  1. I finished reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Kondo and posted a long review on my blog and Goodreads. I think my favorite part was her folding method. My first attempts didn't quite work, but I found which was extremely helpful. Then I decluttered three drawers so I could put it to practice, and now all three now have an amazing amount of room. I like being able to see all of the contents at a glance. Next up for nonfiction is The Obesity Code which I have until the 8th.
  2. With two birthdays this week for the girls, I only finished the one Agatha Christie book The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, which is my 29th book so far this year. Long term reads 📚ESV Bible - read most of First Samuel this week 📚The History of the Ancient World - I finished three chapters again this week (24-26) covering Crete, the end of the Happarans, and the Hittites 📚From the Beast to the Blond - I think I'm a little ahead. This week I read the first two chapters relating to the Queen of Sheba Currently reading 📚The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up - I was looking on Overdrive and realized this book was both on my wish list and available, so I decided to read it for my nonfiction selection this week. 📚The Hidden Oracle - I didn't find any time for my audio book last week, so I'll try again this week. 📚The Invisible Library - I made a little progress this week, but has troubled concentrating. 📚The Mystery on the Blue Train - Normally I try to read series in order, but since I wanted to read this one for the gemstone challenge I will move it up the stack for this week. I will of course toss all of these aside if either the new Bishop book or the new Briggs book becomes available. I'm still first on both hold lists. I've decided at least one of the librarians must have decided the books needed to be preread before leaving processing.😜 (Sigh... Still waiting albeit not very patiently. Another week and I may start planning a rescue mission for them.😹)
  3. I decided to take another afternoon off with Christie's Hercules Poirot and finished The Murder of Roger Ackroyd for my 29th book. I'm always both dismayed and delighted when the ending comes as a complete surprise.🙊😸
  4. I can't guess any of the quotes so far. Here's my closest book: "I can't keep it secret."
  5. momto2 :grouphug: aggieamy - Thanks for being in charge👮 I haven't finished anything new in the past couple of days, so my book count for last week stands at two. Finished This Week (reviews linked) - Books 27-28 27. Naked in Death by Robb 28. Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain by Ratey Long term reads: ~ESV Bible - read the remainder of Judges, all of Ruth, and began First Samuel ~History of the Ancient World - finished chapters 21-23 ~From the Beast to the Blonde by Warner - I read the two chapters related to the Sibyls this week (5-6). To be honest, I'm not finding the current chapters very interesting. She seems to be making a lot of assumptions based on art. I guess it's just not what I expect of a history of fairy tale. Maybe it will make more sense once I get to the second section on individual stories. (I will attempt to persevere for 6 more chapters.) Current reads (always subject to change on a whim) Audiobook: The Hidden Oracle by Riordan - I haven't done very well at finding time for audio books the past couple of weeks. I'm planning to make more of an effort to find time to listen this week. Fiction: The Invisible Library by Cogman - Slowly making progress on this. Currently just over halfway. Nonfiction: The Obesity Code by Fung - Originally I had planned to read Gaiman's Norse Mythology but was unable to renew. Since this book also has a waiting list, I decided to move it up the queue for this week.
  6. I finally finished Spark: The Revolutionary Science of Exercise and the Brain by Terry and posted a review. Next up on the nonfiction front is Gaiman's Norse Mythology.
  7. I finished and enjoyed reading Naked in Death for the first time. I'm still working on The Invisible Library and am currently almost halfway through.
  8. Enjoy your time off Robin! Thanks for filling in Any and Jane. I started The Invisible Library this week as well. Hope the antibiotics work, and you feel better soon. :grouphug:
  9. Finished This Week (reviews linked) - Books 24-26 Odd Thomas by Koontz - I was glad I had a box of tissues handy by the end of the book. 4 stars The Hammer of Thor by Riordan - It was fun to see Magnus tackle another adventure after having some training under his belt. 4 stars Marked in Flesh by Bishop - My final Others reread, 5 stars. Long term reads: ESV Bible - finished Joshua and began Judges History of the Ancient World - finished chapters 19 and 20 From the Beast to the Blonde by Warner - I went ahead and read three chapters this week (#2-4) since they were all related to gossips. Current reads (always subject to change on a whim) - Audiobook: The Hidden Oracle by Riordan - I didn't get to start last week with my parents visiting, but will definitely work on it this coming week. Fiction books: The Invisible Library by Cogman - This has been on my list for about a month now, and I finally started reading it on Saturday. I'm only a few chapters into the book, but so far it seems promising. Naked in Death by Robb - I haven't read this series before, but I'm looking forward to giving it a try now that I finally got a copy from Overdrive. Etched in Bone by Bishop - OK, it's still listed as in processing, but I have high hopes of actually getting my hands on the book to read at some point this week. Nonfiction book: Spark: the revolutionary new science of exercise and the brain by Ratey - Still slowly making progress. Hopefully, I'll finish this one up by midweek.
  10. I finished Riordan's The Hammer of Thor while impatiently rechecking the status of the latest Anne Bishop book at my library. How many days does it take to slap on a barcode and enter it into the system? Apparently more than five...:toetap05: (and the new Mercy Thompson book is still listed as on order) Off to read the fourth Others book while waiting...
  11. I finished up Odd Thomas by Koontz last night before my time ran out from Overdrive. I needed some tissues for the ending, but overall it was an interesting read.
