  1. Has anyone used TeacherFileBox.com? Did you feel it was worth the money for access? I have a couple of Evan-Moor books and I really like what I've seen so far. It looks like it could be great for supplementing our subjects throughout the year, but I would love to hear from some of you that have used it before. Thanks for the insight!
  2. We have used FLL1 with a 1st grade boy and a Pre-K/4 girl combined this year and it has been a huge success for both. The gentle lessons and repetition have made it very doable for my DD. We actually do our FLL during a meal. . . either breakfast or lunch. We all sit at the table together and we talk through it while we eat. It makes for a great discussion time. I do adjust the writing activities that go along with some of the lessons for each child. I wouldn't hesitate to combine 1st and K with this program.
  3. We have have used a MUS/Singapore 1A & 1B combo with ds for 1st grade this year and it has been a perfect fit for us. MUS gave him the solid facts and Singapore gave him a better challenge with a completely different approach. We also used the Singapore IP and CWP books. We plan to continue this for 2nd with MUS Beta & SM 2A & 2B. I'll probably phase out MUS eventually, but not anytime soon.
  4. I was going to suggest RSO as well. We love it here!
  5. Thank you Angela! I think you have convinced me. ;)
  6. I should just hand over my credit card to SWB now. :001_huh: :001_smile:
  7. Roland Wright Future Knight by Tony Davis and Roland Wright Brand New Page by Tony Davis We are in the depths of the Middle Ages and ds (7) LOVED Future Knight. It had funny moments and contains great character message. I would call it "light" historical fiction. I cannot truly speak for the second book as we are just starting it, but ds is very anxious to read it based on the first. I would highly recommend! *Note: Brand New Page is not available in soft cover until later this year.
  8. This is exactly our experience as well. (LOL @ Cartoon Road to Reading!) DS is about to start ETC 5 and we are using the last 4 volumes as a supplement to AAS, skipping around in ETC to align the lessons with AAS. DD (4) is finishing AAS 2 and we will begin aligning her lessons with AAS with book 3.
  9. Piano - I had planned to teach this myself and bough two different programs. I still haven't managed to make time. Hopefully, will get to it this summer. Spanish - I just haven't ever found a program that we like. I'm planning to subscribe to Discovery Streaming starting in the summer in hopes of finding our answer.
  10. Do the countries covered in Top Secret Adventures come in a specific order like Little Passports? Does anyone know where I might find the list of countries covered? I didn't see it on the website anywhere. I want to use one of these programs for our next school year as a jumping off point for geography. I would love to be able to gather coordinating materials for the country that we will be studying each month ahead of time. A list of contries covered and in what order would be oh-so-helpful! Thanks for all the great info on these programs! :001_smile:
  11. My ds (7) and dd (4) started using Adventures in Typing with Timon and Pumba a few weeks ago based on a recommendation that I saw on this board. They are really enjoying it so far and learning so much! It is a really cute program.
  12. This is what we do as well! Isn't it freeing? I much prefer celebrating what we have accomplished as opposed to seeing what might not have been finished. (I'm a 'glass is half full' kind of gal!) Over the summer, I organize all of our subjects and divide out how much we should complete per week or month to stay on track. This gives me a rough outline of our plan for the year. Then, I use a Moleskine calendar as a log book and log each day's work as we complete it. I also write in things that the kids do over the weekend that I would considere "school" type activites. I don't think I could functtion any other way! :001_smile:
  13. Congratulations to you and your family! What an exciting day! This is when we pulled our little guy out of Kindy last year. I joke that we are STILL on Spring Break. :001_smile: It has been the absolute best decision that we have ever made. I hope you experience as much joy from your permanent Spring Break as we have!
  14. We just finished Roland Wright, Future Knight by Tony Davis and my 7-year-old LOVED it. He dove right into the second book in the series by Davis. I was looking for something similar, but slightly meatier, for his next Middle Ages adventure. Thanks SO MUCH for this recommendation!
  15. Oh, those are way cute! Thanks for the link. I was looking for a cute project to do this weekend and this is it! :hurray:
  16. I really want to go! We are out of town for 8 days the week before and I just haven't been able to justify the time away yet. . .but I'm still working on it. I'm dying to hear SWB and JW!!!
  17. My ds is in book 4 of ETC and Level 2 of AAS. It is my plan, once he finishes this ETC book, to go through the rest of the ETC books 5-8 that I already own, and tear out and match the pages with the lessons in AAS. I hope that these will line up nicely. After looking at the scope and sequence of both, it seems that many will. Then, I can use ETC more as extra practice with what we are working on in AAS. (and I can file the ETC pages in my file box!!) :001_smile: That is my plan, anyway. We shall see how it works.
  18. You might give a listen to Beethoven's Wig. My two (4 & 7) LOVE it!
  19. I'm so excited that homeschoolbuyersco-op.com is offering this at up to 25% off! I have wanted to try it for so long and this is just the little push that I needed to go for it! I think I might get my niece a set for her birthday as well. Woohoo!
  20. We use all of this, except we do ETC instead of PP, for ds in 1st this year. I just wanted to chime in and say. . .even though it sounds like a lot, this is very doable. Our school has 4 full days of school, and 1 day of classes outside the house all over the place. We alternate ETC and AAS and we alternate HWT with WWE. FLL has become a "do it during meal time" lesson and the kids beg for it, so we do it a lot. That really turns into 3 language arts subjects per day, one of which is mostly orally during breakfast or lunch. I don't feel that we are behind or loosing anything by alternaing subjects with ETC, AAS, HWT, and WWE all getting done 2 times per week. I know I'm not helping either, but just wanted to let you know that it is not nearly as much as it sounds. :001_smile: And fwiw, we love each and every one of these programs and wouldn't let go of any of them!
  21. I still love the Homeschool section on The Pioneer Woman's blog. I have been back through all of the archives and there is a lot of great information in there!
