  1. Here are the algae pills we take: https://www.nordic.com/products/algae-omega/?variant=39472182919352
  2. I take algae pills. They aren't cheap, but they provide the good things without the yucky things.
  3. Amen. Women disappoint me sometimes because I expect more, but the harm women do to other women is nothing compared to the harm men do to women. I'll take disappointment over terrorism, rape, and murder any day.
  4. I can relate. I've been thinking lately about the experiences I'm willing to give up because men might brutalize me, and which ones I'm not. I love reading about adventurers, especially women, and while I don't have the personality for hardcore stuff, I have been going on some mini-adventures alone, and it is glorious. We do need situational awareness, but there is a life to be lived as well, and while I know my risk as a woman is greater, I'm sick of curtailing certain things because of it. Live is short. My dh worries but he understands and doesn't try and talk me out of it. My father (bless his heart) said after I did a one night, camping bike trip by myself, "You know that's the sort of thing people read about after something happens and think, well, yeah, a woman alone like that!" Didn't help my "woman in her 50s rage", lol!
  5. Just being in a house where someone smokes means you are going to stink like it when you leave. They can refrain from smoking while you are there and it is still hazardous and gross. That smell gets into everything.
  6. I used to eat the fortified nutritional yeast, but someone on here suggested the unfortified and you can taste the difference. I definitely prefer the unfortified.
  7. Have you tried seitan? It's high in protein and quite tasty, I think.

  9. Concussions are a problem, yes, but it's my understanding that just repetitive hits to the head can cause major issues later in life even without a concussion. It's jarring the brain around inside the skull that they think is linked to CTE, and football is a sport that does that a lot. They are papering over the problem by paying so much attention to concussions and not enough to simple blocking and tackling. If you are getting hit (not even necessarily to the head), and your brain is jiggling around, you are experiencing damage. Not to mention, pulling someone after a concussion is all well and good and better than not pulling them, but getting the concussion in the first place is a problem. Even one major concussion when young is linked to later issues.
  10. Yes, if this kid has size and talent, coaches aren't going to be content having him kick when he could be doing something even more helpful. If his talent is kicking, period, that's one thing. I agree, little risk of harm, or at least not much compared to other sports. But OP suggests he will be big and fast, which doesn't equal kicker for long, unless both kid and parents hold firm.
  11. I'd say nope. Camel's nose under the tent and all. Maybe he does just kick for awhile, but then they need someone to do this slightly more dangerous position, and then wow, he's pretty good, so do this next, and he loves it so much, and next thing you know you have a football player. Are you prepared to draw a hard line when there is enormous pressure, say in high school, by him and other parents and coaches, etc? Sliding into it that way would be hard to resist.
  12. Now you can sit in your house and spin stops! So jealous!
  13. At my kids' public university, the men wear suits to the career fair whether business or tech. Could wear pants and sport coat with tie and still fit in.
  14. This is true. Some people can, some can't. Addiction understanding has changed from the 12 Step/AA model being the only tool in the toolbox. There are options, and some people respond well to controlled drinking, even as alcoholics (as the term is currently understood).
  15. I haven't sailed them, but my parents have multiple times. They did the river cruises though. They liked Viking a lot and thought it was worth the extra money, but then they have a lot of money, lol. They tend to cruise the next level up from us. We do Royal Caribbean, and they do Viking, Oceania, and Celebrity. More expensive cruises tend to have better food, fewer kids, entertainment is more upscale (think more high brow music and less belly flop competitions), fewer people, and excursions can be included which can add up if you do ship excursions. So in deciding whether more money is worth it, you have to know what your priorities are for cruising. Do you like really good food versus decent food, is high quality entertainment important, do you prefer a string quartet or a conga line, etc?
  16. I was just going to say, someone was doing Connections! I didn't get it either. I don't pronounce the l, so I don't have an excuse.
  17. This is me. If something ever happened to dh, I would have to hire out everything. I'm intelligent enough to learn how to do these things, but have zero desire and my brain just shuts down when I watch videos or read instructions. I so don't care. But since dh is able and willing to learn all the things, I just do what I'm told, we save money, and we're both happy.
  18. Dh is pretty handy, and I'm a decent assistant, so we do a lot ourselves even though we could afford to hire it out. He does simple electrical and plumbing. We installed new patio doors and will install new windows next year. He did the drywall repair after a sewer backup in our basement, but we definitely hired out the remediation beforehand, lol. He has put in floor tile and we're laying lvp right now. I do the painting, landscaping and mowing plus housework and cooking. He does the outside painting. He does simple car repairs, but we hire out the oil change, tire rotation, and anything major or puzzling with the cars. We also use a car wash. We hired roofers. Dh likes doing projects and will be retiring in a couple of years, so I don't see any shift in hiring out until such time as he decides it's not worth it anymore.
  19. I had a yoga teacher who would put little sandbags on our feet when our legs were up on the wall. The added weight felt really good for some reason.
  20. The only time I wear a bra for comfort is when I'm doing a bouncy exercise. Otherwise I loathe them and would never wear one again except for cultural norms that say my nipples make others uncomfortable. I try to wear clothes that hide the fact that I'm not wearing one, and other than some thin T-shirts, usually I can get away with it. I'm an A/B cup and at 58, have some droop but don't care.
  21. Me too! I ended up painting at least a couple of walls several times. Greens are hard.
  22. I had a terrible time settling on a sage I liked that wasn't too muddy and dark for my two rooms which face northwest and don't get much direct light. I finally ended up with BM (but in a Sherwin Williams paint) Fernwood Green at 50%, and I love it. It makes me feel happy when I pass those rooms - very serene and peaceful.
  23. Downside to any pillows is they get misshapen over time (true for fabric and leather both). I prefer tightback sofas for that reason. The downside with Chesterfields is the buttons do come off eventually. So pick your poison!
