  1. I'm not familiar with either of these, but just in case this is helpful, HWT offers a free worksheet maker now using their fonts. You just have to register to use it. http://www.hwtears.com/APLUS
  2. We really enjoy Johnnie's Math Page! Now I'm off to check out some of the others listed.
  3. We are using US edition. Ds (6) is almost through 1A and dd (4) is near the end of Essential Math A.
  4. My ds (6) is using the text, workbook, intensive practice book and the Challenging Word Problems. I haven't bought the HIG, yet, but I know I will need it at some point.
  5. Both my kiddos LOVE Explode the Code workbooks. Book 1 starts with cvc words. My dd (4) is about half way through it and asks to work in it daily! :001_smile:
  6. When I pulled my son out of PS Kindy after spring break, we did MUS Primer until the end of the year. My dd (4) is doing Singapore Essentials A right now for PreK. She is doing well with it. If she gets all the way through Essentials B in PreK, we will do MUS Primer for Kindy. If she doesn't, we will continue with Singapore Essentials B in Kindy, and then on to MUS Primer. We also do lots of additional, hands-on math with all sorts of manipulatives. . .counting bears, shape blocks, geoboards, etc.
  7. Thanks for the wonderful links! We will make use of these very soon. :001_smile:
  8. We actually just bailed on our SOTW 1 Studies and switched to SOTW 2 because of the Dear King Arthur. :001_smile: My 6 year old is absolutely engulfed in knights, castles, armor, chivalry. It started in May when we took our dd to Medieval Times for her birthday. I got him a copy of King Arthur and his Knights by Jim Weiss. He hasn't looked back since, listening to it at least twice a day. I debated on whether we should even try SOTW 1, but though maybe we could do both. He was not the least bit interested in the ancients, so after a month I decided not to fight it and we switched. He loves SOTW 2!! We'll back track a little later and pick up with the ancients where we left off. So to answer the question, looks like we are going to be incorporating KA through at least the first half of SOTW 2. :001_smile:
  9. www.hwtears.com/APLUS You have to register to use it. YAY!!! :001_smile: I love their lined paper, but I have always wanted to be able to print out copywork using their lines and font.
  10. My kiddos (6 and 4) LOVE Beethoven's Wig. Each piece is on the cd twice. First, as a silly song about the composer, then the second time, it is just the instrumental music. This series is a HUGE success at our house.
  11. We just use the workbooks and the magnetic stamp & write board thingy. She LOVES that. We used the slate a little at the beginning, but the magnetic board was a much bigger hit.
  12. My 3.5 dd went through the Pre-K book in about 8 weeks when we started homeschooling ds (6) in March. It took her 8 weeks because I would basically pry it out of her hands after she finished about 6 pages. lol. She loved it! She is 4 now and just started the K book with our new year in July and is very comfortable with it. She is reading in the 3rd box of BOB books and is in the second set of MCP Readers, if that helps. I would say start the K book now. It is a gentle book.
  13. We use both AAS and ETC with my ds (6). He loves them both, but the AAS is teacher intensive. You can see the scope and sequence of each level of ETC here. It might help you get a better idea of where to start.
  14. A homeschool version would be great! It was hard sorting though what we actually needed to prep and what needed to be preped for 20 kids in a class.
  15. We are using it this year and so far, I LOVE it! We got it with the kit of pre-cut pill bottles and other required supplies (I found it here used.) and they have it at RR. It takes a little time to prep everything, but then it is just open and go after that. We are using it basically as a 'center'. The kids are having so much fun with it that I'm planning to continue with the intermediate level. If you don't mind the set-up time, it is a great program.
  16. Our LA line-up looks about the same for my ds (6): ETC AAS FLL WWE HWOT plus Reading We alternate ETC & AAS. Two days each per week on a 4-day/week schedule. We also alternate HWOT and WWE/FLL. Again, two days each. This way, we do reading and two other LA subjects everyday (I count WWE/FLL as one.) and then math everyday. This is the first part of our day, when these 4 things are done. . .breaktime! Then we come back and add in our electives on a loop schedule. (History, Geography, Science, Spanish, Music and Art) It looks overwhelming on paper, but I don't think you have to do them each everyday to cover the material in a thorough manner.
  17. This! Exactly. And Tinkerbell leaves pixie-dust covered gifts everytime we go to Disney World too. Oh how I love that little Fairy!!!! :001_smile:
  18. For those of you that follow a Loop schedule AND have set up your lessons based on the "the" filing system :001_smile:, how do you have everything set up in your weekly folders? I have diligently ripped and copied and have my files all set, at least for the first 18 weeks of this year. However, we are mid-way through week 2 of school, and I'm already seeing that this just isn't going to work for us. At all. I wasn't organized last year. We started hs'ing in March at ps "spring break" and I just got what I needed and did the next thing in each subject until the end of the year. I didn't realize it until today really, but I was following more of a loop schedule. For this year, I have set my files up with everything assigned to a specific day during the week. My kids hate it! (and so do I!!!) I need to go through and reorganize my files asap back into our loop-style schedule, but I'm not sure of the best way to make use of the filing system with this schedule. Any advice? :banghead:
  19. My then 3-year-old couldn't stand that big brother could read and she couldn't. We used the Leap Frog videos, both The Letter Factory and The Talking Word Factory, and BOB books. The two work well together and are not at all like 'lessons'. I highly recommend them for wee ones that are really interested in reading.
  20. Pattern Blocks Counting Bears in 3 sizes Letter Tiles puzzibits Pop Beads and then MUS blocks, legos, and our new favorite are the foam cubes, cylinders and pyramids from the $1.00 spot at Target. (teacher tools out now!) And fyi for anyone looking for Mighty Mind sets, I have seen them recently at our local TJMaxx, so you might check the toy dept. there if you have one in your area.
  21. DS (1st) is using AAS. We had been doing 1 lesson a week when we started at the end of K. I have 1 lesson a week planned for most of the upcoming year, but some of the weeks that introduce a new concept, I'm planning to work on for two weeks. We do AAS 2-3 times a week and he LOVES it! :001_smile:
  22. Hi Amy. I think I would ease into it. We started school here this week. Ds (6) in 1st and dd (4) is pre-K4. I had all subjects planned (and neatly filed in my file box!), but this first week, we are really only getting through the basics. . .reading, language arts, and math. Our history and science have both been more read aloud than lessons. I think after a week or two, we will be able to cover everything. We just haven't gotten our grove back yet. I had the first week planned as an "intro" to history and space, so as of today, I'm not stressing about the fact that we aren't covering as much yet. The kids are enjoying what we are doing, and for me that is a big deal here at the beginning of the year.
