  1. well...I guess I am in the minority...In south florida we call them tank tops? Or tanks with bras inside? I know they are the same as Camis? I have some of those with the thin straps that are adjustable...and a bra inside...I wear them all the time in darker colors like shirts....I wouldnt wear them to a "function" per se or I wouldn't wear if you "show" through them....My girls wear those tank top types all the time. Most of the time I use them to go to the pool or beach...or running errands. Nothing really in doors. I wanted to add...I would say only tops that are not see through...those that you can see through are for under shirts...maybe those without lining?
  2. I make my tea with my Kurig, Not the ones that come with it...just hot water brewed and I put a tea bag in with either a stevia or a tsp. of sugar. I prefer sugar...much yummier. I recently purchased this purple box of tea from lipton...I believe it is called British Blend. It is so strong and GOOD!! It is very good. I also love the breakfast tea in the red box. Nothing fancy for me to brew...just some good old hot water and the tea bag thrown in :)
  3. If you are asking for when YOU are driving...I would just make her daughter use the full seat belt on the car seat...no questions asked. I tell my friend flat out the dangers of not properly using the car seat. I have no problem telling her how horrible she would feel if her son flew past her in the car and through the front window. I give her real life examples that my husband as an officer has seen. I think it is terrible she wears a belt but her son is not required to use his proper. Im sure she blows me off...but maybe it will stick one day...I dont say it in a "mean " way...I just say it whenever I see him out of the seat. NOW...if you are speaking of YOUR FRIEND driving your 9 yo...I think if your 9 yo uses his belt properly in your car...you just insist that HE makes that choice to put it on proper regardless of your friends choice. I know MY 9 yo can do that and does do that with her friends that dont use seat belts. She always comments when she comes home and tells me that she tells her friends the same types of stories about seatbelts. (makes me proud Ive ingrained that into her brain:D)
  4. yes...we went to a quidad stylist and she puts the gel and rakes the hair with your fingers...grabs the tips in your hand and then shake that hair side to side slightly...it helps your curls form tightly. My DD wont let me do it on the front curls because it really makes them coil tightly. Maybe that would work on the front hairs that are flatter? I imagine your hair is so used to being back behind your sunglasses that it is flatter in front. I purchased those tiny little clips for my DD and she uses those with a twist to keep it back...not usually pulled straight back.
  5. My son went back into ps during 8th grade...we after school with online classes. Right now we are in 11th grade taking biology. He was fortunate enough to get into a vocational school this year so he only takes english, math and reading at school...the rest I do homeschool online at home with him. I have no idea how I was so lucky to get to still work with him. It is very hard to fit it in...but I know I push him far more then he would be doing in school. We will be doing all his science, history and I possibly one math. We use FLVS as a public school student which allows him to get credit on his transcripts at school. I dont have to do my "own" curriculum so it is a bit different, but I make sure we are working on the topics together.
  6. yes...only comb in the shower not dry! My dd uses Curl Junkie ...we buy all her hair products at curlmart.com online. They always have coupons. We try as hard as we can to stay away from lower end products as they end up drying her hair too much. If you have to buy grocery store items...dove has a white bottle with gold...dove oil (or something) conditioner that is very nice or pantene also does the job. We buy a leave in conditioner for extra moisture when needed, Conditioner we like...beauticurls by curl junkie curl rehab in gardinia and coconut, by curl junkie a small amount goes a LONG way! quidad has a nice "gel" that is climate control. That works good. I didnt care for the shampoo line... Also, diva curl is a great product.
  7. i used to drive 17 miles...it was 45 minutes in the am, 20-30 in the pm.
  8. here in Fl. I can access all the school books and see the names of the books. For example...we use an online access page that has all our books and online copies...so if we have a friend in public school...you could log in with them and see all the grade level books from K-12. That is in fl. So they use typical "school" books...Like we use Glencoe reading and english, houghton mifflin harcourt english and math, pentince hall or glencoe in upper grades...ours allows us to see the books and pages...I imagine you would have to go through the publishers links to see the pages or examples...but the charter and private schools are very different in what they use. I would imagine these "brands" of books are very popular in the Public Schools across the nation...glencoe, harcourt, pentince..etc. Good luck.
  9. sorry...I am in the same boat with my 16 yo...but I no longer get super upset...I walk away and go outside to cool off. I come in and remove all the TV's, computers, video games...etc. Nothing left. Things right now are all gone. Nothing is coming back until things are better and rules are followed. It has made a difference in just taking everything away. You want it back, you follow the rules. It is SUPER HARD as a parent to follow through. I always had given in because they did behave and started making the right choices...but I learned recently to keep the punishment however long I said...and it is finally working better for me...small steps. At least for me...:) Teens are so hard and now I have a 11yo DD that is starting up. ahhh... I am sorry you are at your wits end. Some days we have to just go outside and be alone. Or take you baby outside for a walk and let you 11yo sit in the house while you collect yourself. :grouphug::grouphug:
  10. I would imagine if it is a technicality they would just need to contact the district and correct the papers while keeping attendance at home. Im sure it would reverse since your SIL would have her attendance records as required. I put a couple links I found that may be helpful to you...there is one that has lots of local links...maybe she could call and get advice from one of those in her area? http://www.leapingfromthebox.com/hs/alhs.html http://www.hslda.org/hs/state/AL/default.asp http://www.leapingfromthebox.com/hs/alhssupportgroups.html
  11. Depends where you are going...seems like it will be west of us now...so your vacation may be fine :)
  12. Mine bought the Jansport in Black lacis/storm gray print this year. It is very nice and girly. I bought it on ebags and they had a coupon for signing up for email...and free shipping. It was much cheaper then other stores. I havent seen the bag in stores yet.
