Only for one.  The others eitherI got the dog past puppy stage or else hadn’t yet known about Dremel.

Hence cheese, liver etc.  😄.   Used gradual approach, like getting dog used to and treated for allowing it to touch claws without being on, separate from accepting it on and making noise without touching...

(I tend to have big dogs with thick nails.  I think that makes clippers a worse experience than for small dogs with more delicate nails. So might make my experience with adults opposite of @Pawz4me. )

That’s an interesting observation about the clippers being a worse experience with bigger dogs. Our lab hates them. Even with treats it is an unpleasant experience for everyone. Our cat, with obviously smaller nails, is much more compliant.

The new puppy is going to be a big boy, so we may have to look into the dremel. Perhaps the lab could be acclimated to it too.

I like that article- thanks for asking about it since I missed original thread!

Adding- fwiw, most of our dogs have preferred grinding nails with a rotary grinder (dremel or similar) to having them clipped.    With maybe one or two dog exceptions in my life,  cheese, liver, peanut butter  or similar has been needed .

    You’re welcome!

Did you start usng the dremel when when they were puppies?

  3. Okay hive, I need help looking for an old thread here about trimming a dog’s nails. Someone had posted a link for a really detailed explanation of how to cut a dog’s nails. I think the website was by a veterinarian and she may have been  Canadian. (Maybe specializing geriatric dogs?)

I’ve used the search feature here and done a google search of the site and I can’t find it.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

  4. I ordered two of the ones they recommended, we couldn’t get them to work. My son ended up using my Fitbit HR, worked great!

Thank you! How frustrating that you couldn't get them to work.  That's why I'm trying to see what other options there are.  They aren't inexpensive, they're hard to find, and I can't find many reviews about them.  We don't have a Fitbit, so that isn't an option.

I guess I'll keep looking.  Thanks again!

  5. There are also lots of videos on YouTube that either call it “chevron crochet†or “crochet ripple stitch afghan.†I haven’t watched any, but given the large number of them it’s entirely possible there’s one that might click for you.

It’s definitely a thing. I have several baby blankets crocheted that way and my mom had a large adult size one in the same style.

    Thanks!

I found one site that talked about some of the variations, such as number of stitches on each side of the point and stitch height. I think it only mentioned adding three stitches at the top and skipping two at the bottom. I haven’t done enough crocheting to know if that is something that can be altered without totally messing it up! ;)

A video is a good idea. Maybe I can find one that talks about the chevron pattern in general and get an idea of how it works and then use the number of stitches from the book.

  6. Chevron's should be easy but I just can't master them.

The book makes it sound so easy! Ten stitches up to the top, add one, nine stitches down to the bottom, skip one. Most of the patterns I’ve looked at seem very different.

I saw somewhere that the author was asked if it was a real pattern and she said it is and that she’s made a number of blankets with it! I’m new to crochet, so I was hoping to find a simple explanation of it.

  7. I was curious if any crocheters familiar with the book Esperanza Rising could tell me if the crochet pattern that Abuelita teaches Esperanza is an actual pattern.  It sounds easy, but I can't find any zigzag or wave patterns that seem as simple as what is described in the book.

    Thanks!

  8. I have a Brother HL-3140-CW that I love. I bought it in January 2016 and have used it pretty heavily for lapbooks, b&w maps, and other assorted color printing jobs. I'm still using the toner cartridges that came with it. It is AirPrint enabled which is a must for me. It does not duplex, but I have a Brother HL-2340-D that we use for the majority of our non-color pronting needs that duplexes and is also AirPrint enabled.

My only cons with the printer are that it takes up a lot of space and EPS doesn't sell toner cartridges for it.

Thanks!  That is one that I was looking at that Costco sells.  Good to know that you're still using the original toner.  I didn't realize that it didn't do duplexing.

  9. We did it as an elective this year. DH taught it and DS really enjoyed it. I bought a kit out of Canada that was recommended and some old locks. DH and DS have been able to do some neat things including re-keying a new ignition key cylinder for one of the vehicles.

This sounds interesting.  Would you be willing to share more about how your husband taught it and where you got the kit? Thanks!

  10. Mona- Order out of chaos planner looks awesome!

But, since the after-schooo time blocks were based on someone attending school

Till 2pm, were they still able to be used or changed to be used for someone at home?

My dd has during-the-day commitments three times per week

The smaller size planner has the time blocks from 8am-8pm. They have six course blocks and a To Do section as well. We're debating on which size to try!

  11. Farrar, what did you end up getting?

We're in a similar situation.  I'm not sure if it is related to any updates or not, but we have an HP Officejet 8600 plus that has been great for years.  When the original ink cartridges ran out we bought some non-HP ink cartridges that worked fine.  The quality of them wasn't as good, but the price made it worthwhile.  They worked fine for years.  We finally ran out of those and have tried two different off brands and neither will work.  It is hard to justify the cost of the HP cartridges, but I don't want to throw out a perfectly good machine.   :glare:

  12. Has anyone purchased a Speed Queen washer in 2017?

Does anyone know if the new Speed Queen washers were changed with the new regulations?

I would love to hear your experience if you have purchased one in 2017.

    Thanks

I'd be interested in what others have found out about this as well. I was recently looking at one, and the salesman told me that there were regulations passed regarding water usage that would be effective in 2018.
