  1. I've never had a job do drug testing once hired. I've had a few - both white and blue collar/retail jobs - that did drug testing for hiring. When I worked at Sam's Club, if you were injured on the job you had to go for a drug test within 24 hours or you were automatically fired.
  2. I'm answering without reading the other responses so if the conversation has shifted this may make no sense. IF it's a state where use is legal and IF they said a positive result "for illegal use" would result in termination - I don't think it would be a fireable offence. No different than if the person was out drinking on Friday or Saturday night. IMO.
  3. My mother got this call a few days ago saying it was their grandson needing bail money in Canada. The only grandson they see/talk to regularly is 8 years old. I don't think so.
  4. My daughter works for Target. She was also offered positions at Deb, Victoria's Secret, Michael's, and one other smaller mall shop. Only Target was able to give her the flexibility she needed with school. A larger store will be much easier to get days off, most of the smaller stores would only give days off if you find your own coverage.
  5. This is going to sound silly, but it never occurred to me that the "sink" doesn't have to be "the sink". Part of what's been holding me up on returning to Flylady is the idea that the shiny sink is most important. But, doing the dishes is one of the few things dh has started doing since I returned to work. He always did all the cooking, but now he does the dishes too. Problem is, he does them first thing in the morning. So, I can't really shine the sink at night without doing the dishes. And I already do the laundry and all the other cleaning, I'd like to leave him doing the dishes. But, I think cleaning the bathroom would be a good "sink shining" for our household. Hmmmm. LOL, that is certainly a good point. I think I'm going to revisit Flylady (but not sign up for the notifications because they annoyed me) AND Sidetracked Home Executives (I actually have the cards already made up) and maybe combine the ideas, using the index cards along with some notes/reminders in my bullet journal (which I just started). How's that for hopping on all the trends at once? :coolgleamA:
  6. Motivated Moms website is evidently down for maintenance. I'm a Flylady failure. Now that I'm back working full time, I really need to find something that will work. I hate having to spend the weekend cleaning or being too busy on the weekend and things not getting done. I might need to revisit the Sidetracked Home Executives. But they don't have an app. I like the idea of an App since I always have my phone handy. The Flylady app looks like it does too much - I don't need the whole calendar thing but maybe it's not bad to use without that stuff?
  7. I met my husband through our work bowling league. And the guys I dated before him - one was through work, one was a neighbor. I agree with a lot of what duckens said, especially the safety suggestions. It's VERY important to be very aware of safety when meeting with strangers. I did marry my husband two years after my divorce. I had NO desire to get remarried or even get serious, so he had to work at it. We were friends/acquaintances (at bowling weekly) for a year before we started dating, then first date was June, engaged September, married October (pregnant by November). We've been married 10 years this October.
  8. First, :grouphug: . Second, I agree with the bolded above. If you really are concerned about living in the city, parts of NJ are less than an hour away, either driving (depending on traffic of course) or train. I live in a very suburban/rural part of NJ and can be in the city in 45 minutes on a Mid-Town Direct train.
  9. You could always live across the river in NJ. We have NO homeschool requirements at all and there's a very active community in Essex County (GECHO). it's not a bad commute especially if you just hop the train. As expensive as NJ is, it's usually still cheaper than living in the city.
  10. We do at the dentist and use fluoride toothpaste. But there is no fluoride in our water (well) and the kids don't take any supplements with fluoride so their exposure is very limited.
  11. When we interview people through a recruiter the usual agreement is that we can not interview them, for any position, without using the recruiter, for 6 months after. Did the recruiter offer him any feedback after the interview? Did he explain to her that it seemed he was interviewing for a different position? Ask her about putting him in for the new position?
  12. That one would be awkward "One hundred fifty three and six thousand one hundred twenty three ten thousandths"? I say "point" for the decimal. Much clearer IMO. What do you do with a repeating decimal.... I have a zero in the middle of my area code. I say "oh".
