  1. The United States link is: http://musicdevelopmentprogram.org/ You can search for teachers that use RCM materials or are RCM certified on this webpage. If in Canada, the link wintermom gave will link you to teachers in your area in Canada.
  2. Pregnant at 34, delivered healthy baby one month before my 35th birthday. No one in my OB office acted as like it was high-risk. I was offered an amnio (which I refused), did take the triple screen and was monitored as if I were 24. (One ultrasound at 22 weeks and regular check ups). Definitely time time for a new OB. What kind of doctor scares their patients??? ((Hugs)) to your friend. I hope she finds an OB that makes this the happy experience it should be. Karen
  3. Yes. Did not feel guilty or weird about it either :) Karen
  4. I have no discs in my 2 lower vertebrae, and I successfully carried an infant up to 2 years 35 lbs-ish with the New Native carrier. It balanced the weight of the baby and I didn't have back pain when I used it, even when he was older/heavier and it was used as a hip carrier. Karen
  5. Apologies as I can't multiquote. A lot of the responses for K12 were for states other than AZ. Beth in AZ gave a great way to check out the curriculum. Our homeschool group was very excited about Apologia last year and I was wondering if in AZ Apologia was the science curriculum used. This year it's like they abandoned Apologia and are using K12 and are reluctant to let anyone into their impromptu science group because we don't use K12's science program (which might be fantastic, but without looking at it, I'm not going to switch). The logging in hours, especially filling in hours that they finish early is a negative for me. 6-8 hours a day??!! I'd have a mutiny on my hands. The final concern I have is testing. We have relatives and friends that teach in public school and the entire day is spent trying to get those test scores up. Many kids stay after school to reach that goal. I don't want to be driving all over the Phoenix metro area to find a test spot for a kid who doesn't learn like a public school child does--for the test. I'm beginning to think that even though K12 is free, for us, it just isn't a good fit. Karen [[in Tx you are required to log 6-8 hours a day. But each class is assigned a certain amount of time. Like spanish takes my 8 and 10 year old 15 minutes to do a lesson but each lesson they get to log 60 minutes.]] [[Another draw back is the state testing. We are going to be having to drive an hour one way in busy Dallas rush hour traffic for testing. Each of my kids have to go two to three days in a row over the next 3 month. :glare: I really don't care if my kids take these tests but I wasn't told I was going to have to drive so far and that they all wouldn't be testing on the same day. One mom said she has to drive over 92 miles one way, spend over $200 in gas money and get a hotel room for two nights just so her kid can take these tests.]]
  6. I had to choose other as the poll wouldn't let me pick multiple programs. We (DS8) use a mixture of Singapore Challenging Word Problems and Singapore Math Standards Ed., Math Mammoth for concepts he gets "stuck on", Zaccaro Primary Math, and Life of Fred for fun. I also have the DVDs/Teacher Manuals for MUS in case something I've explained 15 different ways results in a look of mass confusion. Decimal Street really helped him understand the place values of numbers when he was 5. Karen
  7. This is the one I bought and I absolutely *love* it! My stove has a low overhead/microwave and this one fits. The larger models will not. It never needs gasket replacements. After you add the weight to the steam let-off, you can tell by ear (after much practice) just how far to turn the burner so that it jiggles 4 times a minute and you don't have to stand there and watch the temperature (although I did for quite a while). It's very easy to use and if I didn't have limited overhead stove space, I'd buy the 14 quart one. Karen
  8. In Illinois, if you were a member of a union in good standing and unemployed, you did not have to accept a job you were qualified for if it paid less than the previous job you held. I imagine many other states hold these same rules. Karen
  9. Yes! My husband is an educator also, and every year we ended up with a minimum of 10 Christmas-themed mugs. We use all of the mugs, winter or not. Several are so large they can hold an entire can of Progresso soup. We too, get odd looks (off season) when we serve coffee or hot drinks in these mugs. Our mug collection takes up an entire cabinet that is larger than the one we use for regular drinking glasses. Karen
  10. I have a very pear-shaped body and have found the JC Penney A.N.A brand of pants and skirts to fit over my hips without giving me the lovely muffin top at the waist. I have not had the same luck with that brand in jackets. If I need a suit, I buy the jacket in a size that will go over the hips and that matches the pants and either alter it, or just go with the football shoulder look until it can be altered. Karen
  11. Two spaces when typing on a computer. One space when texting (and cringe while doing so, as I learned the two spaces after a period rule) only because it eats up a space on the number of characters you can post in one text. Karen
  12. I purchased one from http://www.raggedsoldier.com/schoolsupplies.html They make reproduction Civil War era toys/books. I purchased the larger one to use with my son at reenactments. Karen
