As long as you are meeting the college admission requirements,  it won't matter.   My oldest ended up with quite a few Social Studies credits due to Dual Enrollment.

    9th- World Geography

    10th- US History

    11th & 12th Dual Enrollment, each 1 credit

    US History 1877-Present

    Government/Political Science

    Psychology

    Macroeconomics

    Microeconomics

She also took an Art history class at college- not sure if it counted for a fine art or social studies.

DD2 is just in 10th,  so far

9th- World History (1) and World Religions (.5)

10th- US History to Reconstruction (1)

11th- US History Reconstruction to Present (not sure if this will be 1 or .5), and DE Political Science in Spring (1)

What did you use for 9th World Geography? Thanks!

  2. We will be traveling for the last upcoming gymnastics meets in PA and hopefully FL for DD3. We also will need to travel to move DD2 out of University in May and take DD3 to University in June for a summer program. It will be me traveling for these trips with the girls and we will be flying to all except PA. DD2 will also fly to AF Field Training this summer as well. Just waiting to hear when.

Then in August as a family we have to get both daughters back to University. At this time we are hoping to be able to visit the Ark Encounter, but we will see how things are going overall.

  3. I second the FB group! We registered our daughter in Freshman year because she qualified for the highest level of competition, JO Nationals, and the coaching pool wanted a number.

I just submitted her CCW’s Monday morning and she was certified “Early Academic Qualifier” with 15/16 courses approved by Thursday morning! She was also offered a spot on the gymnastics team at a school she loves on Thursday afternoon!
Excited and relieved to be done with the whole process!

  4. DD #2 is taking two AP's this year in Lang/Comp and U.S. Gov't. Her softball team is traveling to a tournament in TN next week. Thankfully, a local private school has agreed to let her test with them so that she can go with the team. I think I am more stressed than her about it.

My son is in biology, and we're also pleased.  I don't know how many students are in each class, but I definitely get the impression that Dr. Wile knows who is who.  My son is in eighth grade and going to a B&M high school next year, and I wanted him to have some outside accountability and to learn to study.  It has been very effective from that standpoint.  He also enjoys the class and is engaged in the lectures even though biology is not his passion.  Dr. Wile is a gifted teacher, and he handles the old earth/young earth division tactfully.  Bio requires that you buy the dissection kit as well as a few other things that we (1) get plenty of notice on; and (2) either have around the house or can get from the grocery story.  I don't know that it's the most intense biology class you could take, but that isn't at all what we were looking for.  If we were going to continue with homeschooling, I would definitely enroll my son in chem and/or physics next year.

Definitely the two lines I put in bold print. My daughter missed class on day because we were traveling and I forgot to tell him. We got a personal email wondering where she was and detailing how she could listen to the lecture. Gifted teacher and I wish he was teaching the Advanced classes too so my daughter could continue with him.

  6. I was skeptical at first but glad we did go with one.  Since last November my washer broke (twice) and was replaced, dryer broke and was fixed, dishwasher broke and was fixed. I am happy with our service and the professionals that come out for service.

  7. Interesting...can you tell me more? My daughter is taking two exams this year, U.S. Government and English Language, at two different schools in different states. For the Government test she is testing in TN because her softball team is playing in a tournament there during testing week. The English test will be taken when she returns home.

Any information would be helpful to know as this is her first time testing. Thanks!

We have done thousands and thousands of miles of driving for our kids' activities. And spent thousands of dollars on them. But everyone has had different experiences and we made decisions based on the individual child, not a group decision for all because time and money are finite.

    • ds1- lots of talent, especially in music, no internal drive. Wanted to play travel ball, but he is a rec level player and we said no. He played rec and on a small private high school team for a couple of years. He liked to do different things-but didn't want to focus only on one thing.
    • dd1-huge athletic talent, ridiculous internal drive- she competed on the national level in two sports until she was 14, then chose swimming. She is currently on scholarship swimming D1. We spent a ton on her, but now her college bill is very, very small.
    • ds2-little athletic ability-no musical ability- had to require anything other than judo. We have spent very, very little on his sports-but they do require driving. He has his own version of an internal drive- and recently was promoted to black belt and regional referee.
    • dd2- pretty good talent, crazy drive for success. She swims exclusively-so not as much money as her sister, and she is expecting to swim D1 on scholarship somewhere. She drives the bus, so to speak, and pushes herself too hard (I think), but this is all from her.
    • ds3-huge athletic talent, huge drive. He was a great swimmer but has moved to tennis. Tennis is $$$ and he has gotten help from his grandmothers and saves all his $ for tennis rackets and shoes. We are doing what we can for him and he has proved over the past year that he really is good enough and he will work hard day in and day out.

The hardest thing we had to do was try to objectively evaluate our kids' abilities without making them upset. Honestly, it helped a lot that dd1 was so gifted. Ds1 saw how good she was and how every coach she ever had reacted to her and he understood that while a good athlete, he was not like his sister. It made him look to sports that were fun for him, baseball and water polo, and just enjoyed his opportunities. There has been very little jealousy over the unequal division of resources because we really tried (and explained to the kids) to give them individually what they needed to the best of our ability. I don't regret any of it-the time in the car, the travel, and even the money because life is short with kids at home and I always believed that God gave me these kids and gave them their talents and I had a duty to help them develop their talents to the best of my ability.

    This!

I have 5 children at home and all five play a sport. 2 gymnasts (Lv10 & my little one training Lv7 now), two softball players, and my boy just started teeball. The days are long and the money spent is mind boggling, but all the sacrifices are worth it in the end.
