  1. :grouphug: to you and to your daughter. My life has been riddled with horrible experiences with Christians, many quite recently, and all that I can say beside how sorry I am for all of you is that she must come to the place where she realizes that it is people who have failed her, not God. (Maybe she already has.) Even as an adult, this has been difficult for me to realize given what has transpired in my family's life. I hope and pray that she will be renewed in her faith in Him whether or not she chooses to believe in "christians" again. Personally, I deeply understand your heartbreak, and when I hear people proclaim themselves as "christians" they are (sadly) immediately suspect in my estimation.
  2. There is nothing selfish about your sorrow. Others losses don't negate yours in any way. You have been through hell, and you need a break from it. I don't understand the hell you have been living through, but I understand sorrow and grief that just seem to compound as days go by and a future that seems bleak. I wish there were a way to end all the senseless suffering people are forced to endure in this life. All I can offer is a :grouphug: and prayers for you.
  3. :grouphug: I am sorry you are having such a hard time. As some others have said, I can relate to the "How did I get here" questions with all of the changes in my life the past several years. Life can be cruel; for some people it is much more harsh than it is for others. I will pray that God meets all of your needs in the place where you are today.
  4. If people are asking for information about curricula I have used or courses that my children have taken, I reply with that relevant information. I typically avoid specific conversations on boards or IRL regarding what my children do with reference to their ages. In my experience, it often devolves into diatribes. As I have told my children, I have more than enough battles to fight and problems to address these days. ;)
  5. Wonderful news! I will never forget finding out about twins! I will pray for a healthy unremarkable pregnancy (beside what you have already endured).
  6. I have been quite satisfied with the rigor, class management, and personality dynamic at Lukeion. They achieve a balance there that I have not experienced with other online options.
  7. I cannot contrast the two, but Lukeion has provided outstanding Greek instruction. My daughter thoroughly enjoys Mr. Barr's class and likes him tremendously.
  8. My current approach is to simply state their age and the corresponding grade level. I am fortunate to have found online and class coop opportunities for my children compatible with their ability levels. The difficulty for us has not been with the adults administering the programs but rather the significantly older students, some of whom are intimidated by the presence of younger people in their classes.
  9. We just celebrated his one year anniversary of being cancer free. They just found a spot on his x rays on his hip. Please pray that this is not cancer. This precious little boy has been through so much, and we all desperately want him to be well. From the depths of my heart I beg you to please pray that this little boy does not have cancer again.
  10. That is correct. You don't need both. The MODG syllabus is great also, providing quizzes, tests, and drill sheets in addition to the course of study.
  11. The Form series by Memoria Press is outstanding.
  12. Eldest DD has used Henle and Wheelock and has now moved beyond to translation/written work. She is rather young but excelled at both. I personally think Henle is a solid program on a high school level. It cannot compare to the depth and rigor of a college text like Wheelock, but no high school text is likely going to in any academic discipline . Since I began with my daughter when she was quite young, Wheelock would have been too daunting. As it is, she quickly progressed through Wheelock independently after completing Henle I prior to middle school age. That in itself commends Henle to me for future studies with my younger two. If a parent knows Latin, then either of these programs can be tweaked at the middle school level with a student who has solid grounding in grammar. I always hesitate to post about Latin because mine have studied it at quite young ages, and I know everyone has different goals and objectives. That being said, either of these programs can work with middle school students.
  13. This is among my all time favorite quotes!
