handle the guilt I feel about just throwing something away. I live to far out to make easy trips to a donation place, have little storage, and am out of range for a pick up or to make a garage sale useful. I want to just throw stuff out, but then I feel guilty. :tongue_smilie: Help me overcome my "wastefullness" guilt.
  8. If you have successfully de-cluttered your home, do you regret anything? How do I even start? Can anyone link to examples of de-cluttered? Thanks!
  9. what about these two? I know they are cheap, but this is for a twin so things get expensive fast. Budget definitely has to be watched. ;) http://www.amazon.com/Celestron-21024-FirstScope-Telescope/dp/B001UQ6E4Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1331929641&sr=8-3 http://www.amazon.com/Starwatcher-Compact-Refractor-Telescope-Carrying/dp/B000BY2DJQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1331929783&sr=8-4
  10. I live close to the observatory http://www.hmns.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=107&Itemid=115 There are just so many stars and planets at night that I really want to get him something for here at the house. Hmmm.....still thinking. :D
  11. I'm on over 200 acres, surrounded by other ranches of about that size, and I have another 200+ acres of river authority land behind my property line. I grew up in remote settings. Not rural, more Island. Here is what is hard. I cannot go to church as often as I would like. It is Lent and EO has a lot of extra services, but I have to pick and choose. My kids have a lot of room to explore and play and are at an age where they want more independence. This can be scary when I consider poisonous snakes and other predators. We utilize walkie talkies. Mud and smell. Sometimes the smells are really nice though! Lupines, honeysuckle and clover. Kids activities, this is probably the hardest thing! There is a lot they can explore here, but are limited from other social activities due to how much I can drive. It can be nerve racking when an unfamiliar car comes down the drive. I would not trade it for the world. I do not miss living in a subdivision. I felt so trapped! I love having the gardens and animals, campfires any night, stargazing, wildflowers, beautiful views, nature. Mostly I love having space and privacy!
  12. Large laundry baskets by the front door. ALL shoes get placed in it and it stays outside. Nice shoes are taken off and taken to bedrooms. Socks may need to be removed as well. Keep a few towels near doors to wipe paws. Good mats at doorways. It is warm enough here that I have started forcing the kids to use the outside shower to hose off. Especially when they do this..... Most importantly: teach children to sweep really well!!!!! ;)
  13. I am looking for a telescope for ds9 for his birthday. I know nothing about telescopes. Any ideas on what I should get. He has also asked for a metal detector.
  14. Yes, but they are not my cows, so not my money! ;) Someone else leases the ranch land that my house sits in the middle of. They are very curious and getting big enough to cause damage.
  15. Any ideas on how I can keep them away from the house at night? They like to congregate near the house and shed some evenings. Now, that the weather is nice I like to keep the widows open, but there is a bit of a smell. :tongue_smilie:
  16. I will be reading this thread with interest. My son just started these and is in the throes of one right now. :glare: It has not been a good morning for him. I cannot fathom a trigger since he woke up with this one. He has not even had is ADHD meds.
  17. Welcome! You literally just described my son, down to the drawing for hours! How can I child who draws so well...write so bad? ;) This is one of those weird thoughts that flow through my head. Just a thought on math. We started with MUS, but actually moved over to Rod and Staff for this particular child. The main reason was having a simple layout that was going to fill in the holes he had. It is extremely repetitive, simple blacklines, and falls somewhere between mastery (MUS) and spiral (Saxon). I am going to be changing this (most likely to Saxon), but am very thankful for the time spent with Rod and Staff. Just an FYI: the publishers are religious and that can make some of the story problems wonky, but I have not found anything that works quite like it in a remedial way.
  18. I wonder if that is part of what this is about. Are they trying to become "christian enough?" It was really sad to me as well. It was also something that makes no business sense to me at all, but I have seen it happen quite a few times with religious companies that have undergone a change in leadership. There have been quite a few threads recently that mention these issues. I know a few, that have experienced this, can be contacted via pm. I considered just going with an older IG and piecing the books together, but this is an issue that really rubs me wrong.
  19. Someone has already answered the LA issue. I was looking strongly at either TOG or Sonlight a little while ago. I decided to go with TOG. The reason boiled down to the changes in "attitude" Sonlight was displaying. They are moving in a direction towards only wanting a "certain" type of Christian as a customer. I started a thread a couple weeks ago asking for information about Sonlight. I received quite a few pm's from people who had directly received insulting emails. Not a smart business decision if you ask me. ;) This was before the most recent book issue. OTOH, TOG has gone out of it's way to be more accessible to a more general Christian clientele. I had looked into TOG a couple years ago and it was too "Reformish" for me to use. It is still put out my Christians from a Reformed backgrounds, but I have found it easily adaptable to my theology. (we shall see what the future holds though) Also, with the DE version of TOG I get future updates included and have found the early years easy to substitute books I have on hand. Hope that helps someone.
  20. amy g. is the one to contact ;). I am just starting this venture. I have one pregnant Nubian and her little buddy. You need a minimum of two goats. One would probably be enough for your family, but with a newborn I am thinking you might need two (in milk). Your 1/4 acre would be fine, but to produce good quality milk they will need alfalfa and minerals. We use pelleted alfalfa from the feed store.
  21. I saw the show was scheduled for April 2. Just wanted to make sure I had not missed and episode. ;)
  22. Does anyone know when the last new episode of Bones aired? I am so confused and cannot tell if my DVR is being weird or if it really has been THAT long. :glare:
  23. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Look at the cute pink ears!!!! Right now, dh does not have kind feeling towards cows. One took off he rear view mirror last night, which he then drove over this morning. He just mentioned eating LOTS of beef when Lent is over. ;)
