  1. :iagree: You LOVE your kids...that's what matters the most to them and what teaches them the most too!!
  2. Maybe a dermatologist could help...is it a fungal issue? Perhaps a yeast issue?
  3. Since you use radiated heat, what do you use HEPA filters on? I am considering an electrostatic filter for our furnace/ A/C. Do you use them on air purifiers? I want to get a high quality one for the bedroom.
  4. I did start showers at night...I have a neti pot somewhere but haven't used it in awhile. I just switched to zyrtec too, but can't take it when I do the drops. I hope you find relief as well!!
  5. We haven't had ducts cleaned...I had several people tell me it doesn't really make a difference. Did it make a difference in your house? Yeah, i just started sublingual drops instead of shots. I don't know that they are as effective as they haven't been used as long...but I'm in the same boat and it will take a long while before we know if it works. I hope your son finds relief too!!
  6. I just started sublingual drops instead of shots. Not sure if drops are as effective as shots, but I can do them at home. I hate to think it will take a year or more for effect! I have switched to OTC zyrtec, but I can't take anything 24 hrs before or after the drops. :(
  7. Another poster mentioned NAET. I will definitely look into this. I have heard of it somewhere but never really read into it. At this point, I guess it can not hurt to try it. If it works..well that would be wonderful! :001_smile: Thanks for the book recommendation too. I tried to follow Nourishing Traditions awhile back, but found it hard to put into practice. I also cannot handle any milk, and that includes raw milk. I did make butter and cheese, but it was a lot of work for not sure how much benefit. I made my own stocks, and then would freeze them and forget I had them! :tongue_smilie: I need something a little more practical for my life right now, so maybe the Francis book will have some easier to implement changes. Thanks!!
  8. I have gone off and on..thanks for reminding to go back! If anything, it does make my neck and back feel better! :001_smile:
  9. I've had lots of allergy testing. As for environmental allergies, I'm allergic to everything...I got high positives on all the grasses, molds, weeds, trees, dust mites, and even yeast. I think the only way I can eliminate my exposure is to live in a plastic hypoallerginic bubble. :tongue_smilie: This most recent testing was done by a new ENT I went to for sinus issues. I also have been to multiple allergists, as I also have food allergies and EE. I just started allergy drops in hopes that eventually they will work and desensitize me. :001_huh: In the meantime, I am trying to figure out what I can do to make it less allergy producing in the house. We did replace the living/ dining, hall carpeting. However, I want to remove the bedroom carpet and replace w/ something hard. Of course, looking at all the junk in the bedroom I see some de-cluttering is definitely in order. I'm re-thinking all our bedding too. Other than that, I was thinking about air quality and how to improve it, but I have had friends say duct cleaning is a scam or not helpful at least...so I'm wondering about electrostatic filters now. So anyone w/ extreme allergies made an extreme home makeover?? Not sure what else I can do?
  10. I am curious, is this something you do once you've had a few years of homeschool under your belt? I can't imagine knowing exactly what curriculum I will be using for each child years down the road. I have only homeschooled this year. I feel I am still trying to figure out my kids learning styles as well as my own teaching style. I have researched tons of curriculum but only tried a few, so how can I know what will work down the road?
  11. We just had our A/C checked, and the company offers electrostatic filters, air duct cleaning, and indoor air quality testing. Just wondering if anyone has had any of the above? It is expensive so want to check it out first. Thanks!
  12. This has been our first year of homeschool. It's been a rough year too. My oldest 2 have had 4 and 5 years of private school, and my 3rd child has had public and private. The 3rd child has repeatedly begged to never go back to public or private school. He refers to all schools as prison. He is also my ADHD child, so that makes total sense! My oldest 2 have had mixed feelings about homeschool. On one hand they miss friends from school, and I think they miss the structure it provided at times (sometimes they appreciate the flexibility of homeschool). My dd is a real social butterfly. She is not really happy unless in a group of other kids, especially girls (she has 3 bros). We attend a co-op once a week, and I think that is the one day a week she lives for. However, she also sees some downside of going to "school". I still think she'd be pretty happy going to school instead of homeschool. Both of the olders have told me they have found it much easier to make friends as homeschoolers. I found this surprising, as I thought being home would make that harder. Our co-op has made it possible for them to meet lots of kids of all ages and make new friends. We also began attending a new church that has a great mix of homeschoolers, private and public school kids. One pleasant change I have seen in attitudes is in my oldest son. He was a "private school snob" since that is all he knew. When we started homeschooling he kept an attitude that public school was very inferior. Now he sees there are many options for a great education, and there is no "right" or better one. We stress that public school is also an option to be respected, just like private and homeschool. I didn't want my kids to go from private school snob to homeschool snob! I'm fine w/ my kids not being crazy in love w/ homeschooling. I have found it hard myself to adjust, so I have to give them the time to do the same. We'll see how it "grows" on us after another year under our belt. I expect the growing pains will make our relationships better in the end.
