  1. The people who were tearing down pictures of Jewish hostages were straight up anti-semitic. Even if you don't approve of Israeli government behavior, how does that translate into tearing down hostage pictures? I agree with fairfarmhand that it is a flattening of nuance. Some people have picked a side, and then that side can do no wrong. That seems to be the case with adults more and more, so why would it not affect the younger generation? In addition to the social media influence of course. I was horrified by Oct 7th. I am horrified at the civilian crisis in Gaza. I am as liberal as they come, but the responses of the university leaders were disgusting and blindingly hypocritical.
  2. I just remember awhile back we used to talk about it on the chat board as long as people stayed civil. That's probably an impossibility though... 😔 I saw no one had posted anything about it and wondered if it was just straight up banned now. I'm really curious what pro-lifers think about what's happening. I know a lot of them didn't think these things would ever happen, that it was just a scare tactic.
  3. I take it in pill form, 200 mg. This article mentioned leaves though. https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/herb/feverfew Here's another medical article. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3210009/
  4. Don't know where else to ask this...is talking about abortion against board policy? I am so upset about what has been happening with Kate Cox in Texas I'm about to explode.
  5. I take it when my migraines flare up, which means I don't have any right now. But it definitely helps me when I start having more than one migraine in a month or so. Look up feverfew also, that is more helpful than magnesium even in my experience.
  6. That's insulting and judgmental. You have no idea what motivation is in a woman's head when she's dressing. Why would you assume to know what they are "buying into" and why? Tearing other women down and calling them pathetic is not the feminist flex you think it is. Sorry OP - that fabric is lovely and I'm sure your daughter will be beautiful!
  7. This is ours. We previously had a big squirrel problem and also a large bird problem. Large birds were bullying the smaller birds as well as eating all the seed in one day. This one has been ripped down twice by a bear and still survived. I call that a win! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B27WDPRD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 The squirrels were still getting on there, but we added this on top. Now a squirrel RARELY makes it on there, and we figure if he did, he earned it. Also fun to watch them try. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BW4S25GY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
  8. We had a special trip planned to San Francisco. That was January 2020. : ( Things shut down for Covid and we had to cancel everything. But we had a friend there who was going to take us to different bars/restaurants on the beach and we were going to have a drink and an appetizer at each place. We had also rented a place for a karaoke party.
  9. This sounds really cool, but the two player variant looks kind of complicated?
  10. I think it's okay. When we read about people in the past, it's interesting and revealing. We know it's never the whole story, that's kind of a given. It's your grandfather, not a historical figure that influenced society that would be more important to see in a balanced way.
  11. I'll share this one, which I think I actually got from here a few years ago and added some modifications Smoky Potato Chickpea Stew Ingredients 2 Tbsp olive oil 2 cloves garlic 1 tsp grated fresh ginger or Tbsp ginger powder 1 diced yellow onion or one bag frozen onions 1 Tbsp curry powder 1 Tbsp smoked paprika (I use extra, must be smoked, not regular) 1 15oz. can diced tomatoes (fire roasted, or with garlic and oregano) 2 russet potatoes peeled and cut 1 inch squares (or 1/2 bag frozen diced hashbrowns) 1 15oz. can chickpeas DRAINED (aka garbonzo beans) Something to add heat like cayenne pepper, squeeze of Sriracha 4 cups vegetable broth (I used 1 ½ boxes for a double batch) 1/4 lb. fresh kale or couple handfuls of baby spinach Instructions 1. Add the onion to a large soup pot with the olive oil and sauté over medium heat until the onions are soft and transparent. 2. Add the garlic, ginger, curry powder, smoked paprika, to the pot and continue to stir and cook for 1-2 minutes more to toast the spices. 3. Once the spices are toasted, add the potatoes, diced tomatoes (with juices), and chickpeas to the pot. Pour the vegetable broth over top, plus whatever for spicy heat then stir until everything is combined. 4. Place a lid on the pot, turn the heat up to medium-high, and allow it to come to a boil. Once boiling, turn the heat down to low and allow the soup to simmer with the lid in place for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. 5. After 45 minutes, stir the stew well and smash the potatoes against the side of the pot to help them break down and thicken the stew. Add the chopped kale or spinach and stir it into the stew until it has wilted. Taste the soup and adjust the salt or other spices if desired. Serve hot with crusty bread or crackers.
  12. That sounds yummy! For potatoes I usually buy a bag of diced breakfast potatoes and use those.
  13. Texas, as an example, has had some of the biggest problems in the country with its foster care/cps system for YEARS. Yet, four special sessions for school vouchers! 😑 One of the things I hate most about the political environment right now is how essential and vital issues are just pushed aside. CPS? Foster systems? Healthcare costs? Healthcare in rural areas? Nah....we want to fight over the latest and greatest cultural issues instead. Oh, and Prosper School District is building a $94 million dollar high school football stadium, because if they don't, property values might go down! I've literally given up hope. Nobody cares.
  14. I'll be honest, this is part of what scares me about voucher systems that give money to homeschool families without oversight. It's another incentive added for families that aren't serious about teaching and homeschool for more nefarious reasons.
  15. I want to make soup! I am also very lazy. 🙂 I will cook ground beef or will shred a rotisserie chicken. I will chop SOME but not too much. I always have a package of frozen chopped onions handy. We love beans, we love spinach, we love canned diced tomatoes. Favorite recipes? Oh, love potatoes too, but usually used ready diced.
  16. Are you trying to be hurtful, or helpful? Oh I wasn't being hurtful... Okay, help me understand how that was helpful then. Blah blah blah.. Well thanks for the input. I was just joking. Be funnier then. or (clueless expression) Help me understand what was funny about that. They don't expect to be challenged, so if you can get them "off their timing" each time, eventually they get tired of it. If they don't after awhile, develop a pat response, like "thanks for the input" while being dismissive and walking away, disengaging, as quickly as possible. The link I left for that Jefferson guy gives ideas for different situations, like when they are being petty, acting superior, need to be confronted, etc.
  17. Standing up to them doesn't mean responding in kind necessarily. I really like this guy on instagram who is a former lawyer who talks about communication issues. One thing he suggested was looking at them very directly and asking, "Are you trying to be hurtful, or helpful?" I liked that one. He has lots of videos you can browse. https://www.instagram.com/jefferson_fisher
  18. I just recently bought one, not this model, and was very disappointed. You couldn't apply any pressure to the brush or it stopped spinning. And using it without pressure did not do very much at all. Did you have that problem with this one?
  19. Currently sitting in the house I grew up in, visiting my 92 yo dad. Won't be able to for much later longer tho. 😔 My mom died last year. Lots of ghosts (figurative) including my previous selves...
  20. Literally just watched a tiktok where the recommended reply to any snark/meanness at Thanksgiving was a puzzled look, pause, then "What a strange thing to say to me." then walk away. I love it!
  21. I'm trying to process telling someone you *can't* bring something. I get making sure the traditions are covered. But bringing something *additional*... good grief, what does that hurt? Is the mere existence of your mac and cheese offensive?? Your fam likes it and if no one else eats it, more to take home. That's what I would say... "Don't worry, I'm happy to take leftovers back home!"
