  1. We will be finishing LL BB1 by March. It has taken us 1 1/2 years. My ds is having a hard time with retention in these last few lessons. I am going to reprint lessons 8 - 16 and have my ds do them again without any of the history. We will try to be better about doing daily memorization with the flashcards. I also have GSWL which we did a couple of years ago. I'm thinking of adding this back in as well. This plan, I think, will have my ds ready for LL BB2 sometime this fall.
  2. My ds10 is currently doing Veritas Press Tom Sawyer lit guide. He does 1-2 chapters per day. It will take a total of about 6 weeks. I plan on having him complete just one VP lit guide per year because it is a lot of writing. The rest of the year we do discussion based literature including MCT or we do written narrations. I can't image having him write the answers to all the questions when he was 7. He just didn't have the stamina yet to write that much. When my younger ds is ready, I will just do the questions orally or just do oral narrations.
  3. Has anyone found or created any online practice quizzes/games for the new Classical Edition? I realized today that the word list doesn't match the older version of Caesar's English. I just might have to create some myself, if there are none. My ds needs a little more practice than just reading through the book. Thanks.
  4. We have been doing only 1 part of a lesson per day, with only 1 day of science per week. We did this with vol 1 and currently with vol 2. We are on track to finish vol 2 this year and will start vol 3 for 6th. Younger ds will start vol 1 soon, so older ds will get a nice review of everything. BFSU has been great for us!
  5. I placed an order last week and received an order confirmation email and then another email once they shipped that included a tracking number.
  6. Thanks for the replies. I'm going to be implementing fewer and shorter breaks this year. It's nice to hear how other families do it.
  7. For logic stage, how many breaks do your dc get? And how long for each break? Are you finished by noon? Thanks,
  8. My ds will be in 5th grade this year. He just started a couple of weeks ago the 4th grade HWOT cursive book. He just does 1 page 4 X per week. He'll finish by the end of the year and start the 5th grade book. This past year we just used a lap white board and learned to form each lowercase letter. Then I just made up fun short sentences for him to copy on the white board. We didn't do it reguarly. It was enough practice though that I'm pretty impressed with his output so far in HWOT.
  9. LA: narration/dictation across the curriculum Bravewriter Partnership Writing monthly projects and MCT - Complete Town Level Literature: I made a list of 1 book with a guide per month. I plan on using the literature guides very lightly, mainly using some of them for just good discussion topics. July - Magician’s Nephew - Roar Guide August - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - Roar Guide September - The Horse and His Boy - Roar Guide October - Prince Caspian - Roar Guide November - Adventures of Tom Sawyer Veritas Press Guide December - Hobbit - Veritas Press Guide January - The Twenty-One Balloons - Veritas Press Guide February - Alice in Wonderland - MCT Guide March - Peter Pan - MCT Guide April - Wind in the Willows - MCT Guide May - use as a catch up month Also if we finish any books in less than a month we might choose a book and lesson from the Ready Readers pdf that I purchased last year. Once a week or maybe even once every other week use Figuratively Speaking Our LA looks like a lot but it doesn’t really end up being too much. Ds completed the first 1/2 of Killgallon Story Grammar last year. He’ll finish this unless we need to cut something. Latin: Lively Latin BB1 - for 4th grade he took the year to complete the first 1/2 so he will finish last 1/2 for 5th Math: MM5 Science: Finish BFSU book 2, we are currently doing Tops science electricity over the summer and it’s been great, so we’ll add a couple more for the school year Typing/Computer tech: Typing Instructor for kids, Scratch, Lego Mindstorms History/Geography: SOTW 3 with maps/coloring pages/go along books from activity guide. Our library has the Drama of American History books. There are about 9 books that he’ll read that correspond with the time frame of SOTW 3. Other supplemental reading from different lists; Sonlight, Veritas Press, Truthquest, etc. We live in Texas and Texas history is towards the end of SOTW 3, so we will do a Texas study next summer. Trail Guide to US geography Logic: Logic Liftoff and Orbiting with Logic Bible: Telling God’s Story
  10. I would like to know as well. I was thinking of purchasing some for my rising 5th grader for this summer.
  11. Those that use the Latin Book One, what do you plan on using after completing it? Will you go on to the second one? Or something else? Thanks.
  12. Murrayshire - Your schedule for your DD sounds lovely. I may have to try it for my son as he loves history also. DS is using SOTW 2 this year. He isn't middle school age yet, but we do plan to add in outlining next year. And I spend quite a bit of time researching and reserving go along books from our library. I'll have him dig a little deeper and research and write about topics that interest him as we go through SOTW vol 3 & 4 over the next 2 years.
  13. I know of this list. http://simplycharlottemason.com/timesavers/narration/
  14. My older ds has been happy and thrived with classical education for the past 2 years. He enjoys learning Latin and history and narrations. I have a feeling that my younger ds will enjoy and thrive more with a CM style education. Just curious if anyone uses different teaching styles for each of your dc. Does anyone teach Latin to one dc and not the other? My boys are just so different that it looks I might go in a different route with my younger.
  15. DS used WWW3 and GWG3 last year for a few months and then we threw them in the trash. I can see how they would work ok for others but they were not the right fit for my ds who likes to be challenged a little more than WWW and GWG provides. DS was getting 100% on everything in GWG but when I would ask him to pick out the different parts of speech in literature, he had a hard time. So we switched to KISS for just a few weeks but the program was just too confusing for me so we ditched that. Finally, I purchased MCT island level and we couldn't be happier. It is the perfect program for my LA loving ds. Every piece of the curriculum is engaging and challenging. It makes LA come alive for ds.
  16. We started end of August. We do 1 chapter a week. If it's a short chapter, we'll double up chapters that week.
  17. I wanted to add that I have a younger son and he will be start K this fall. I do not plan on using BFSU 1 with him until he is in 1st. I just am very laid back for K and don't really like using many formal curriculum for K. My older ds will be 11 then and will enjoy listening in on BFSU 1 lessons with little younger son and will get a nice review. Then he'll get a nice review of BFSU 2 when younger son starts that in a few years. And the same with volume 3.
  18. We did BFSU 1 for 1st and 2nd grade. We were able to get all the lessons in within those 2 years. We did some lessons during the summer also. Looking back, i probably rushed through it too fast. If I could do it again, I would go slower and spread it out and take 3 years. My ds would not have been ready for the lessons in K though. So we would have completed to 1st book in 3rd.
  19. We have really enjoyed and learned a lot using SOTW. This is our second year using the text with the activity book. We only use the activity book for the narration questions, book recommendations, maps and coloring pages. We don't do any if the activities listed.
  20. We love BFSU! I don't find it takes long to prepare for. I think we might go a little slow with it though. But the slower pace works for us. We only do science 1 day a week. We do 1 lesson per month. Each lesson is broken into 4 - 6 parts. We do 1 or 2 parts per week. We completed the k-2nd grade book and started the 3rd -5th grade book last year. If we do 1 lesson per month (we do summer school), we will complete when ds9 finishes 5th grade. We will then start the 6th-8th grade book. After we read a part of the lesson and do any demonstrations, my son will go to the computer and open his running list of things he learned or interesting facts and add more to it. So each month he has a fact sheet he created for the lesson. Every once in a while I might find worksheets that go along with the lesson. We also do nature study 1 day a week.
