  1. I own SOTW Vol. 1 and several of the accompanying books and had been planning to dive into Ancients in July as part of DS's 1st Grade curriculum. However, over the past couple of months, ds has developed a huge interest in many of the topics covered in Vol. 2. (knights, vikings, castles, King Arthur, etc.) Now I'm starting to think that he would get a lot out of Vol. 2 NOW due to his interest in the subject matter. And so I find myself conflicted. What would you do? Would you stick with the chronology and start with Volume 1 or would you teach to his interest and skip ahead to Vol. 2? Has anyone taught SOTW successfully out of order? Or is there some other program out there that might be better suited for this situation? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks! 2. I was just thinking about this as well. (and a wee bit last minute here at our house too!) This was the first year since I was in high school that I let the Ides of March get past me so I'm feeling the need to make up for it. My high school English teacher always celebrated by letting us have a Toga party. I'm not sure that is quite what you are looking for though. :D I hope someone will have some fabulous ideas for you. I'll be :lurk5:. Paula Mom to Noah (6) and Keira (3) On permanent Spring Break from PS Kindergarten!
  3. :lurk5: I am curious to hear more opinions about this as well. TFP!
  4. We just started at Spring Break when we took our ds our of public kindergarten. I have been debating and debating on the best schedule for our family and I'm really liking the sound of going year round. I think I'll sit down with the calendar tomorrow and lay out the 'breaks' and see what I can come up with to make this work. Thanks so much for all of the input on this thread!
  5. Hi, I'm Paula and I'm new here. I just started down this road at Spring Break and right now, I'm using a Moleskin calendar to keep a daily record of what we accomplish. You can see it here: http://www.moleskineus.com/moleskine-daily-planner-pocket-black-hardcover.html Dh calls it my little black book. :001_smile: I like it because it fits into my purse easily. I have a general outline of what we wanted to finish by the end of the "school year" this year. I know what we need to do, and by keeping track of what is finished each day, it gives me a nice feeling of accomplishment, even if we don't get to everything. I keep track of everything from park days, to field trips, even bedtime stories so that it is all in one place. It is working for now with just a K'er and a 3-year old.
