  1. I would just tell him you are taking him to the ER and walk him in but then stay out with your kids if you cant get anyone to watch them. You could stay someplace close with your girls while he gets checked out. That way he gets checked out and you still have your kids being cared for. Im sure if you really run into complications then you could call someone to help you out later. When I took my MIL to the hospital with high blood pressure...they kept her overnight.
  2. I let my DD have "fun" in K. She took her own books for reading but she loved the interactions and the arts. She really had a good time...Learning wise...she had completed abeka 1 at 4 yo and was way beyond the typical K lessons. She enjoyed the coloring and arts though...so I didnt mind. I had her working after school with me and that was enough. She still told everyone she was home schooled and in school. They did offer her advanced curriculum later in the year and some teachers sent the higher K kids to 1st grade to join high reading classes.
  3. Vodka (gray goose) with Tonic & a splash of cranberry and lime squeezed in! YUM!! ( i love that) Madris or Amaretto sour. with a slice of lime. That is also a yummy drink
  4. As a doula, I took photos as well if the parents requested that. I had my doula take photos...it was really nice. You can just ask them not to get right up in there ;)
  5. I think any mei tai would be perfect! I found my DD was cooler since they sides let air flow through & a light color is a must. As far as a brand...Im sure you could pick from hundreds. I liked the ones that had been thin with little padding. Very lightweight. The satin style fabrics reverse with cotton worked especially well here in s. florida.
  6. that is terrible...you should try tropiclean. It is so nice. They have a neem flea and tick one as well.
  7. It is hard. I have 3 kids...2 in gifted and 1 behind/in regular classes in high school. I work a lot with him. I feel blessed that he was able to get into a culinary arts program this year for vocational training...but I pretty much after school him for science, history and lots of math. I dont think the teacher has enough time to sit and focus on him and teach him the math. He is doing Alg. 1. I have the ESE department writing his HW/CW and explaining anything he cant get. I have to work a lot on things he struggles with. I have to do easy grammar, writing, math etc. whatever he needs. It depends on what is going on in school. It is overwhelming to me! I feel like all I do is school...just as much as when he was homeschooled! BUT he loves being in school so I make the time. Some days I give up and just put everything away. My DD 9 has been complaining a bit that she doesnt know what the teacher is explaining. I finally just emailed her for clarification. The teacher makes it seem like they are repeating things but my DD is saying they are not. It is hard. I write notes in her agenda reminding her to ask for help or directions.
  8. My son didnt retain TT very well. He switched to LIals Beginners Algebra and the book really explained everything to the student in detail. It was the first book he did amazing with. He has taken algebra so many times...and we have to review a lot...It finally is starting to sink in! Good luck! I hope you find a program that can help you!
  9. It is a difficult position at times that some years you get a teacher that is super excited and ready to work with you...and other years you get a teacher that isnt as happy you are so involved. I feel so blessed to be able to continue to help my kids through school and be knowledgeable on their subjects. Every once in a while you will get a teacher come along and tell you what a good advocate you are being for you child. This has been my year with my son's teacher. It sounds like it is falling together for you. My DD is getting the hang of her new teacher's routine this year and finally getting everything done in a good amount of time. Have you tried Spelling City.com ? That is a great way to help the kids learn the spelling words that are more difficult. My DD has to study them every night or she cant get them. We have 20 words...and they are SO hard this year but she is doing great. Another thing I see that works really well...it her teacher has her breaking the word down into syllables. Maybe that would help her on the HARD words. I only study the ones my DD misses...and we skip the rest. It really cuts down on the work load.
  10. my kids had to pass an IQ/achievement test for one preschool-K they attended. The scores had not been that detailed...just pretty basic. I found some local school psychologists here that do testing on their own on the side for a very reduced price. Is that all you are looking for? Sometimes you can find them to work with you outside of the schools. Are you doing it to enter that school or just get a detailed report? I had a difficult time in the school my kids attended with a scholarship. It was hard to fit in with everyone that could spend money freely.
  11. In my school district, when kids are identified in or out of school as gifted...the school creates an IEP. The IEP has specific wording on a curriculum the child is to be taught. It is one sentence...and very vague to parents. When you look up the exact definition of it...the meaning is no child can be taught anything they have mastered. Once I learned that, I was able to sit down with my principal and teacher and discuss my child's curriculum. They pretty much asked me if I was thinking they would create a "specific" curriculum for my girls...I said yes...they said they dont have time to do that...but by their "wording" on the IEP they are required to do that ....and they had to uphold it. They dont like to do it as it causes them much more work...but they had to. Im not sure how your county works for these issues but you may look it up on the main school website. I was able to look it up through the county's gifted site. (we are in a large district) So even though our gifted program doesnt start until 3rd, my dd had a different curriculum from K! It isnt extra work..it is different work. In the mean time, Glad to see you here. Im sure you will find lots of info to help you kids. You may love to look up some math, reading and writing extras that are fun. Maybe even some logic puzzles. My kids love those.
  12. WHAT!!@! That doesn't sound right? I would maybe have a conference with her and the assistant principal or principal to just discuss that right off the bat!! Sounds like she has given up on your child before she has attempted to work with her!! Maybe she has no plans on advancing her? Your DD should be able to learn a lot in 1st. It is a big year between K and 1 that some kids really take off in.
