  1. Wow, I'm so glad they were willing to work with your dd!!! The school district we're working with is not flexible. I asked about not doing the preschool part and just doing speech therapy and they said that wasn't an option. It is a package deal, you either get all of it or none of it :glare:. We were thinking about doing private ST but the waiting list is over a year long and we are PSCing in the next 9 months. We're going to give the preschool a shot and if it doesn't work we'll just pull him out. Thanks for you reply! Marisa
  2. Thank you, thank you Amy for your reply!!! I had no idea how important the IEP goals are and that they are set in stone! The initial meeting to find out if my ds or his twin sister qualified was completely overwhelming. They wanted to go over the IEP's and I was still processing his severe language delays :001_unsure:. We met the teacher yesterday and she said we will be meeting to complete the IEP and go over everything before he starts. My dh and I are going to discuss them this weekend, before he goes out of town, so we make sure we have exactly what we want them to focus on. My ds will be turning 3 two weeks after the class starts so he will also be a little younger. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. Thanks for all the information and sharing your experience with me! Marisa
  3. Thanks for your reply! We have our meeting with the teacher in a couple of weeks and I will ask her how the speech therapy will fit into the class schedule. Would you recommend he be pulled out for it? The language delay is definitely his biggest issue and I think once that improves the other behaviors will follow. I really want to make sure he is getting his full two 30 minute sessions a week, so maybe I will need to put my foot down if it becomes an issue. I wish we could send him to a Montessori school! We only have one in our town and it is very expensive! I also don't know how he would do in a "typical" classroom, he is very independent and a little quirky . Thanks again! Marisa
  4. Hi everyone, Sorry to be posting so much lately, but I don't know where else to turn. We just found out my youngest ds qualified for the school district special education preschool in our community. He qualified with expressive speech, articulation, personal/social and daily living skills delays. The preschool starts the day he turns 3 and is 2 1/2 hours, 5 days a week. During the week he will have 1 hour of specific speech therapy they will pull him out for. The class will have one special ed teacher and two special ed aids for 10 special ed students, and two normally developed peers. Has anyone had a child go through this program? How did it fit in with homeschooling them later on? Did you think it was helpful or worth it? I have a couple of concerns about sending him, the two biggest ones being that I think 2 1/2 hours a day is a lot for a 3 year old. Second I am not sure if he and his twin sister are going to have some separation issues from being away from each other so much. Thanks for any input, this is all so new to me! Marisa
  5. Thanks Katie! We are also looking for any medical reason why he is feeling this way besides the anxiety, though my gut is telling me it is anxiety :-( Marisa
  6. Thanks Rebecca for the suggestion! I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and a few other things so I've been looking for symptoms of those (which can be similar to Lymes). We live in Alaska and don't have ticks, it is too darn cold for them LOL! I hope your daughter starts feeling better soon! Marisa
  7. Thank you Holly for your reply! I also have anxiety and had it as a young child though I am just realizing that is what it was. It is so hard to watch my ds struggle with some of the problems I did at that age, as I am sure it is for you :grouphug:. He was able to meet with his play therapist last week and he seemed to enjoy it. Her and I only had a moment to talk but she said "he had a lot on his mind, and a lot of concerns" and thought the play therapy should help. She also mentioned Prozac when she heard I had anxiety and that it could be hereditary, but said we should give the play therapy a shot first. Has Prozac helped your son? I must say I was shocked when she mentioned it because I never dreamed of putting my child on any type of medication. Now that I have had a while to really think about it I am considering it if the PT doesn't help. I was unschooled as a child so I had very little stress and I was still anxious about everything, I wonder if Prozac would have helped me? I am so glad your son is doing better! Take care and thanks again for sharing your experience! Marisa
  8. I have an almost 5 year old ds who weighs 39 lbs. I just bought the new Britax Frontier 85 SICT for him and it is a beast of a carseat/booster ! For carseat mode the child must be 2+, between 25-85 lbs, and 30-57 inches. For booster mode the child must be between 40-120 lbs, and 42-65 inches tall. I am assuming you've located all of the anchor positions in your car and there aren't two for the 3rd row. If you do decide to get your oldest dd a booster the Frontier 85 SICT if very substantial (though I understand your concerns about a 5 point harness). Good luck! It is always a carseat shuffle when anyone outgrows their current carseat or you add a new little one (or two) to the mix! Marisa
  9. Hi TracyR, Thanks for the idea! He has his check up next month and we will mention it to his Pediatrician. Marisa
  10. Thanks MomofC&A for putting a positive light on the situation! I am sorry it took so long for your daughter to be diagnosed correctly, those must have been some difficult years :-( We have found a really great play therapist that he will start seeing weekly. I hope it will help, and it already makes dealing with him easier since now we know what is going on. Before it was so scary because we didn't know what we were dealing with. Thanks again! Marisa
