  1. Hi mamas, My sons are going to grade 8. I am getting their next year's schedule together. Here is what I have so far. 1. AOPS Geometry and Intermediate Algebra 2. Prentice Hall Biology ( is there a better biology program ?) 3. World History ( Early to mid) ( still haven't decided on the books) 4. They are also taking Spanish lessons here locally. One thing I cannot figure out is LA and writing. They have done NHD this year. So, they wrote process paper. I read a few times on this board about one essay a week programs. I am looking at essay writing, writing scientific papers, book reports - any and every kind of writing. I really want to drill that in this year. So, they can be ready for high school ( and college) Can you please direct me toward the one essay a week programs ?What is a good one ? Thanks Zilya
  2. Hi, I am new to homeschooling. My kids went to public school for the elementary school. What books do you use to teach middle school History and Language Arts, Grammar etc ? thanks
  3. What do you follow in the early elementary ?
  4. Kids DS 8,8 and DD6 are going to school now. But next year I am thinking of homeschooling them. I am trying to gather information at this point. One of the biggest worries about homeschooling at this point is writing. I keep reading that homeschooler kids are weak in their writing compared to kids who goto school. Is that true ? What is a good curriculum for writing ? Right now, the boys are learning grammar, comprehension, spelling etc at school and I don't see a whole lot of writing going on at school either. I am a bit scared that I might not be able to do a good job for their language arts. I feel teaching science and Math is easy. Right now in math, they are doing SM 4A/4B and I will just continue with 5a/5b next year .. and maybe introduce them with AOSP etc. Science, I don't know, maybe get a few science kits ? I don't know about Geography/social studies either. But the biggest worry for me is the writing and language arts. What do you guys follow ? Are you kids good writers ? thanks
  5. Ah.. Thanks for all the replies. DS is 8. He is leaning SM 4A/4B at school this year. From next year I am thinking of homeschooling but that's a different story. He is falling behind and I need to do something about it. I will look into both LOF and MM fractions. Thanks
  6. My son is doing 4A/4B in SM and he is struggling with fractions. I think he gets it and doesn't get it. Is LOF a better curr for fractions ? Should i supplement with LOF ? thanks
  7. DS6 is very bad in spelling. I am looking ways to improve his spelling. I thought I can use a software/game that might get him interested in spelling. Anyone use any ? thanks