  13. I just found out about square foot gardening and am excited to try. I have never gardened before, so I hope it's not complicated. We need to get started! Is the time to plant already past? So glad to find this thread and will have to search for the original. :001_smile: Thanks!
  14. Now I'm going to have to ask my dermatologist about laser "down there"! :tongue_smilie: I've never done waxing for any area other than eyebrows (when I did the lady ripped some skin off too). So too scared to go brazil. I'm a mutt...my mom of dutch descent w/ white blond hair on her head, and just about none anywhere else, but my dad is of puerto rican descent...so I have "ethnic hair" issues. My skin is so delicate and sensitive (like mom's), so even shaving is painful. But I hate being hairy. I've been doing laser for underarms so I wonder how it could work for the other? I've got resilient Puerto Rican hair though! :glare: Would love to be hair free...you got me wondering now!! :D

  16. Thank you for the recommendations and advice! A good air purifier is top on my list...and maybe I can get dh to agree to remove carpet from the bedroom. It's just such a big expense to replace with hard floors. I don't know how to deal w/ mold growth around our home. Our yard is a swamp at the moment thanks to the non-stop rain. We live in an area just not allergy friendly. Maybe some trees could be planted to suck up water, but I'm likely allergic to them too. :tongue_smilie: Thank you!!
  17. I am highly allergic to basically everything. I am looking for any advice/ recommendations on changes I can make (besides ripping up carpet or encasing my mattress in plastic). How can I live w/ carpet and fabrics? We have no pets, a tempurpedic mattress, and probably need to change some pillows or something. Does anyone have an air purifier that works wonders? Has anyone had their air ducts cleaned and had improvement? I just started sublingual allergy drops, but that will take awhile to show any improvement if it even works. I take 5mg of clarinex and nasonex daily. I live in the allergy capital...help! TIA!
  18. :bigear: I was looking at ProClick too, so wondering what ya'll think. I know nothing about "wire binding" machines.
  19. I'll add that my kids Latin tutor recommended they continue English grammar...even after all they have already had and all the Latin they have had. Hope you find what works best for your daughter.
  20. I have a son that never fails to embarrass...and I mean it is always big time. So I'll share one... when standing in line at the YMCA to get checked in, an elderly gentleman came up behind us and started to talk very kindly to my 2 younger boys. He said something alone the lines of "Hi there! How are you?" I can't really remember since the first thing out of my son's mouth was...MAN ARE YOUR TEETH YELLOW!!! BOY ARE THEY OLD AND UGLY!!! He was just a nice old man, really didn't deserve the insult and critique of his teeth. I was horrified. Later, my dh took said son around the Y looking for the man so he could apologize. We were all too shocked to do anything right when it happened and the gentleman quickly excused himself after it happened. They never found him. Oh, it was awful. I could probably recount dozens more regarding this child that has no filter between his brain and his mouth...but that would just be too depressing for me!! :tongue_smilie:
  21. This is an older thread, but signing in from Ohio. Cincinnati area. :001_smile:
  22. Adding my name to the "Cincinnati" list. Hello my fellow Cincinnatians! We're on the east side. :001_smile:
  23. My 2 olders had extensive english grammar by grade 4 (more than most high schoolers). They went to a private classical school. They started Latin in grade 4. If they had not had the strong English grammar, they would not have been able to handle Latin as well as they have. So it has been our experience that English grammar is a necessary foundation for Latin. Now my oldest age 12 is getting ready to start high school Latin. My 10 year old is doing Latin at a 7th/8th grade level. (and just to clarify, I don't teach Latin or know Latin -- so I would not call myself a Latin or language expert, this has just been our experience.) HTH.
