  1. I'm not sure, I always assumed they went south but don't know. We just never had them here past mid-October. We have had at least two mating pairs in our birdhouses for the last 4 or 5 years. They are usually gone before it's getting cold. ETA: We do have some birds that stay all year round. Blue Jays and Cardinals are always here, lots of sparrows and grackles are still here.
  2. Today was much better. I bought the stick-on head pads so I could have it on my back at work, I had my normal morning tea and breakfast, classes went well. Although I did accidently give the wrong lecture in one class. Nobody noticed and it didn't effect the lab but it was still an oopsie. The rain has started here. A bunch of stuff closed early, all kinds of afterschool programs were cancelled, schools are already calling delayed openings for tomorrow. Evidently it's supposed to be really bad and they expect widespread flooding and trees down and power outages. So I guess we'll see how tonight goes.
  3. We have a couple bluebirds that are still hanging out in our backyard which is very unusual. They should be long gone by this point. They are acting like its Spring and checking out the bird houses where we've had nests the past few years. It's really strange. And I just read an article about a particular species of very large spider that is moving North and will be here soon, plus mosquito-borne diseases are expected to become more widespread as they are able to survive farther North for longer seasons.
  4. Phy Ed is mandatory in NJ so gym every day of the week, recess every day, I walked to school about 1 mile in 6th grade, just short of 2 miles in 7th grade. I also played street hockey on roller skates a lot, and just ran around the neighborhood. Would walk to stores and the library (about 3 miles) all the time.
  5. Today sucked. I pulled the muscle in my back (AGAIN) on Sunday, but with lots of heat felt okay this morning. I went at 8:30 to get fasting bloodwork done figuring I'd go back home to eat breakfast, have my tea and take my prednisone. But was running a little late since there was two inches of ice on my windshield that still wasn't coming off after running the car for 15 minutes. Couldn't find an ice scraper so used a plastic box lid but then found some windshield deicer spray and that helped. But then one of my teacher's called out because her daughter was sick so instead of not needing to be in until 11 (although I would have tried to get there earlier), I had to be in by 9:15am. So ended up quickly eating a sandwich in the car on the way in to work after my bloodwork, then taking my prednisone at work. No tea, no caffeine which led to a headache. Then hurrying to set up, pulled my back and made it even worse than it was on Sunday. So back pain, headache, stomach icky from prednisone, can only take small amounts of advil and only hours after taking prednisone (doctor okay if its on full stomach, lots of water and hours later). Loooong day. Now I'm sitting on the couch finally having taken some advil with a heatpad on. Tomorrow has to be better.
  6. My mother was big on no preservatives, no artificial colors or flavors or anything in an attempt to help my brothers adhd. Plus we were pretty much poverty level at that age so few treats. Mom cooked from scratch, homemade chili, eggrolls stuffed with vegetables, etc. Lunches were generally sandwiches, on wheat bread. Peanut butter and jelly, tuna fish (for my brother, I can't stand tuna fish). School lunches in middle school would be sub sandwiches or pizza usually.
  7. Here too. Feels like the flooding just went down from the last storms a week or so ago and now here we go again. We live on a river so it's really easy to see the effects of the flooding when the river comes up to my neighbors back deck instead of being 100 yards away.
  8. So is this a better way to take calcium/D than just together with the multi? I take them all together in the morning. I keep trying to look up things about best timing but it's hard to get a straight answer.
  9. We currently have about 5-6 inches. It was actually still coming down pretty well. An hour or so ago it was a bunch of large fluffy flakes, now it's finer and misty but still coming down pretty steady. I would say we'll finish up with 7-8 inches. It doesn't seem icy at all, temperatures are around 34 degrees so not super cold. It looks really pretty for right now. Tomorrow it will be in the 40's so will melt, just to freeze when it's in the 20's overnight, just to all melt into mud on Tuesday when we get massive amounts of rain. Super fun.
  10. I'm back to work tomorrow so this weekend is all about getting ready for classes. I'm hoping to have everything set up for the next three weeks, which is when we have another break. But right now we have registration for our next session going, plus getting summer camp schedules set up, plus working on next year's schedule, plus we're doing an open house in a couple weeks, plus I have all these doctor appointments. This is easily my busiest time of year.
  11. Morning Happy Sunday. I woke up with really bad acid reflux at 3am, probably due to the prednisone I'm on, and sat on the couch trying to doze until 5am when I went back to bed and slept until almost 10am. Then one little twist and I pulled that darn muscle in my back again so I'm sitting with a heatpad again.
  12. We have about 5-6 inches and it's still coming down but slowly so it appears to be tapering off. We will probably have a total of 7-8 inches. It's pretty but combined with the rain on Tuesday is going to make things very muddy.
  13. We have about 3 inches so far and it's still coming down. We're right on the border between a 3-6" band and a 6-8" band so who knows what we'll actually get. We're on the side of a mountain on a river so we sometimes have a mini system of our own going. We are also supposed to get the rain Tuesday, which I'm sure will cause the river to flood again.
  14. For right now she's okay with it, but said to watch carefully for any signs of things changing before my CT scan. Taking it once a day is enough for it to help all day so I'm taking fairly low doses (with food, lots of fluids, etc). Unfortunately Tylenol didn't even touch the pain and I can't take most other painkillers.
