  1. My response in a similar situation: “Oh, thank you so much for thinking of me. But I’m afraid it’s just not possible.”
  2. Sorry about your online order! How frustrating! We are about as prepared as we’re going to be. Kid is at college (in town) to ride out the storm with his friends. We’ll make some hard boiled eggs to have if power goes out. We have lots of fleece blankets and four cats and flashlights. We’re supposed to get up to a foot of snow ❄️ and maybe a bit of ice. We’re hunkering down until everything melts…
  3. 20 years ago, I was working part time as a bookkeeper. My predecessor had died from esophageal cancer. One of our clients called asking for her. I said, “I’m sorry. She’s dead right now. May I take a message?” Silence on the other end. Dead silence.
  4. For stress: Yoga type breathing. Count items in the room. Count items of same color. Microwave a wet washcloth for 20-30 seconds and put over your face. Watch a sitcom to distract yourself (I Love Lucy, Gilligan’s Island, etc). Take a bath or shower. Hug someone.
  5. Right there with you. My older sister died suddenly last week and we just put up some lights tonight. Still trying to make it Christmassy for our college freshman. Watching White Christmas at the moment..: May we all find lovely moments this weekend. Hugs to all struggling.
  6. Oh no! I have PPMS so we too have been super careful. I would be livid too. I guess I’d be wearing a mask around them and have your husband sleep in the dog house. I mean, on the couch. So sorry.
  7. I haven’t thought of Alice’s Restaurant in years! Thanks! We watch White Christmas 🎄 over Thanksgiving weekend.
  8. Local grocery: lots of empty spaces in the dairy, paper goods, and pet food aisles. Tuesday evening in NC.
  9. Is this about China? I have a friend who is doing ESL with China.
  10. We’re stocking up, keeping in mind weather (we’re up a mountain, 10 miles from our small town), the pandemic, inflation, supply change disruptions, and the effect climate change is having on agriculture. I’m in the process of inventorying what we have and figuring out what we still need. Strange times these are….
  11. I didn’t like it as much as their recycled kind. But give it a try. We love that company. Don’t get the paper towels though; they aren’t very absorbent. Don’t know about the Kleenex. We get the Willow brand of Kleenex at Aldi’s.
  12. Do not give up masks. Follow the advice of the CDC and your local Department of Public Health.
  13. We have a jazz drummer. We have rules - a set time when drumming can take place: between 10 am and 8 pm and/or after school work was done. And no drumming before parents are adequately caffeinated. DS lives in the dorm of our local college, so there is a lot less drumming happening here. And, yeah, what were you thinking?! 😀
  14. Netflix: last season of Grace and Frankie, Atypical, The Chair, Virgin River
  15. I ate lunch by myself in junior high. In a stall, in the bathroom… totally painful memory. I think the club idea is excellent.
  16. It’s just that good. I’d look through the book again, but DS took it to college.
  17. The book _Changing Bodies, Changing Lives_. Worked well with our Questioning (the Q in LGBTQ) kid. He called it his “Teenager Book.” His copy is quite dog-eared and leaves no doubt that he read it cover-to-cover, probably more than once.
  18. Wait. Coffee shortage? I think I missed that report. Say it’s not so!
  19. We’ve noticed sparse shelves in the pet aisle - cat food and litter. Also - Amazon has been out of stock on a number of items.
  20. Yes, we’re dealing with the same thing in our house. Our kid changes pronouns on a weekly basis. Kid also hasn’t figured out sexual orientation. Kid heads off to college next week.
  21. Use hand sanitizer a lot (especially on train)
  22. Definitely DuoLingo. There is plenty of grammar in the tips section of DuoLingo. I also use a conjugation app (ConjuGato). Also, Busuu app.
  23. Yes, this is one resource we have used as well.
  24. I agree with the Practice Makes Perfect books. There are also a plethora of Spanish apps.
