  1. I am looking for a math curriculum that will allow my ds to work more independently, as well as it be more conceptual; for example, instead of a + b = c, it's more this is why a + b = c. Do one of these fit that objective, b/c I like the look of both, but have tried neither. Thanks for help. Catherine
  2. Thanks Hillfarm for a look into the future :001_huh:. That is my son. A strong passion for (whatever), and then burnout. I think that is what is going on here. Thanks to all who responded :001_smile:
  3. My 12 yr old ds may be developing a bad habit. If it's too much effort, or takes to much time, he doesn't want to continue. Case in points: Saxophone for 2 years - quit; football for 3 years - quit; guitar for 1 year - quit, now he's been in the boy scouts for 1 1/2 years and he wants to, you guessed it, quit. My sister seems to think that kids these days don't want to continue with anything if some effort is involved. I guess I'm wondering if I need to be a little tougher and not allow him to quit. But then on the flip side, I want him to try new things knowing that it is up to him to continue. How do you handle similar situations?
  4. A little background. This is my first year homeschooling my 6th grader. He was in the G&T program in grades 1st - 5th. We are doing Chalkdust pre-algebra. We are on chapter 8, and in the previous chapters, he has gotten around 80-85% correct on the tests. I've read that Chalkdust Algebra book has smaller print, tons of problems and moves at a fairly quick pace and that it was written as a college level book and is intended for the high schooler. So I am considering CLE 800 for him next year, the go back to Chalkdust alg. in the following year. Is CLE a program that ds can do on his own? Does it have good explanations for the student and solutions to the problems (for me :001_smile:)? I don't want to stress ds out with Chalkdust alg. if is not ready for it, and considering the price of Chalkdust, I want to as certain of my choice as I can get. Any help for a newbie:confused:
  5. Or both? This is my 2nd year homeschooling and I can't decide what to do for my ds 9 and 12. I like the look of both, but MCT doesn't really have a literature component aside from poetry. Has any one supplemented MCT with Mosdos, or would that be overkill? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. By the way I have 3 ds (7, 9, 12) and it's my first year with my 12 year old.
