  1. It is by the same author as PP and the description talks about reading pyramids, so maybe it is the same. :o Shannon
  2. Hi- I've used both with my son. I have the newer edition of TWTM which suggested OPGTTR, so I started with that. (I had looked at a friend's copy of PP and it seemed a bit confusing to me at first.:o) I liked OPGTTR at first because I was just starting "lessons" with my son and because it told me what to say, I was reassured that I wasn't forgetting anything. But after a while, I felt like we could use some more practice and got a copy of PP and started with that at the beginning, basically using it as a review. My son loves PP! He really likes reading the lists. So, I've continued to work our way through OPGTTR because we were so far through it, but if I were to do it again I'd probably just go with PP. Good Luck! Shannon
  3. Both of these sites are great! Thanks for sharing all of this information.:) Shannon
  4. Lyra also makes a set of 12 pencils that are skin colored. I saw them at a local toy store before Christmas, but when I went back they were gone. So, I'll probably have to get them online. Shannon
  5. Thank you! That helps a lot. Shannon
  6. Thanks! Did you use it after Phonics Pathways? Shannon
  7. Has anybody used Reading Pathways? I'm wondering how different it is from Phonics Pathways and if it would be helpful to solidify the skills my son is learning. Thanks! Shannon
  8. I'd try prune juice. You might also want to keep a food diary to see what she is eating/drinking now to see if, perhaps, she is getting too much of something. Good luck. Shannon
  9. Thanks for all these suggestions. Now I've got lots of ideas to check into! Shannon
  10. Hi! I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on where to get manipulatives for fractions? I would prefer wooden ones if I can find them. I thought I had seen some one time and now that I am looking for them, I cannot find them. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Shannon
  11. Hi! My name is Shannon and I currently live in NJ with my husband and 7 y.o. son. We moved here 4 1/2 yrs. ago for my husband to attend seminary and we've got another 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 yrs. to go! If you would have told me 8 years ago that I would be homeschooling I would have said, "Yeah, right!" But that's all we've done and I cannot imagine doing anything else. I just recently found this board and I can tell already that you all provide a wealth of knowledge and advice about homeschooling. Shannon
  12. I, too, think your reaction is appropriate. I have just started reading a book called Hold On To Your Kids: Why Parents Need to Matter More Than Peers by Gordon Neufeld and I think it would be an interesting read for parents of teenagers. Kids often allow things to be said/done to them in order to fit in, but that doesn't make it ok. Shannon
  13. I enjoyed reading your son's essay on the gun he didn't get! (As well as seeing the pictures of the pets.) We just gave our son the wooden rifle that was my husband's when he was a kid. Shannon
  14. We post pictures of our cats too, and our son is only 7! :o We got a new kitten in the fall and my husband was posting so many pictures of the kitten, that a friend requested some new photos of our son. I've been trying to keep a better balance now!;) Shannon http://www.judahmo.blogspot.com/
  15. We use Getty-Dubay and really like it. I had started with some traditional ball and stick program and switched to the GD when my son was 6 1/2. I also got their book for adults/older students and have been improving my handwriting along. Shannon
  16. Hi! I'm new to this board, but we're in central NJ too. I hs my just-turned-7-year old son. Shannon