  13. I wonder how many dr.s are doing the swabs...or if they even care to do them? Mine didnt. She told me my DD was ill enough to be on antibiotics and prescribed her a 10 day treatment. She is not an antibiotic happy Dr. and this is probably the 4th time in her life she has been on them. I have to go back in 2 weeks for a follow up plus continue our breathing treatments. I imagine many Dr.'s are just doing the same. NJKelli.......My son had Bronchitis at a young age and now gets it everytime he gets sick. It's no fun. He usually stops it with an inhaler early. We've never used benedryl for it, though. My kids get super hyper and insomnia instead of sleepy. I hope it works for you. We are using Tylenol or advil for throat and swallowing water while holding our nose to help stretch and drain the ear...per the dr. Hoping that works.
  14. well...my 6th grader is doing all honors plus prealgebra. We are done with afterschooling with her. My 4th grader is in a gifted class getting enough challenging work...but....I am still able to add some IEW. That is my main focus right now. I probably will add some math in once we get into the routine. BUT....right now I understand! :001_smile: Im sure she is happy!
  15. My kids loved AR. We dont have it now in our school but they used to challenge each class and see who could do the best and read the most. It was a great way to get kids reading. The tests didnt seem overly difficult. I love that you can look up AR lists and get books on level.
  16. LOL...I always wear sandals when Im driving....I feel the same way. Someone told me they sell a pair at walgreens that fold up tiny just for this purpose!
  17. Mine had this too...my 11 yo. She had a DRY hacking cough...it was reflux! I had to give her Carafate to stop it.
  18. Im on the way with my dd9 who has been sick about 3 weeks. She has had a very mild sinus and cough and last night I caught her coughing and gasping for air in between. I actually got a little recorded to show my pediatrician but it only lasted a few minutes and she stopped coughing. I have my fingers crossed it isnt the beginning. She did that cant catch your breath inhale...each time. I cant figure out how else to explain it...where you keep trying to catch your breath breathing in loudly. I could hear the crackling sounds in her chest. No fun. She has been on musinex those granules but Im going in today to pick up her prescription again of xopernex and pulimicort. (spelling them wrong) I hope I get the same answers you did.
  19. Those are nice. I never used a wedge heel until this past year...A friend of mine explained how they have that rise under your toes and distribute your weight better...for less foot pain. Wow...I never realized what a difference. So..now I have a bunch of wedge heels and I love them! I use mine with jeans or pants...they look great with capri pants or even dresses. Something like those with a solid dress possibly a pair of pants...black, white, jean, with a sweater in white, teal, or maybe a few speckles of teal? They make a nice pop with a white top and a solid pant. Im really picky about my heels with dresses as I am used to a thin shoe not anything bulky...but it is just a matter of getting used to them. I like just adding a necklace and bracelet like someone else said and just match those with your shoes. You see a lot of ladies do that with Red heels...I have to get me a red pair that does that "POP" but the teal is pretty!!
  20. I feel very bad that you have to figure it out with a rental. I would say...running the machine with vinegar or Bleach once a week...or wiping it down every few days is a good start. I find the "timed" dry setting may work if the dryer is not drying. Have you cleaned the ducts? It may be that...they may not be getting enough circulation and the air is not drying. Not sure if it is an apt. but they may need to clean up to the roof ...where ever that tube goes. Mine goes right outside so it is pretty easy. I turned my dryer around and stuck my vacuum tube up the area that the tube attaches and vacuumed the junk out where I could. Maybe that will help.
  21. My 4th grader had algebra yesterday and today that was tricky. It took me a while to figure out how to explain the problem without using full algebra...couldnt do it...so I finally just showed her how to make a formula. Not sure how the typical 4th grader is supposed to figure it out still? I am sure there is some way to solve for these unknown numbers without algebra...just not sure how they teach it? Today we had to use it again but I was able to show her both ways to solve for the unknown number. Our class is also a gifted class...so not sure if that is why they are difficult...but I figured I would just teach her the easiest way to solve them and hopefully she can do it in school. I think our teachers this year teach pretty good and we dont have to reteach much. I did have to work with my DD in 5th last year A LOT. Her teacher didnt teach very well. I was having to read and do the work...I still have to do that with my 11th grader as well at times.
  22. I switched both my cats to Natural balance. I can switch between indoor and regular both in pink bags and I have had no issues. They get nothing additional to eat. NO wet foods, people food ...or treats. They are fine. I only give the measured amounts. I havent had issues with poopies since we started this food. I also had been given I believe L-Lysine granules from the adoption people for my kitty when she was adjusting. It just got added into the food and really helped her. I added it in her food when she had upset tummy. Sorry I have no answers for you...hope you figure it out.
  23. I would go crazy!! I went for my first visit to the surgeon and he asked me when I wanted surgery. I told him that day...LOL...He scheduled me for the following Monday. As terrified as I was to have surgery...I was so excited to see the end of my pain!!
  24. Ive seen a few local on craigslist but I really have no clue besides the name and how to judge if it is worth the money...im going to look some more but I see several that say lightly used.
