My 9th grader is reading The Aeneid and watching the lectures from Romans Road Media. He's also currently reading A Tale of Two Cities. We just finished Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and will begin A Merchant of Venice in 2018. Last year, Julius Caesar was a big hit.

Math - 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week. This includes drills. Writing - One written narration per week. Cursive copywork daily. Writing for grammar, dictation and a science notebook as well. Science - 4 days per week, 20 - 30 minutes.

I combined my 3rd and 6th graders last year in grammar. We used The Sentence Family. My 6th grader had no prior grammar instruction -- we attempted a few lessons, but he was not ready. The Sentence Family worked very well. This year we've moved on to Maxwell's series, but still use what we learned from The Sentence Family.

I had a consultation for this school year. I've been CM educating for the past 5 years, piecing it all together myself, but I decided to splurge and see what book recommendations I would get from the ADE ladies. The ladies asked about my children and catered their recommendations according to their academic ability -- I have an advanced Year 9 student and average Year 7 and Year 4 students as well as a bright Year 1 student. We were able to combine my Year 7 and Year 4 students in several subjects (British and Canadian history, Practical Geometry, Grammar) and my Year 4 and Year 1 students are combined in a couple of Science readings. The scheduling cards are included in your consultation and are especially helpful when writing out a schedule for your child to follow. I appreciated the different symbols in differentiating between a reading subject or a skills subject; it helps my kids vary their lessons so Math isn't followed by Grammar, then Dictation and then a Composition lesson as those all require similar brain power. I'm not sure if I will commit to a consultation for next year. It will depend on funds. I may invest in a few of the training videos offered by ADE or I may sign up for The Alveary to access all their training materials and helpful information.

CM's lesson times were not 15 minutes across the board. In early elementary, the lessons were at most 20 minutes, but students worked up to 45 minute lessons in many subjects as they progressed through the forms (grades).

We have one bookcase in the living room and each child has their own shelf with a large basket/bin on their shelf to hold many of the books. If they want to do their lessons in another room, it's easy to grab the bin and run. One of the shelves is for shared books, read-alouds, Bibles, etc. There's a basket in the living room for our nature notebooks and drawing instruction books, as well as a basket for atlases. There's a dresser in the living room for our MT selections, each drawer of the dresser is for a different day of the week. I took two upper kitchen cupboards and stored all our art supplies. Everything is separated and stored in baskets, mugs or small planters. It works better than anything I've tried. I'm often in the kitchen so I can easily tidy it while cooking and the younger children can't get into it and make a mess (without climbing).

My oldest and I used Fallacy Detective this year in 7th. He could have easily done it earlier, but I didn't own it earlier. He read a chapter each week on his own, we discussed it together. At the end of each chapter, scenarios are given and you decide which fallacy, if any. Rather than attempting to map out a logic path for the next several years, I suggest purchasing Fallacy Detective to see if your son is ready.

Yes, I should state my resources are not my own ideas. I like AO, Charlotte Mason Help, A Mind in the Light, etc. and pick and choose from each. A Primary History of British Isles can be found here. I have printed this out, but have not pre-read it yet. It's in my stack.
