  1. We did over the summer while flying with kids. Not everyone had a phone to scan at the gate.
  2. Yes, Perry is a very unwelcome guest in my house. I'll be 47 next month. I have a ways to go probably. Sigh.
  3. If you're putting in bedrooms, consider installing wall heaters. We had them installed (they're called Cadet heaters) in each of the three basement bedrooms when we built our house and they have been fantastic. At the time we had our house built, we were staying in my parents basement and using space heaters constantly any time we were downstairs. However, we discovered that we couldn't use two of them on the same circuit. We asked the builder of our house about this, thinking maybe we could add more circuits. Instead he suggested these wall heaters and we absolutely love them.
  4. My oldest daughter is having to walk around a large college campus in winter conditions. The gloves we bought her (just Costco ones) aren't going to cut it. I'm willing to spend a little money on a good pair of gloves for her to wear, but I'm not sure where to start. What brands are good?
  5. My mom was helpful with all my babies. She came and stayed a few days with us after my first was born. When my 4th was born, we lived down the street from my parents. Their kitchen was being remodeled, so my mom came and cooked dinner for all of us every night in my kitchen. It was awesome. My MIL was helpful too, mostly with the older kids. In retrospect, I think she was really afraid of stepping on my toes and probably wanted to be invited in a little more but I just didn't realize it at the time.
  6. I get junk mail for a woman at my address. The weird thing is we built this house and the address literally didn’t exist before that.
  7. I have a gas range (burners and oven are gas) and an electric wall oven with a microwave above it. I wanted two ovens, but a double wall oven would have made the microwave sit too high.
  8. If she’s not in a place for wise decisions, Do. Not. Buy. Her. A. Smartphone. Your job is to keep her safe. So what if she wants to go swimming and shark infested waters? That doesn’t mean you have to let her. I agree that a smart phone is nice and almost necessary in this world, but not for a 14-year-old with attitude problems. This is not the solution to your problems.
  9. The dangers are real. A kid with a smartphone, especially an angry 14 yo girl, needs to be kept safe from dangers on the internet. That means you need to be involved in this. People on this thread have told you that over and over again. If you're really going to buy her a smartphone (and frankly, I wouldn't, after what I've read here. The school can pound sand. Your furious daughter can pound sand), you need to learn this and be involved. You have a responsibility to learn this and keep her safe. What are you going to do about social media? Cyberbullying? Meeting strange guys on the internet? Does she know how to keep her private information safe? Do you trust her not to share the family address or phone numbers with anyone who asks? What about data tracking? What about spyware that masquerades as apps and games on social media? I could go on and on. If you give her a smartphone without being aware of how to use one yourself, it's like throwing her into shark-infested waters.
  10. https://aberrantcrochet.com/2014/11/26/tape-ball-candy-ball-a-hilariously-simple-game-for-groups/#:~:text=The basic idea is that, noise helps with the game.

  12. I'd never heard of BFE either and I grew up in CA. I did know about Netflix and Chill.
  13. Can you double the white chili and freeze half? My white chili recipe freezes beautifully.
  14. Pull out the dryer and unscrew the hose where it vents into the wall. I bet it's full of lint. It might solve your drying issue to clean that out.
  15. I'm so sorry. That's a scary place to be. I hope things turn around quickly.
  16. Update: it actually does! I didn’t know it but it was right there next to my USB ports.
  17. I don't think so. I'm pretty sure my 2019 Odyssey doesn't have one.