  13. So, do you only photograph marriages for Christians who have weddings in a church that believes the same way you do about it? No secular weddings at the town hall, no Jewish weddings, no liberal denominations, etc.? I'm wondering if it's that important to you, can you avoid advertising to the general public and just offer your services to those you know agree with you, such as the members of your church?
  14. I think for a lot of people, agreeing with that statement doesn't necessarily mean Young EARTH. That statement just says no to evolution and that humans have only been around for 10,000 years. I think a lot of people only have a very vague idea about how long humans (of some form) have been around and may just think "Eh, 10,000 years sounds about right". I'd like to see what the other choices were.
  15. My guess is they didn't understand the question.
  16. Doesn't this go back to Mrs. Mungo (I think?) earlier in the thread when she asks why you would not then follow the beliefs of the original writers of the Old Testament for interpretation?
  17. More relevant would be how many PhD's in geology, paleontology, astronomy, meteorology, or similar fields are YE?
  18. Anyone watch the show Continuum? That's what it's about - a future with the "Corporate Congress" and everything run by corporations, including the police, government, etc.
  19. I wouldn't wear the first one - tube tops make me think of the 70's - but some of the others are really cute. I'd probably wear any of those. I'm overweight but small busted. I can go without a bra with very little bounce despite being in my 40's. If a shirt is thick enough to not show through, its very hard to tell if I"m wearing a bra (trust me, my oldest is very quick to point it out to me if she notices, LOL). I'd probably wear a strapless under a nice strapless blouse though, to give a little extra lift and maybe some padding.
  20. My daughters high school offered World Mythology as an elective (she took it, she LOVES Mythology). Her college (an extremely liberal state university) offers a ton of Mythology and Religion electives. I had World Religions and Mythology as elective options back in the 80's. NJ is barely Christian majority. It's actual Catholic majority, with None coming in second. In some counties/towns you will find very large Jewish, Muslim or Hindu populations. Maybe that's why this seems like such a foreign idea to me? My oldest was public schooled so I don't have the selection bias of homeschoolers being my core group. Although the first IRL young earthers I've met are homeschoolers, I've met far more homeschoolers who are NOT young earth. But, I also don't join groups that require a SOF. ETA: I realized the way I worded that may sound like I don't think Catholics are Christian. That is NOT my view. My mothers whole family is Catholic. But without the Catholic portion, I don't believe Christian is the majority here.
  21. I didn't like it when I had the chance to use one. I didn't like the straight down flow and I found it very difficult to rinse my hair - which is long and very thick. I just recently managed to convince dh we needed a hand-held shower head. I would have been fine with the kind that sits in a holder for regular use but he bought one where the attached head is separate from the hand-held head. Rinsing off the kids after swimming (we joined a lake this year and their nanny has a pool so they are swimming a TON) is sooooo much easier. Ds has sensory issues and water in his face doesn't go over so well. Dd has waist-length hair that's almost as thick as mine and was very difficult to rinse in the tub. Them being able to shower instead of having to take a bath is wonderful.
  22. I've only not worked full time for 8 of the past 25 years. I've had just about every major insurance company out there and I've always had birth control covered. I was on the pill from 15 to 40 years old except when pregnant for medical issues. Maybe this is a state thing? NJ also requires insurance to pay for infertility treatments.
  23. There are people in South Jersey who live at campgrounds for the season (usually $1500-$2500 for the April to September season), then move into one of the shore communities that empty out for the winter (like Ocean City) when rents are really cheap. I don't know if your in an area that would have a similar seasonal pattern but it could be an option.
  24. I"m another one who never heard of it until I started homeschooling, and couldn't believe people were serious when I first heard it (I remember a question reply about using Danny & The Dinosaur as a reading for their science program, obviously for a young child but still surprised me). But, I also grew up in a very diverse and liberal area of the country (NJ). Didn't the UK just pass a law that creationism/YE couldn't be taught in schools? Evidently there are some who were pushing for it if they bothered to pass a law, right?
  25. Depends on my mood. Chocolate cake with chocolate icing, chocolate lava cake, german chocolate cake Pumpkin pie, ice cream pie, hot apple pie with ice cream Cobbler.