  15. I know he didn't wind up in Tartarus with the other Titans, but yeah he seems to just fade away. He was hanging with the Gods on Olympus so maybe he still wherever they are. They didn't really go anywhere either.
  16. Hercules/Heracles freed him from getting his liver eaten every day but I don't remember any myths going into what happened to him after that.
  17. We use Earth Breeze ones. They seem to work well and get out smells and dirt. And we have teenage boy stink here, as well as towels from the science center that will have all kinds of weird crap on them. Although I do sometimes put a little bleach in with those loads. We always use at least a full sheet, I never cut them in half but we generally only do full loads in a large front loader. Their better environmentally, take up less space and are easy to use.
  18. NP visit went okay. (side note an MD is called a Dr. is there a title for a NP?) Slight sinus arrhythmia on EKG so she wants me to see a cardiologist just to make sure its not something to be worried about. Going for a CT scan for stomach pain/cramping. Prednisone for a pain in leg that's likely inflamed/pinched nerve. Monday I'm going in for bloodwork because she noticed my thyroid levels have been increasing in the past few years. Plus the usual checks like cholesterol. Evidently my previous doctor wasn't following up on things that should have been followed up on, like the thyroid, cholesterol, glucose, etc. My previous doctor refused to check AIC and insisted insurance wouldn't cover it, which isn't true. We're getting a bunch of snow tomorrow. We're on the border between a 3-5 and a 6-8 inch band.
  19. Thank you for asking. I went to the doctor today and I'm getting a CT scan next week. She feels it could be diverticulitis but wants to check for other possibilities as well due to the location. Achiness is about the same but helped by Advil and movement so still bearable. I am eating lighter/blander/softer in the meantime.
  20. We're dealing with a similar dynamic here. Dh is also 67 but I'm 13 years younger. He's been amazingly healthy until the past year, when health issues started coming up. Now he feels like he's weaker, gets out of breath easy but doesn't realize he's way ahead of most people his age, including most of his friends. Luckily he is good about going to the doctor and keeping on top of things. You guys are way more on top of things then we are. I do know about all our finances, etc and could handle all of that, our house is very accessible and "age in place" appropriate. We do have life insurance and things set up just in case, but we also have kids still at home, although they are older teens. I'm struggling a little with how to help dh navigate his feelings. His parents both passed in the upper 80's so he doesn't have that pressure, but he's always been strong and energetic, and he's definitely feeling the change.
  21. Good Morning, Happy Friday! I went for my massage yesterday. Dh had gotten me a gift card for a local spa for Christmas. It was amazing. So relaxing, and I'm someone introverted enough to hate the beauty parlor enough to cut my own hair. The masseuse was very sweet, the table was heated, hot moist towels on my back, it was just so wonderful. I need to do it more often but it was fairly $$$ so probably not. Today I go to my new NP for my first visit. I've been having a few issues lately that I'm hoping can be addressed. I'm getting a pain in the side of my leg, and cramping in my stomach and back fairly frequently in the past few months.
  22. Thank you for replying. I'm going to try and do liquids and some soft foods considered good for diverticulitis for the rest of today and tomorrow and see if it helps. I will definitely mention it to my doctor Friday. I'm in a pretty big metro area so should be able to find a decent GI if needed. Scarlett - pain is fairly centered but somewhat to the left.
  23. I'm going to apologize for hijacking Scarlett's thread, but I'm wondering if I may be dealing with diverticulitis myself. I've had lower abdominal cramping off and on since around Thanksgiving. I've basically put it down to eating somewhat unusual foods, more junk than usual, etc. I do have Benefiber in my tea each morning, plus have a fairly high fiber diet and generally things move along fairly well and regularly (sorry TMI). It's been more achy and uncomfortable than painful - enough to keep me from sleeping well but not enough to stop normal activities. Advil would get rid of the pain completely. Today is the worse day I've had, enough so I don't want to do anything, but still pain level is probably only a 5 or so (bearable), although Advil doesn't seem to be helping as much today. I had popcorn last night which I know is not good for diverticulitis, but I didn't really think about that until late last night. I had my first colonoscopy earlier this year and it did say there were some diverticula in the colon, although everything else was pretty much normal. I have a doctor's appointment on Friday afternoon so I guess I'm asking if this sounds like it could be diverticulitis and if I wait until Friday to see the doctor (it doesn't seem ER or urgent care level of pain), what is likely to help? Sounds like liquids? Clear only? Soft foods okay? Thank you
  24. Morning, Happy Tuesday. I'm off all week but today is the last day my schedule is completely open until the weekend so the last day to finish up some stuff at work. Tomorrow I meet with my admin to go over the database she put together for me to track registrations better, and I told dd we could go to the mall in the afternoon. She has Christmas money to spend. Thursday I'm getting my massage, dh got me a gift card for Christmas. Friday I have an appointment with a new doctor, actually a NP, for a physical.
  25. Happy New Year. I don't have laundry to fold but I have laundry to put away. Dh finished painting our kitchen this weekend and finally put up a bunch of decorations we have. It's very fishing themed, but the kitchen is definitely dh's territory. Plus I do like it. It looks nice. We're hoping to keep the breakfast bar in front of the windows cleaned off a little better so I can use part of it as a desk, plus have the under desk stepper underneath and get back to doing that in the morning while using my happy light. I accomplished a lot at work but still have more to do (as always).
