  1. Candid, thank you so much for the detailed reply! I agree she will need to learn a bunch of project management skills. She taught herself how to do power point just becuase she likes making presentations!! Though she will have to take classes on how to use the other office products.
  2. I will take a look at these books. Thanks for your help. We are lucky we have a a college near us that has a Tourism and Hospitality degree. So I am going to start researching what things they require for this degree. If anyone else has any ideas please continue to post!
  3. My daughter wants to go into Event Planning specifically planning Weddings at Disney World! Of course working at Disney World would be the ultimate dream job, and she is only starting 9th grade this year so we will see if this lasts. I work full time so what I need is either an online class or a curriculum that she can pretty much do on her own. This would be for an elective this year, it can be either a one semester class or full year. Any help or ideas on where I might find this type of class would be very helpful. thanks so much!
  4. Trying to decide what to do for French 1 next year for 9th grade next year for my daughter. Just wondering how much talk time they really have each week. We dont know anyone who speaks French so any class time to really talk would be the only time she would be able to practice with someone else. I looked at TPS but not sure we can make the weekly class times they have. I've read good reviews for this one though. Thanks for any input!
  5. My 8th grade daughter just finished the 1 semester class on Debra Bell's middle school tools. It was just what we needed someone else giving constructive comments on her writing. The teacher Mrs. Breault was great. We are planning on taking the Intro to Literature and Academic Writing for 9th grade English next year. I would recommend this class to anyone.
  6. Jules, thank you so much for replying. I was going to move forward and sign up because my daughter needs exactly what you stated below. I will definately come back and update this after we have started the class. Thanks again!
  7. Just wondering if anyone else has done her online class for middle schoolers. It is the 15 week course online called Middle School Tools for English Excellence. It is 275.00 so I'm hesitant because of the cost but my 8th grade daughter needs someone else looking at her writing and thought this looked like something that would really expand her writing abilities.

  9. Thanks to you all for taking time to comment. She hasnt really read any of those authors so I think I'll take the rest of this year and have her read some of the books by the authors you mentioned. Then I'll see where we are at come next fall. Thanks again for your input it has given me a lot to consider on what she is currently reading :)
  10. Ok my first post on these boards but have been lurking for quite some time :001_smile: We pulled our daughter out of 6th grade last Feb. and started homeschooling YIKES!! This year she wanted to try Romeo and Juliet and lets just say it was a big bust. Next year I was thinking of doing Jane Austen books for the year, she loves anything with romance and falling in love. I havent read any of these books but just the short plots on spark notes, and these seem to fit what she would be interested in. My question is an 8th grader capable of really understanding these books??? I would probably just use spark notes unless there is something else out there that would work as well??? I am still trying to find our way, and any help on this would be greatly appreciated for this topic!!! Thanks!