  12. Another three book week with two new books and one reread completed. Finished This Week (reviews linked) - Books 20-22 I Am Half-Sick of Shadows by Bradley - My favorite Flavia book so far and an excellent series for audiobook format. Blood of Olympus by Riordan - My daughter has been after me to finish the "Heroes of Olympus" series, and I'm glad I did. Quite enjoyable although I still like the original Percy Jackson series more. Vision in Silver by Bishop - Only two days left until the new book is out. I finished the reread of the third book and have the fourth ready to start. Long term reads: ESV Bible - finished Deuteronomy and over halfway through Joshua History of the Ancient World - finished chapters 17 and 18 this week, which also brings me to the end of the second of five sections! From the Beast to the Blonde by Warner - I read the introduction and chapter one this week Current reads (always subject to change on a whim) - Audiobook: The Hidden Oracle by Riordan Fiction books: Odd Thomas by Koontz - This is my ebook for the week. I don't remember who recommended it, but it's off to a good start. The Hammer of Thor by Riordan - Doubling up on Riordan was not intentional. I just realized that I have to return this on Saturday, so it got moved to the top of the pile. Marked in Flesh by Bishop - last reread before the new book, which my library already has listed as in processing. Hopefully, I'll get more reading time since my parents will be visiting for a few days so the kids will be off from school. Nonfiction book: Spark: the revolutionary new science of exercise and the brain by Ratey - This is slower reading than the other nonfiction books I've read this year. I have a good overall grasp of the parts of the brain and their basic function, but all the biochemistry :ack2: . Still it's interesting and informative, but definitely something that takes an alert brain to process Finished for the year 22. Vision in Silver by Bishop 21. 13. I spent the afternoon reading and finished Blood of Olympus by Riordan. I'm glad I finally decided to finish the series. Now I can listen to the first book in Riordan's Apollo series, The Hidden Oracle, and be caught up with my kids. In paperback I have Vision in Silver sitting on my bedside table for fiction to start on tomorrow.
  14. Finished up my latest audiobook I Am Half-Sick of Shadows by Bradley, aka the fifth Flavia mystery. Not sure what I'll listen to next. I also started reading The Blood of Olympus at the urging of my kids. I really don't like the books where Percy isn't telling part of the story as well. Still at halfway through, it is better than I was expecting based on some of the reviews.
  15. Finished reading my 20th book The Purple Pterodactyls: The Adventures of W. Wilson Newbury by de Camp for my February gemstone challenge. It was a decent collection of supernatural short stories.

I'm not sure what I'll pick up the week. Nonfiction book: Spark: the revolutionary new science of exercise and the brain by Ratey - This has been waiting patiently in my nonfiction to read stack for a few weeks since I picked it up based on recommendations from this board. 17. Took part of the afternoon to read The Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie and posted a review. Now I need to focus on finished my current nonfiction and my gemstone book.
  18. The Overdrive books I've borrowed on my Kindle Fire are deleted when I return them. Books can be placed on multiple shelves. You could make a shelf called series and add the first books to that shelf. Actually I think I'll go do that as well.u
  19. It's on my wish list as well. I have too many physical and virtual books in my current to read stack including two other nonfiction books that are ahead of it in line. Thanks for the map link. I bookmarked it. I like that the closer two names are together the more people enjoy books from both author. I've tried using Amazon recommendations for other authors with only mixed success.
  20. I finished reading and reviewing my 17th book, The Color of Magic by Pratchett. Thanks to all who kept mentioning the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm counting it as my selected by a friend bingo square.
  21. I did more reading than housework this week and watched almost no tv, so I made it through four books. :D Finished This Week (reviews linked) - Books 13-16 The Graveyard Book by Gaiman - not what I expected, but still quite enjoyable. 4 stars for my 3rd audiobook The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Christie - I'm not sure why I haven't picked up any Agatha Christie books to read since high school. I know I will enjoy the story and that I don't have to worry about the youngest listening in if the mood strikes him. Fiction books: The Color of Magic by Pratchett - After seeing many recommendations for the Discworld series, I finally checked out the first book from Overdrive as an ebook. I'm currently just over 1/4 of the way through (an excellent way to pass time while awaiting the new Book a Week thread :tongue_smilie: ). The Purple Pterodactyls: The Adventures of W. Wilson Newbury by de Camp - I was looking for a book with purple in the title for the gemstone challenge and the title of this one intrigued me. Nonfiction book: Getting Things Done by Allen - I'm a little more than halfway through this reread and hope to finish the book this week. Finished for the year 16. The Graveyard Book by Gaiman 15. The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Christie (Bingo: mystery) 14. Slathbog's Gold by Forman 13. Murder of Crows by Bishop 12. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Covey 11. The Strange Library by Murakami 1. Written in Red by Bishop
  22. I downloaded The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie from Overdrive and finished reading it this afternoon. A delightful way to pass the afternoon and finish my 15th book of the year.
  23. I think my older ds might enjoy this. Thanks. 🙌
  24. I finished book 14 Slathbog's Gold last night and reviewed it. Despite the fact that it's taken me a while to finish, I really did enjoy the book and will continue the series as time allows. Not sure what I'll start next.
  25. Finished my 13th book of the year, a reread of Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop. Two more Others books to read before the new release next month. It's fun to visit the Lakeside Courtyard again.
