  1. I just downloaded a few books yesterday, one of them being this. I usually click on the pdf link on the upper right-hand corner. Are you downloading from a computer or the iPad? Sorry, I should have included a quote to see your specific problem with downloading. With which book are you having this problem?
  2. The guide is cheap! Is this guide for all the books assigned to this level?
  3. This link has the entire series for downloading, but Project Gutenberg only has 22 of the biographies. I happened to download it from Kindle. However, for famous Romans, the author only covers 5 men.
  4. Thank you both for responding. The sample online seemed easy to understand but that was just a short clip. Thanks for helping me save some money :D. I actually found an audiobook on librivox.org that is more suited for a young child. It's not exactly biology but it does talk about insects (The Insect Folk by Margaret Warner) and I'm planning to read aloud the sequel to that since it's not on librivox yet.
  5. Wow, those thrift stores don't know the value of what they have on their shelves:D! We're not on Voyage yet, but I do have the whole series, and did not buy any student workbooks since the teacher's manual is all that is required. You could cover up the answers or write the questions on a separate piece of paper.
  6. I'm looking more towards next year, which means we will have finished AAS 1-6, WWE2, and FLL3 and other grammar programs. We may add in CLE 3 Reading and try to finish it, but most of the writing will probably have to be in the form of narrations with me writing it down for her. DD is not just at the stage where she can write a lot but maybe by next year as I add in more copywork this year, she can get used to writing. We haven't had any other writing except for WWE1 and a daily 1-sentence copywork from Graded Studies in Great Authors or from a history/science lesson. I'm hoping to skip the major phonics portion of PR (1 and 2?) since DD is a strong reader and I don't care to spend a portion of the cost on that area. So, do you think I should add in more writing between now and next year (WWE3 or another program?) in preparation for PR3? And, what kind of writing foundation is required before starting PR3?
  7. If we finish AAS1-6, does anyone happen to know at what PR level we should begin? You all are starting to move me and I want to look into PR more seriously.
  8. It's not just you; since the weekend, I've wondered and clicked on instant notification in the user panel a few times per day and was thinking I must not be doing something right.
  9. I'm still navigating through the site and it looks like instructions are separated by lessons (for example), but they are not in a friendly format for printing. The author also uses Maxwell's Introductory Lessons, which I happen to have printed out a couple of weeks ago after the vintage thread popped up again. So, I could use that as a teaching guide (because I really need one to teach) and then use these exercises. Maybe KISS is better suited for a parent who is strong in grammar?
  10. This link has the MS Word link for the entire workbook.
  11. Thank you. The instructions seem sparse for the student. For example for Gr.2, Level 1 workbook, page 8, the instructions are as follows: Lesson: A sentence is based on a subject and verb. The subject is one or more words that name what the sentence is about. The verb makes a statement about the subject. It may state what the subject does, or what it is. (Note that “is,” “are,” “am,” “was,” and “were” are always verbs. Always underline them twice.) I must be missing something here. What happened to identifying nouns and verbs first before identifying subjects and predicates? Or even definitions of parts of speech? The Masterbook, Level 1 has more instructions since it's for self-teaching, but it seems to be assuming some prior grammar experience.
  12. Ok, I may have answered my own question. The answers are on the back of the workbook and I think the teacher's manual (Master Book) is at the bottom of the above link. I thought the Master Book was for self-studying using other exercises, but is that what you gals are using to teach?
  13. I just looked at KISS grammar and I have the second grade workbook opened up in MS Word, but I can't find a teacher's manual except for this for exercise 1. Is there are printable teacher's guide that is for the entire second grade level?
  14. Thanks Jennifer, and that makes sense. I don't think I could download everything they have in a year, but if I have access to just that one year of material, that would be sufficient. We love handmade wooden toys. Website?
  15. I'm glad you asked this because I'm wondering what geography workbook to purchase. I was looking at Spectrum because there is a sale at christianbooks.com but I couldn't find any reviews of it here. E-M is expensive, but Complete Geography seems very affordable for such a big book. I want to implement The Core's suggestion, but I still would like a workbook.
  16. We learn everything best by listening to audiobooks. Would this audio be too overwhelming for an elementary child to understand? We would just treat this as another story to listen to without any pressure for narration. I was hoping for her to absorb the information and then I could discuss it with her by breaking it down into simple terms if needed.
  17. Thank you for the extra discount code! Hmmm, I'm tempted on any sale. The notebook pages look lovely, but the question is will I really use them? Oh, is there a history notebook where all the important figures have pictures, kind of like the presidents version? Also, once we buy the membership, does it mean that all the notebook pages are ours to keep beyond the 1 year membership?
  18. Or you could continue with Singapore and use MM's Blue series (just worksheets for drilling).
  19. I don't know about CLE as I have never used it, but MM2 does have enough drills and now the current version apparently has more spacing (haven't used this new version as we're in MM3 now). Singapore wasn't working for us last year, so I switched to MM and it's been amazingly easy to use and has given us great results. However, we've added back Singapore since it's working again this year. MM2 has enough word problems but I've also included CWP so that DD gets more of them (to her dismay). There is no teacher's manual and the instructions on the worksheets are addressed to the student. The author takes a step-by-step approach, so it's actually possible for a kid to use MM independently.
  20. Do you happen to know how much of a discount we are getting?
  21. Thank you everyone for helping me through this decision. I'm holding it off for now because I don't want to add another phonics program (happy with AAS) and I think the work required for Grade 4 may not be appropriate for her at this moment. Maybe next year I'll reconsider or see what wiser moms here do :D.
  22. Did you get Astronomy or Anatomy junior? We've started with Zoology but I'm willing to switch to Astronomy in order to get the benefit of a good notebook. I don't think Zoology has junior notebooks yet.
  23. PR makes IEW look cheap! Anyway, I've never heard of PR until just now, and I really don't think I can spend the money just to try this curriculum despite the rave reviews. So....is the combination of WWE, FLL (or some vintage text), and AAS equivalent to all the levels of PR? Or some other combination perhaps? Maybe this question should be a new thread? :D I hate to miss out on PR just because it's pricey.
