Apologies as I can't multiquote.
A lot of the responses for K12 were for states other than AZ. Beth in AZ gave a great way to check out the curriculum.
Our homeschool group was very excited about Apologia last year and I was wondering if in AZ Apologia was the science curriculum used. This year it's like they abandoned Apologia and are using K12 and are reluctant to let anyone into their impromptu science group because we don't use K12's science program (which might be fantastic, but without looking at it, I'm not going to switch).
The logging in hours, especially filling in hours that they finish early is a negative for me. 6-8 hours a day??!! I'd have a mutiny on my hands.
The final concern I have is testing. We have relatives and friends that teach in public school and the entire day is spent trying to get those test scores up. Many kids stay after school to reach that goal. I don't want to be driving all over the Phoenix metro area to find a test spot for a kid who doesn't learn like a public school child does--for the test. I'm beginning to think that even though K12 is free, for us, it just isn't a good fit.

[[in Tx you are required to log 6-8 hours a day. But each class is assigned a certain amount of time. Like spanish takes my 8 and 10 year old 15 minutes to do a lesson but each lesson they get to log 60 minutes.]]
[[Another draw back is the state testing. We are going to be having to drive an hour one way in busy Dallas rush hour traffic for testing. Each of my kids have to go two to three days in a row over the next 3 month. :glare: I really don't care if my kids take these tests but I wasn't told I was going to have to drive so far and that they all wouldn't be testing on the same day. One mom said she has to drive over 92 miles one way, spend over $200 in gas money and get a hotel room for two nights just so her kid can take these tests.]]
