  1. Can anyone compare these two programs? I would be using these for my dd going into 3rd and my other dd going into 2nd. If you can't compare the two, could you give me the good, bad and/or ugly on either? Are both mastery? My girls have used BJU math up until now.
  2. So I stumbled upon sheldon's pll yesterday and wondered if anyone has used them? What grade would you say this book was written for? Also, the Advanced Language lessons by sheldon...what ages/grades was that intended for? I'm trying to decide for my 5th grade dd. She has used GWG in the past. I've noticed there is a "new" version also. Any idea if it's just as good?
  3. My dd is entering 5th grade this fall. In second grade we used English for the Thoughtful Child and then in 3rd and 4th we use GWG. I have no problems with GWG but dd seems to have become bored with the same thing over and over. I've been trying to narrow down some choices. I was looking in ILL or Easy Grammar. Or, just continuing with GWG b/c it seems to be working it's just a tad dry. We will also be using Progeny Press literature guides. Dd is not very storng in writing either. That is something we need to focus on this year. She loves to read and will devour a book in one day but groans and moans when it comes to writing. Thoughts?!
  4. I've been looking at McRuffy language arts for my k, 2nd, and 3rd graders next year. I'd love to hear some feedback on those who have used it. Also, is the teacher's manual a must have? What did you love or not love about it? I've tried to search for McRuffy but not a lot comes up. THanks!!
  5. I was less than impressed with the guide. The books were great but I felt like the guide lacked any real meat.
  6. We switched from HOD to portraits of American Girlhood. There is a lot more freedom! My girls are in 4th, 2nd and 1st. I do have to do some tweaking for the little ones but it really works for us and my girls are loving it. I've considered learning adventures and prairie primer. We also used beautiful feet early american history one year but it wasn't my favorite. I'm in the minority on that opinion though!
  7. I noticed from another thread you use POAG too. We use it and love it! Do you think POAG and LLATL would go well together?
  8. I'm looking into using LLATL for next year for 5th grader and 3rd and 2nd grader. But then I stumbled upon zaner Blosers grammar and it looks good to but there are hardly any reviews. We currently use ZB's spelling and love it. Thoughts on either program or can anyone compare them? Thanks!
  9. My dd uses bob jones math. We like it but I just stumbled upon Mathematical Reasoning. It looks very engaging and I like that you don't need a seperate teachers manual. Has anyone used Mathematical Reasoning and Bob Jones to be able to compare the two programs? Any thoughts are appreciated!! I'd love to hear the good, bad and ugly on either/both programs!! Thanks!
  10. What part of PA are you in? I'm in Pittsburgh. So do you turn in a daily log listing everything you've done that day? Next year will be our first year we're required to submit anything and I'm confused on what the daily log needs to be. Do I need to record every lesson with pages for each day?? In my head, that seems WAY too much but I'm not sure....Do you turn in a record of the 180 days?
  11. WOW! This post was so helpful. Next year is our first year having to log/submit/record anything and this was so helpful!!
  12. You can do either 1 or 2 guides depending on how well you think the 2 kids would combine. Next year I'll have my 3rd grader in Bigger and my 1st and K'er in LHFHG. They do offer extension packages making it easy to extend learning for older kids.
  13. I'm trying to decide which grammar curriculum to use for next year. We will be using HOD/Bigger and the recommended grammar is R&S but we used their Reading portion this year and it was so dreadfully boring. Can anyone compare the two? Likes? Dislikes? Which one is more teacher intensive? My dd will be in 3rd grade next fall. I've never used anything from Abeka so I have no experience at all with it.
  14. Does HOD ever offer coupons codes for their website????
  15. For me, Zofran helped with the throwing up but it did nothing for my nausea so I stopped taking it. Sometimes I felt better actually throwing up so I opted for that route. I did use Unisom and B6 too.
  16. YES! That's one of the reasons we switched from CLE.
  17. A friend of mine recommended Bob Jones math. We've been using Singapore and next school year my kids will be in 3rd, 1st and K. We tried TT a bit and CLE and they just were not a good fit for us. What do you like/dislike about Bob jones? How does it compare to Singapore?
  18. We're heading to Williamsburg May 13-20th and I'd like to keep an eye on the weather. Does anyone live locally that can direct me to a website or local new station that has the forecast online? Thanks!!
  19. One of my kiddo's broke our camera the other day. I'm looking for camera suggestions for a good point and shoot camera for under $250. Our last one was a Nikon and I really liked it.
  20. I know in the guide for LHFHG there are daily math lesson plans that go along with Singapore Earlybird but I'm wondering if there are also, maybe in the appendix, daily lessons/activities that correspond with Singapore 1A? I'm considering using LHFHG next year for my 1st and K daughters but wondered how the math works when you're using 1 guide and 2 different years of math? Do you think LHFHG isn't enough for 1st grade?
  21. I just wanted to say I had a very similar experience in 2005...:grouphug: I know the pain associated with this situation...
