  1. Long overdue pedicure. It was nice to take time to do something just for me.

      Good for you!

      Glad you enjoyed your treat!

  2. Check out grammaropolis. We got a great deal through the homeschool buyers coop.
  3. You can share the same apple I'd and have your own email. Just go into your settings and select email. You may want to create her own mail address. As far as Internet, I turned off safari on my kids ipod and ipad and downloaded the McGruff safety guard child safe browser.
  4. We are working through Sonlight and I also have one who I suspect has dysgraphia. Writing is hard for both my boys and we have a list of learning challenges. We don't use the Sonlight LA, but we still use the literature and discuss the questions orally. We recently started using IEW and they suggested letting them type their writing assignments. So to answer your question about being able to make the literature work without the writing, you can absolutely do that with Sonlight.
  5. You can have them work on paper if your trying to cut costs, but we use the workbooks along with the Cd's. They work the problem in the book and plug the answer on the computer. The newer versions are self-grading so it will give the student two attempts to work the problem. The student also can get a step by step breakdown on how to work each problem.
  6. My boys are 12 and have had so many learning challenges. We do have the revised workbooks but I was in such a rush to get them through the levels that we skipped them initially. We are going to start back at book 1. We will probably continue the DVDs, but with me sitting along with them AND using the extra activities in the workbooks. Thanks everybody for all the great input!
  7. Thanks ladies. I requested a refund and they asked me to give it some time so they can get it worked out. For $24.99 and over 48 hrs later, I don't think so. I emailed ITunes and they are granting me a refund. I am so relieved. Nothing, LOL. Which is why I wanted a refund. They are supposed to be able to type the words into the app and is supposed to grade it for you. I thought it would be cool. I really don't have time to wait for them to get it right.
  8. To request a refund? About 48 hours ago I paid $24.99 for a Sequential Spelling app for up to 2 users. However, it won't allow me to add a 2nd user. I contacted the developer and they said it could take up to a day to get it resolved. That was over 24 hours ago. This was not a cheap app and at this point I think I would rather get a refund and spend that on the DVD. should I ask for a refund? How long should I wait to get it resolved?
  9. On iTunes, it's Sequential Spelling. I can't seem to get the nd use working. I'm hoping to hear back soon on getting it resolved.
  10. There is one! Just downloaded it today. We haven't used it yet, but we'll start try that this week.
  11. Thanks ladies. I bought the cd's thinking it will be a big help, but I believe in our case, it has been a hindrance in the sense that I left them to their own working independently. Huge mistake. We re- did the placement test. I am so upset because we are going to start back at square one.
  12. Personally, I can care less. I am a Christian and it doesn't bother me in the least. However, seems a lot of people are upset. This may have already been posted, but I figured I would share. The following was posted on the Sonlight forums. In reading questions and comments here on the Sonlight Forums, and other locations on the 'net, there appears to still be some unanswered questions on this topic. I am aware that there is some perception that we have attempted to be less than forthcoming, which truly could not be further from the truth ... so some more information to aid in dispelling any confusion. InquisiCorp is the umbrella (or parent) company for several wholly own subsidiaries. These include AVYX, Sonlight Curriculum, Brightflash Learning ... The owners and managers of InquisiCorp, as of today, are also the owners and managers of the subsidiary companies listed above. As is common in the business world, the owners and managers of these various companies do not set the same goals or make the same decisions for each company. Each company has its own vision and intended audience, and thus is presented to the public in its own unique way. Thus, products and services for each company may well be distinct and different, even if owned and managed by the same individuals. Those in leadership wear multiple hats, and do their best to make independent decisions for each company, as each company was created to be independent. At the same time, this enables employees and resources in the umbrella company to work with or in any of the various companies as needed. It creates an "economy of scale" for resources, while maintaining separate and distinct identities for each company within the family of InquisiCorp. While this distinction is clear to us internally, it is obvious that it isn't as clear to Sonlight customers. Again, for that confusion, we apologize and are moving forward to make that distinction as clear as possible. I do appreciate the input from those who shared what they felt was confusing ... it is helpful for us as we strive to be as clear as possible.
  13. Yes, after reading your explanation, I would be highly offended by someone who talked to me like that. No way, no how.
  14. Do you keep moving to the next lesson if they missed too many? I know that each day reviews, but I'm wondering if my kids are retaining anything. I love that they do it on the DVD and they do self- correct. Whenever we do the evals every 40 lessons, they hardly remember the word patterns. We are working on level 2 now. Should I keep going or stop and restart level 1?
  15. I am a germaphobe and so I personally don't think your over reacting. If my boys get sick, they get REALLY sick, resulting in seizures. That's not a risk I am willing to take. I think it's pretty darn inconsiderate that people are willing to risk others getting sick like that.
  16. This. Ignore them. You already know what's best for your child. It's easy for others to think they know what's best for your child.
  17. Sometimes, progress is difficult. My boys are 11 and it's been a long journey. In their case, it's not a speech delay. If it's that obvious with your friend's daughter, I'm sure someone has asked about it before. I wouldn't find it offensive, at least not me personally. Just let her know up front you don't mean to be offensive. Hopefully she would understand your coming from a good place.
  18. No, not at all. Both my boys have severe speech apraxia. They were almost three when I realized something was wrong. I would refer your friend to a local Scottish rite clinic for either a free or low cost speech eval.
  19. Me too. I'm sure there are quite a few of us who can relate. (((((HUGS))))))
  20. Thanks for the update. Hopefully you will get some answers soon.
  21. I just saw that on the news. We are about 45 min away from UCF. This is just incredibly sad that it's becoming the norm anymore. Glad to hear your DD is ok.
  22. ((((HUGS))))) I'm sorry. My husband is in law enforcement and I knew what I was getting into, yet it's still hard. No, I know that doesn't compare to the long stretches that you are away from your husband. I can't even imagine. Thank you for the sacrifice you and your family make for the rest of us.
  23. It des get better. You have already received great advice. ((((HUGS)))))))