  13. Mine plays travel softball...but we have never had a tournament that the kids share a room. It is always travel with parents. We only have 1-2 that we are far enough away to sleep over.
  14. I added Christian liberty Math 3 for my DD last year...it was a nice easy curriculum. I didnt do everything...just skipped around. I also had abeka 3 that I used as well...and it is an easy addition to throw in a page or two a day.
  15. Mine finally found some prescription cream samples the dermo gave her that kind of burned the tips of these and caused them to peel...then it forced the immune system to kick in and get rid of them once and for all. We tried freezing them, creams, vinegar...lots of stuff...but that last cream worked.
  16. I also agree it most likely will be too much. My dd is in gifted but going into 6th now. Her HW doesnt take too long but longer then 15 minutes...I usually add in a math. We do Lials College Algebra with no issues....but on school days...If they have HW I dont push adding anything else in. I have been spending a lot of time teaching my kids cooking lately. That has been a huge hit. She also enjoys those books with critical thinking...but we dont add much more then some math and iew during the school year. What does he want to do with his free time? Mine would ask me to read SOTW so that is a nice thing to read if he likes to have you read to him at night...and the literature would be fine as daily reading as well. My 11 yo, though, is not liking my book choices lately...so Ive given that up. I let her choose.
  17. I had my dd enter into K when she was halfway through abeka 1 at home with me. She was reading the magic tree house as well. Mine little one wasnt shy but loved the class. She had a great experience in school and when she got home...we did a little extra. When the kids had to do basic HW she might have added a sentence about the letter instead of just a cut out picture. My dd is one of the oldest in her class as a Nov. baby...but I think she is socially in the correct place. Now...going into 4th...I wouldnt change it. She is very happy and it all worked out.
  18. I had to ask my Eye dr. to put those lenses in that set of eyeglasses they use in the office to try in the office. I went out into the main area to look outside and see how I could see. The original prescription they gave me was just too strong and they dropped it down until I felt it was good. You may try that and realize it is too low...better to try it. I know it is sometimes a little off in that little room when they ask is one better or two...a or b...I know I mess up that ...they look too similar...LOL. The had lasik years ago and now I use 0.75 but the dr. told me I needed -2.00 last time I went. I am nowhere near that. I tried it and it was terrible. I imagine they make mistakes sometimes...but I did also hear your eyes go backwards a bit as you get older. You could be one of those lucky ones.
  19. Ive traveled with my kids since my little one was almost 3. I have done at least 4 trips with my 3 kids and myself without my hubby. I fill a cooler in the middle and take lots of books, games, and movies. We pull over whenever we get tired and usually run around a BK or MCDonalds to stretch our legs. Then we would stop anyplace that looked cool. I took fishing poles to hit local parks and we did hikes around in the mountains. I also would call my hubby and have him book a hotel online with priceline or phone and just tell him a town up the road from me. Now it is easier with a smartphone...but it is just as easy either way. I always got a great price and no hassles. We would stop at zoos or museums. I usually bought one pass and it was good nationwide for members. Pretty cool to visit them all.
  20. Has anyone seen zipper covers online for your pants? It has to be the stupid zippers putting holes in my shirts. I thought it was the granite until I wore a new shirt to universal this week and it got a hole after one day! GRRR! So It has to be those stupid zippers. any suggestions?
  21. I just bought polar bottles at Sports authority. They had great reviews and are 9.99 You can freeze them and they are dishwasher safe and bpa free. Last year I bought klean kanteen and they bubbled at the bottom when we put cold ice water. I was so disappointed. I also purchased those cheap stainless steel ones at target and they held up great but they have this little plastic ring that if you loose...your bottle leaks! So mine all leak!
  22. THat is very good to hear. :001_smile: As of now...she doesnt have any other reaction besides eczema. That is a pain since she itches a lot. I can almost always eliminate wheat and that goes away. The rings under her eyes pretty much clear up when I cut wheat. I can always tell when she has it and the rings come back. I never imagined in a million years she would develop a peanut allergy...but I do hearing it is possible to remain eating them as long as the reaction isnt bad. I have an appointment with the allergist at the end of the month to discuss it all. I am thankful it isnt a horrible allergy but this kid has always been my "allergy" fun child. She was even allergic to her diapers. but she is my easiest to adapt :) thanks everyone for the advice.
  23. I bought my one DD her dress at a local spanish baby store. THey had a nice selection...but closer to dec. not many out this time of year. I think I bought my middle daughter hers there as well...for about $30.00 or so? JCPenney had a ton of communion dresses around easter time or a little earlier. I bought my son's suit on Ebay. It was a great price and I donated it after. My girls couldnt share the dress since they had been a difference of about 2 sizes...:001_huh: but I had trouble finding some without shoulders showing. I ended up buying one that had a little jacket and one I had the sleeves sewed up so they looked like cap sleeves. So pretty.
