  1. Dh has an older (by 16 months) sister who lives in another country. They perhaps see each other once a year at their parents' house and that is it. We used to have more to do with her but the relationship is so one-sided and when she didn't congratulate us or even acknowledge it when dd was born I refused to have anything more to do with her.
  2. When I lived in Germany the eggs at the supermarket were never refrigerated and it's common practice to have Easter eggs displayed at the table for several days before eating them.
  3. We love VfCR here. Both my 7th grader and 5th grader can work on it independently. The first day I have them write that week's words on note cards, then they do the excercises for the rest of the week. Every other week there is a review or test. We spend 20. minutes at the very most on each lesson. Don't get the teacher's manual. Like another poster said, the answer key is cheap and perfectly sufficient. Also I think you could probably do two books a year. We only do vocab for half a year. My boys started their book after Christmas and they are almost finished.
  4. Ooh, I like this idea. If it were one or the other though I would go with the flowers because I think it would be more timeless. I have a couple tattoos and both are florals. I've had them for around 20 years and still love them.
  5. When I was still on my parents' insurance I asked my charlatan of a dentist whether I should have them removed as I have a small jaw and I was worried about crowding. He told me it wasn't necessary. They ended up crowding my other teeth and two became infected and had to be removed which I had to pay out of pocket since I was on my own and no longer insured. Grrrr.
  6. No email for me yet, but my fingers are crossed. If someone gets in, will you please pick me for your "friend"?
  7. My boys are 13 and 10 and still like playing with Playmobil. They prefer Lego though as it is more versatile and if I had to choose between Playmobil and Lego I would go with Lego. IMO Playmobil has a lot of small pieces and isn't as robust .
  8. How big of an area do you need to cover? You could get a sheet or a piece of yardage (usually no more than $3.99 at the Goodwills here in Pierce County), cut it to size and use a staple gun to attach.
  9. We've done Levels A and B. The TG isn't necessary, but I would purchase the answer key which is only about $3.
  10. Nah, that's just what Germans will tell you. For the most part it's a pretty logical language. I'm sorry that you can't find Jim Knopf for a good price. We love that book here but only have it in German. I notice your siggy said that your ds is learning Spanish. Book Depository has Jim Knopf in Spanish for not too horrible a price. I don't know if that is an option for you but it might be easier than trying to learn German. :tongue_smilie:
  11. I'm thinking it should be pretty easy. They don't need to go over the 1500 entries and waste a lot of time- they can just go to this thread and pick us. :tongue_smilie:
  12. I agree with everyone else. All you really need is the answer key which is fantastic because it is only a few bucks vs. the pricey teacher's guide.
  13. "Tom's Midnight Garden" by Philippa Pearce.
  14. A WEEK?!? It's going to be hard keeping my fingers crossed for that amount of time. ;)
  15. Math: TT Pre-Algebra History: History Odyssey Level 2 Early Modern Grammar: Analytical Grammar Lit: Lightning Lit 7 Vocabulary: Vocabulary from Classical Roots Science: Galore Park SYRWTL Book 2
  16. You don't have to finish the series by 5th grade and you can definitely beef it up to add more challenges for a logic age student. I would personally start with Book 1 as I feel it important to study history chronologically. My middle ds didn't start SOTW until 3rd grade. He is in 5th now and we are doing Book 3 this year. He still really enjoys it. We've supplemented with ideas from the activity guide- maps, additional reading, etc.
  17. This has been our experience as well. Dh is German and spends the majority of the year working in Germany and the UK. I've been positively surprised at the reactions to homeschooling from Germans. When we lived there there were several people who were quite critical of the fact that we didn't send ds1 to Kindergarten but no one has criticized homeschooling at all and have acted genuinely interested.
  18. If you have a KA mixer there is an ice cream making attachment.
  19. Our Target has individually packaged white tights but they were a little hard to find. I buy my dd's (3) underwear and socks in the girl's department but their tights all started at size 6. I finally found tights for her size in the baby department with baby socks and onesies.