  11. Thanks Abbeygirlsouth for your reply! We got him into a play therapist yesterday and he will continue to see her weekly for a while. If you don't mind I may PM you, it is hard to find someone in such a similar situation. (((hugs))), Marisa
  12. Hi KarenAnne, Thank you for pointing out the timeline of his realize that "mommy is sick". Sometimes it is good for an outsider to take a look because they can see things from a different angle. We are so caught up in the day to day events that we forget the bigger ones that happen. He probably has a leaning towards anxiety from genetics and I'm sure my health problems, and all of the changes that have occurred the past few years don't help. We were able to get him into a play therapist yesterday and she said he "had a lot on things on his mind" and she thought play therapy could help him. I'm sorry to hear your dd deals with this as well (((hugs))). It is so hard as a parent to watch your children struggle at such a young age. Marisa
  13. Your friend and her baby are in my thoughts!!! I am assuming this was the longest she could safely make it before they needed to do the surgery? Hopefully the baby will do well in the NICU and not have any complications! 32 weeks is early but it is a balancing act between the health of the mother and the health of the baby. What a horrible decision for any mother to have to make :-( I'm sure she appreciates having a good friend to help her during this difficult time! (((Hugs))) Marisa
  14. Hi everyone, I am worried about my 4 1/2 yo son. Since late April/early May he has been going down hill emotionally. He is normally very social, outgoing, easy to get along with, and physically active. All of this has changed :-( Now he gets up in the morning and just plays with his Lego's, he never wants to play outside. Any physical activity he gets is him being out of control and hurting those around him. He seems tired all of the time and carries his little blanket everywhere (his comfort item). It is like a complete personality change! My dh and I thought it was a growth spurt at first, then we thought maybe he was getting sick but it hasn't gone away. We had his iron checked to see if he was anemic, but the labs looked fine. A few days ago we met with a Play Therapist who mentioned he might have anxiety. Does anyone have a child this age with anxiety? It seems so young. I just want my normal little boy back. My heart is breaking for him. Marisa
  15. Thank you Aime and Jennifer for your replies! It was just the right information I needed to make my decision :001_smile:. Thanks ladies! Marisa
  16. Hi, I am looking for a phonics/pre-reading curriculum for my ds 4.5 for the fall. Can someone compare the Phonics Pathways to All About Reading? Also when do you move up to the Reading Pathways and All About Spelling? Thanks from a newbie :-) Marisa
  17. Hi Impish, I learned my lesson after having my first to plan early! I was having a completely normal pregnancy until I went into preterm labor at 25 weeks. I was med-evaced to a city that is a 7 hour drive from our house, I had the clothes on my back and my purse. Luckily they were able to stop the labor but I was on hospital bedrest and was not able to return home for almost 2 months. All of the items I had my dh chose for me when he made a trip home to get our car and clothes. My next pregnancy with my twins I knew I had to plan early since bedrest was most likely :tongue_smilie:. Unfortunately I went on bedrest at 18 weeks before I even knew the sex of the babies. I did a lot of on-line shopping, but I never really got to go to the stores and choose things. But this time I did pack my hospital bag early (22-23 weeks) filled with items I wanted . Marisa
  18. How terribly sad :-( My thoughts are with Adria and her family during this incredibly hard time. Marisa
  19. Sounds like it may be time for a new wardrobe :-) Can you take a stylish friend shopping with you and have her give you an honest opinion? There are lots of pants out there for tall women, you should be able to find something flattering. What body shape do you have? Marisa
  20. Hi from another twin mom :-) It sounds like you sure have your hands full!!! You said your triplets are identical, are they all three identical to each other, or is it a set of identical twins and a 3rd? I don't even know how you do it with such a full house, I struggle with my twins and 1 older child :-)

  21. Hi Denise, If you are only going to be on them for 16 days I highly doubt you are going to have any problems. I am sure though with your mom's history it is scary :grouphug:. I am starting my 8th month on them for an auto immune disease and the long term effects scare me. I have recently had my blood sugar increase from the Prednisone but my Dr told me it was common and would decrease once I weaned off. I haven't gotten the "moon" face yet and hopefully won't :001_smile:. These are the most common side effects from drugs.com: "Difficulty sleeping; feeling of a whirling motion; increased appetite; increased sweating; indigestion; mood changes; nervousness." When I was in college I had took them for a couple of weeks because of an environmental allergic reaction and had no problems. Hope you feel better soon! Marisa Oh, if you are worried about them disrupting your sleep take them first thing in the morning.
  22. Hi Faithe, Yes, I've weaned myself off coffee before :-) Is it the caffeine you want to decrease? If so you'll want to do it slowly so you won't get headaches. If you don't drink that much it shouldn't be a problem. I also did it to see if it helped my Fibro and other conditions, but it didn't seem to help and I desperately needed the caffeine for the energy. All of us Fibro people react so differently to things I definitely think it is worth a shot to see if it helps with your flares! Good luck! Marisa
  23. How exciting!!! Congratulations to you and your family! Marisa
