  1. I saw a thread about this but now I cant find it. What readers do you use with PR1? The stories that came with PR1 are too easy for him so I'm looking for new ones. Thank you Lisa
  2. Thank you all for your input. I'm going to try out PR and see how it goes. I like it especially the dvd's. I need all the help I can get and even though it is tough to find the time to review them they are helpful. MY son doesn't like "songs" to much so we will see how the rule tunes work out. My fear with AAS tiles is he will use them as battle toys while I teach instead of what they are meant for. Between the two I'm going to try and find a happy spot!
  3. I know there have been many threads comparing these I couldn't find one that would help me decide. I bought them both because I didn't know which one would fit my son. He is 7 and knows all his individual sounds and can read but needs to move on to the next level we never used an official phonics program. He is very hyper and has very short attention span. He needs a lot of review. After looking at PR I'm not sure if I should use this. Does anybody have any thoughts or experience with a child that has short attention?? We are also using FLL and WWE which we love! If I use PR I wouldn't need to use FLL and WWE. I was thinking of using both AAS and PR but not sure how I would do this. Do any of you do this and if so how? Thank you!
  4. Ds7 is exactly the same I 'm listening too!
  5. With my math package I received cards and other items that are used for some of the games in the lesson plans so would it be safe to just purchase the math game book? I looked at the "game kit" and it looks like almost everything came with my kit except the "math game book" In another thread I read if you have/started in B you wouldn't need the game book because all the games are in that manual. That is why I didn't buy it originally. What about the al abacus activities and worksheets has anybody used these?
  6. Hi there We have RS B and are working very slowly. I ordered a kit but it didn't have the games book. While looking at their site I noticed they have the games book, activities for abacus and worksheets for the abacus. Are these items necessary if I have B?
  7. We just starting using sotw this year and I would be interested in knowing other readers favorites as well. :bigear:
  8. We only read two pages or even one page a day and we take turns, that is still draining him and me. I guess I should have not said I didn't like it- it just is not working for us anymore. I didn't throw it out yet I still use it just pick and chose what lessons for him to do in the two workbooks and take it real slow. It may work later I feel like I need to go over some more ground work with him first which is why it is probably to hard for him. I will pick it up again once I do some more basics with him and he matures a little. I havn't looked at the K yet so that may be what we were missing thats how I feel right now like I/we are missing something. I hope it works for you!
  9. AprilMay- I havn't seen the k ones but for 1st I like the readers- the stories are fun and at first my son liked them but at about half way thru (the set)they started to get too hard and tooo long for him. The workbooks are too hard for him and he needs more repetition. For us they seem to jump right into areas that were too advanced and it would not spend enough time on it. Now mabey if we started with the k's we may have had a different experience.
  10. He "would" be in second but MJ is not ready/mature enough to sit for 2nd grade work and that is what has has me worried . But after reading your post I'm realizing that he doesnt HAVE to do 2nd grade work I'll need to adjust my expectations that's why I homeschool!
  11. Hi everybody I'm very new to posting here been lurking for about 2 years. Little history before I ask your suggestions. We have been homeschooling my 6 1/2 yo ds for 2 years he will be in 2nd grade next year last year we used playful pals and SIPPS readers and he reads fairly well I'm comfortable with his reading ability but this year we used McRuffy Press First Grade SE Phonics and Reading. He was going to a class 2 days a week for 3 hrs with other hs'ers up until about a 2 months ago. So most curriculum was suggested by teacher. The McRuffy readers are just toooo long for him. He does good for the first half then has a melt down! The work books are too hard for him and I'm not happy with them. We also use Explode the code which he enjoys-well at least he doesnt complain! For math we have been usind California Math- Macmillan McGran-Hill and Marshall Education 1a and 1b- Not doing too well with these. He is very active and easily distracted everything is a toy, pencil, paper and manipulatives. He doesnt seem to catch on too quickly and needs lots of repetition. Do have any suggestions on a phonics program and math for an active 6 yo?? Thank You
