  1. I throw some elderberries in hot tea. If I'm feeling ambitious, or the whole family is sick, I will make some elderberry syrup.
  2. We went in July two years ago and it snowed. It was really very cold! So plan for the crazy weather. We took a tour bus ride , it was very interesting but a little scary for those afraid of heights (me!). We went rafting nearby- I can't remember the name - and they had a family friendly rafting option that my then 6 year old could try. :)
  3. My daughter cracked her front tooth, and ended up needing a root canal. Since she was afraid of needles it ended up being very expensive as she needed to be put under. She has a filling now, but eventually she will need a crown. I no longer can look when any of my kids hurt their mouth- I'm so afraid of teeth being damaged!
  4. This spring my homeschool group had a field trip to the impressive National Forefather's Monument http://www.seeplymouth.com/things-to-do/national-monument-forefathers It is near downtown. I have lived near Plymouth my whole life and had no idea it existed! The Mayflower replica is usually a hit with kids (next to the rock).
  5. My 8 year old started working with code.org this summer and has really enjoyed it! I didn't know about the elementary class, but he would love it so please share what you hear! Unfortunately I don't know of any other sites. Following. :lurk5:
  6. Love this! My 3rd grade son is obsessed with geography and begged me to include it as a separate subject this year. Thanks :)
  7. My second grader is doing R&S 2. I will be honest and say that it is not challenging and he knows most of the information. However, he has trouble with writing for any length of time, so I can't imagine him with the longer assignments in 3 (with my girls this is never an issue). He completes the assignments on handwriting paper and it counts as both subjects.
  8. I usually let mine jump right into the next level, it doesn't make too much difference to me where we start in the fall. But I try to include some fun review math to break things up a bit. I also like the supplementary singapore mental math and challenging word problems.
  9. I usually go over the lesson/assignment first, covering any new material and making sure she understands what is expected. Then she goes and does it, but my DD9 is very independent regarding schoolwork. We do some subjects together such as history and science.
  10. I am really enjoying this thread since I prefer non-fiction. Reading with the library open in another tab. Immediately placed a hold on $64 tomato since that really resonates with me  I will second (third?) the Animal, Vegetable Miracle and add anything by Michael Pollan, Nina Planck or Joel Salatin Lost on Planet China by J. Maarten Troost The One World Schoolhouse by Salman Khan One Year Off by David Elliot Cohen
  11. Tracfones here. I recently upgraded to one with a touchscreen (my DH went swimming with my phone on vacation). I don't text or go online.. although there are times it would be nice to just look something up quick while out.
