Have not read all the responses, but if she’s interested in hiking year round, a pair of spikes that go over her boots would be nice. We use them all the time, on flat and steep hikes, in the winter. Also, a foldable silicone water bowl for her pup if she doesn’t have one.

s/o Text/other communication between parents of dating couple
whitestavern replied to marbel's topic in The Chat Board
I communicate via text with both my daughter’s bf and his mother. We all met at a dinner halfway between where we live (about 3 hours apart) a few years ago. D is 23 and has been dating him for 4 years. They spent the past two Thanksgiving’s with us (they stayed at a hotel but joined us for dinner and breakfast the following am). I think circumstances might be different if it were my son and gf. -
The Thanksgiving Kitchen -- post your winners and losers
whitestavern replied to Halftime Hope's topic in The Chat Board
Almost all winners here. One epic fail. Black pepper Asiago popovers. Recipe only made 3(!) though it was supposed to make a dozen. And they were not popover like at all. Heavy and dense. I was about to make a new batch and decided I didn’t need the stress. They weren’t missed at all. -
I had the same question a few years back and googled how to prepare. I found a recipe for roasting them. They tasted just like roasted potatoes!

Tried and true method to clean a Le Creuset
whitestavern replied to footballmom's topic in The Chat Board
I wouldn’t. As long as it’s smooth and not caked with burnt food, it’s beautifully seasoned! -
What has worked for your dog that eats super fast?
whitestavern replied to mommyoffive's topic in The Chat Board
Yes to the slow feeder! We have a Dane who gulps it down. This dish slows him by 3x. -
Who has TIME for those kinds of projects?!

I’m so sorry 😞

So….what is on your menu for Thanksgiving?
whitestavern replied to Indigo Blue's topic in The Chat Board
Apps/signature cocktail Turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, butternut squash casserole, carrots, fresh cranberry sauce, Brussels sprouts, cippolini onions, rolls or biscuits. Pies: apple, pecan, pumpkin. Considering a chocolate pear tart. -
How are you going with Christmas shopping?
whitestavern replied to bookbard's topic in The Chat Board
Not good 😂 I have one gift purchased. I did buy 4 advent calendars for my immediate family that I will distribute at Thanksgiving. -
s/o When did Matching Chiristmas Pajamas Become a Thing?
whitestavern replied to fairfarmhand's topic in The Chat Board
Yes, ever since I can remember (born late 60s) though our family never has. -
So hard to choose! Halloween is about the only time we ever eat candy, so I get the big assorted bag because it’s hard to choose (note that we do not get trick or treaters 😂) If I had to choose it would probably be almond joy and mounds. Though Twix and Reese’s are yummy too.

Not everyone gets a rash and ticks are everywhere. Personally I would insist on a western blot test. I’ve seen too many people go undiagnosed and suffering from serious long term/permanent damage.

Eddie Bauer has great lightweight down coats. Very warm but not bulky.

I have visited: Acadia - winner for sheer beauty. It’s the only NP in our region. We love it and visit yearly. The hiking is just amazing. Shenandoah Yellowstone - so varied and so much to do and see Mesa Verde - winner for most interesting. The drive in - just wow. Not for the faint of heart. Bryce Canyon Zion Capital Reef - felt like being on a movie set Great Sand Dunes - very different but fun Arches Petrified Forest/Painted Desert Grand Canyon - once is enough but a must do. Impossible to describe Wind Cave - most unusual Rocky Mountain

Recipes needed—almond flour, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds
whitestavern replied to kbutton's topic in The Chat Board
Here’s a recipe for breakfast cookies with almond flour. You could easily swap in molasses as the sweetener. For sesame seeds, they’re good on seared tuna and baked or sautéed salmon I use sunflower seeds on salad or in homemade granola -
Thank you!! He’s 17 months. He’s on the smaller side, about 123 pounds. I don’t think he’ll get much bigger.

We literally just adopted one. Dh grew up with them and I always said I’d never get one. Famous last words 😂 They are extremely loving and just want to be with you all the time. They think they’re lap dogs. They’re pretty low energy. Ours is an older puppy and still fairly chill. They drool and drip water so I have junky towels in my kitchen and family room and catch them when I can. They eat a lot. Ours consumes 8 cups a day. They’re v majestic looking and everyone wants to stop and chat when you’re out walking. He doesn’t really seem bigger than our last two medium sized dogs (one Pyrenees and one Vizsla mix) until you’re around other medium sized dogs. If you have a good sized yard I’d go for it. I have no regrets.

Best small pet--guinea pigs? Bunnies? Ferrets? Or...?
whitestavern replied to Harriet Vane's topic in The Chat Board
We adopted a beardie years ago, and I really love him. Definitely not a pet I ever would have considered but we were babysitting and then the person had to get rid of him so… they are super easy and inexpensive to care for and really do have personalities. -

Italy--Cinque Terre, Turin, norther Italy in April
whitestavern replied to Ottakee's topic in The Chat Board
We loved Cinque Terre!! And hiked the NP that travels from village to village. It was more strenuous than we thought it would be! But it was very hot and we hiked through 4 in one day. Our favorite village, and where we stayed, was Vernazza. But they are all charming.
