  1. WOW, these are all wonderful advice. I will definitely try them and hope and see that it gets better. I want peace in our home again, and with all this going on , we really do not have peace in our home. Thank you everyone for the great suggestions. :001_smile:
  2. Hello, Has anyone or does anyone have an suggestions, ideas on how to correct this situation that I have been going through ever since I started homeschooling my son. He is 11 years old and he is constantly teasing his 5 year old sister. When he teases her she yells and he loves it, when she cries he starts laughing. I get furious and start taking privileges away and he then gets furious. Once the privileges come back he starts it all over again. Any suggestions, I am running out of ideas of what to do to make him stop it. Thanks Lillian
  3. Thank you HeartsJoy for your thoughts. I am thinking of getting him to a Sylvan or something like that to help him with the reading and possible advance him and at least get him to his grade level. Thanks again.
  4. Hello, My son is on the autistic spectrum and he is 11-1/2 years old. I pulled him out of PS in April of this year. He loves being homeschooled. I wanted to know if anyone can share with me a great program that will help my son read better( he is a slow reader) , comprehend better and enjoy reading. Also, his behavior has been a bit out of control lately. He is talking back, not really listening when told to stop something or do something. He constantly and daily loves to tease his younger sister who is 5, and I have taken privileges away for not listening or not stopping, any suggestions. When his sister is around where he is learning he is distracted and just laughs at her and teases her. I know she is young still but there will come a time where they will both have to sit together and learn together....any suggestions. Any help anyone can share with me I would so appreciate it. Thanks Lillian

  6. Thank you everyone for the great advice. I will have him do more exercise. Also I am starting to read Shepherding a Child's Heart, which I am excited to read. I have also just purchased the If/Then chart and will be applying it as soon as I get it. I believe that will also help, since there is a consequence and I will keep it posted around the house there will be no surprises and he will know what will happen if he has an unpleasant behavior. Thanks Lillian
  7. Susan, Thank you so much for the link. I will look into it and apply it. Thanks
  8. Hello, Thanks for all the great advice. My son has trouble with reading words, he doesn't sound out all the letters in the word. I try to help him and suggest to him to break the word up, which is how I learn hard words..and it really helped me. Once he can see words and sound out all the letters in the word, he will be able to read faster and therefore understand somewhat of what he is reading because the story would not be as boring from the slow reading. Thanks Lillian
  9. Can anyone share with me a good remedial reading program? My son is 11 and a very poor reader and very poor in comprehension, hence, he does not like to read because he just doesn't understand what is going on in the story. Thanks Lillian
  10. Hello, My 11 year old just doesn't want to listen to me and when I reprimand him he laughs in my face....it is so hurtful. I feel so hurt. He has lost respect for me and I do not know what to do. Sometimes I have contemplated sending him back to school since he would probably listen to a teacher rather than me. I have read some parenting books and have tried different things and they just don't work for me. I have been told to purchase Tedd Tripp : "Shepherding a Child's Heart" and I have been told it would help me to help him. Just wanted some feedback out there in regards to anyone who has read this book and has applied the principles and has helped their families. Thanks for listening and for your help. Lillian:confused:

  12. Hello, I am fairly new to homeschooling and I just found out about Awana. It seems like an awesome program and looking forward to having my two children attend. Just wondering, are there any other programs that would benefit homeschool children especially with socialization that may run in churches? just curious. Thanks Lilly :001_smile:
  13. P.S. I have a 5 year old daughter too, what are you using in teaching your 5 year old to read? Just wondering. Thanks
  14. Hi TexasMama, I am homeschooling my two children for similar reasons, Where I live I do not the school system and how they teach and the type of children in the school, the cost of private school and my son has also a learning disability. My son is very quiet and just wants to make friends and play with other kids and because my son was pulled out for different types of therapies(speech, O/T) they made fun of him and bullied him. He went to public school until the end of 4th grade and finally with a lot of prayer I pulled him out. Thanks for your thoughts. Lilly
  15. Hi Christina, Thanks for the info. I will look into the forum for Logic Stage info. I am sure that this is typical at this age, but still my husband has had enough and isnt very happy. Again, I am looking to see how I can make things better and show my husband that homeschool will be better and taking him to a school will not change the behavior he is having right now. Thanks Lilly
  16. Hi TexasMama, Thanks for your thoughts. I will look into that book Age of Opportunity. You homeschool your other kids, why did you not homeschool your oldest? Was there a particular reason? And why do you homeschool your other children? Just wondering? Thanks Lilly
  17. Hello, My son is having a hard time listening at home, he is 11 years old. My husband was always supportive for homeschooling him, but now because he is talking back more and not wanting to listen at home, he is thinking that it is best to put him back in school. It is breaking my heart, because I feel that God wants me to homeschool my children. I am in such a dilemma. My son is upset and doesn't want to go to public school or private school, but my husband feels since he is unable to listen at home and talks back to us, he can't do it at school and therefore it would be better. My husband tells me that he feels this way because he feels it gives me a break, yet I tell him that I would like to continue homeschooling. All I do is pray for God's direction, a word from God and help with my son listening at home and to stop talking back to us. I don't know if there is any book that would address this problem even if the child is older (11) and can help me help him. Please pray for me. Thanks and blessings, Lilly
  18. I am looking to see if anyone knows of a good free Kindergarden curriculum? Also what is ideal for a Kindergarden to know and memorize? My daughter is very smart and I wanted to give her what she needs to learn that the PS system would probably teach at 1st grade. Thanks :001_smile:
  19. Hi Kai, My son already reads out loud for 1 hour daily. He also does Reading Detective to help him learn to look back at a story and answer comprehension questions. We read together and I read a lot to him also. Thanks for the book suggestions. Lilly
