  1. After fussing and fighting and getting completely undone, DH finally was able to walk me through a few things. It was a virus, and we re-imaged the drive with the back up I'd done last month. I've lost a month's worth of files, but that's fixable - most everything is in the Cloud somewhere. Thank you again Lanny for keeping me sane and walking me through some solutions. You really did help.
  2. Yes! Thank you! It was bugging me. I went to school nearby and only heard about it all. The. Time. :)
  3. Triplets!! My DD is the same. She is a night owl, just like her daddy, and cannot wind down easily. I've also resorted to music to tame the savage beast, errr, daughter. She goes to B&M school so we have a hard deadline for getting up an out in the am but nights are still impossible. OP, I agree the screen time is probably not helping. I'd do one on one with DS while DD slept, if that's what you want her to do, then breakfast, then group school. Play later.
  4. It's Windows 7. I don't have any installation disks (of course). Thank you so much for trying to help. At this point I need to find a repair place I believe.
  5. Where in Turkey? Incirlik? I'm in Izmir.
  6. I had five cats at one time. It is a LOT of work, smell, expense, and time to manage more than two (I went from one to two to three to five fairly quickly - castoffs from others that I couldn't turn down). And when the three old ladies started getting really old it was very hard. One or more was peeing all over my oriental rug in the living room and I couldn't determine who, so it was three vet visits, three bills, and three answers of "she's just getting old". When the time came to put them down (old, nearly blind, incontinent and arthritic), it happened all at once. That was horribly hard. Then one of the youngsters got horribly ill and died too. In one month I lost four cats. I had five litter boxes. FIVE. Shudder.... I read somewhere that cats have a hard time getting along if they have less than 500 sq. ft. per cat of space. I found that to be true as a general guideline, especially if they aren't litter mates. We have two now. I will not add to that ever. Get the mama and one kitten.
  7. I love Manassas, Mariner's Museum, VA Living Museum. You HAVE to go to Mt. Vernon! Pohick/Lorton is good, ESP. Since you get to meet Chris in VA! Down near Harrisonburg is a Civil War site where all the boys from a nearby military school went out and fought and lost their shoes in the mud. Can't remember the name though. Why can't I remember its name?!
  8. I'm so sorry you all are having to go through this. Praying she's seizure free until Monday. The only thing that might help with an admit is you might get to see the neurologist faster (instead of waiting for an appointment). But I understand **completely** not wanting to go that route. Praying for you all.
  9. If I only had a clue where to take it for repair... ETA: I am working on finding a repair place. It's just not as straightforward as in the US.
  10. I'm on my iPad. The computer will no longer boot. I'm trying to boot in "safe mode" and it won't. I'm in an infinite loop of safe mode, startup repair, fail, reboot, safe mode, startup repair.... Since the computer won't even boot, I can't install any of your recommended fixes. It's not overheating. I've turned it off several times over the past couple of days and let it rest, to no avail. I still can't believe a stupid flash drive did this.
  11. Not that I ever remember things like this when it's happening, but you could say something along the lines of "We'll, that was helpful. Thank you for such a positive and encouraging comment." She won't even know what hit her.
  12. Me too. Especially when she's in rare form. Makes her laugh which breaks the tension.
  13. While all y'all have been wallowing and delving into 1Q84 and other masterpieces, I have read.... The Writing Road to Reading Sigh......
  14. WRTR phonograms and (hopefully) reading, spelling MEP Reception and counting Probably a unit study on sea creatures or birds Life skills: buttons, zippers, manners. We've been a little too lax of late. I want her reading by fall and solid on her numbers. She's struggling right now and just doesn't get it for some reason. Just waiting on the blasted Cuisenaire rods to be delivered! She's likely repeating K next year in her B&M school. I'm good with this because, if all works, I'll be working ahead of school at home instead of even or behind. I want to start 1st grade at home in the fall.
  15. The Arlington Book Fair is ginormous and has a good mix of vendors and speakers. I think they don't allow strollers or rolling carts in the vendor hall, IIRC. It's THAT big and crowded. They will check packages for you, and carry them to your car if you drive up to the building, I think. I'm going to miss it this year! Boo!!
  16. Well, now I feel bad I rsvp'd before the invitations were sent! In my defense, I had just spoken to the bride on the phone, at length, about the wedding, logistics, etc., and the RSVP system was online. The wedding is in a different country and I needed to confirm things to make plans. She has an interesting way of handling kids. They are welcome at the ceremony and champagne reception immediately after (morning) but she's having an adults-only dinner later that evening. There just isn't space for the kids and quite frankly they'd be bored. Babysitting is available at the hotel where the event is, and we've booked our room there as well to keep things simple. I have a ginormous family like Julie Smith above and eloped just to avoid the same issues!
  17. North and west of the (very pricey) Preston Hollow area are some neighborhoods with older, more reasonably priced houses. It's convenient to Love Field, shopping, ok schools (nothing in Dallas is great), and a load of private schools. You might look there. Some pockets are good, some are not, some are gems in hiding.
  18. I've texted him that very question, but he's so busy right now that I can't get his attention. He was at the lab all night long. I'm just so upset because this is money I don't want to spend right now. Computers are so expensive here that we often import them in our carry on for family. No one is coming for at least two months, so I may have to buy one if this can't be fixed. I'm so angry. It was a brand new flash drive in it's original packaging. Now my computer doesn't even recognize the USB ports, so no printer. Plus it just randomly freezes or crashes.
  19. Right after I buy a bunch of downloaded curricula and before I got the chance to back it up. I inserted a brand new flash drive into it to copy some files and all h-e-double-toothpicks broke loose. I've been fighting with it for two days and it's just getting worse. I think the drivers on the drive were at best corrupted, at worst contained a virus. I don't know what to do. DH (the computer programmer) is in the US, I'm in Turkey. There is no Geek Squad here. I have a backup from about two weeks ago, so at least most of my stuff is safe, but what do I do about the blasted computer?! Just venting.....
