  1. My ds is ONLY 12 and he's got the attitude already. Really, does he have to argue with EVERYTHING I tell him?!?! And instead of asking, he TELLS me what he's going to do. I don't think so. I keep saying he'll be a good leader someday, just very tough to parent. I pray that he is a leader, because he doesn't take instruction well!
  2. I could not give up my MK (well, I suppose I could IF I had to) But, I find that it's a great value, because I use so little and it lasts a long time. I have used it for over 20 yrs and when I have strayed, my skin has suffered. I LOVE their Timewise skincare. I could (and do) use drug store makeup, but not skincare! I agree about selling it or look on ebay. You can find it cheaper on there. Or, do you know anyone who would go in on it with you? You get a lot with the consultant kit and sometimes they have a special for $50.00. I have been a consultant a couple times, but now I have someone who sells it to me at a discount. You could also ask around. Some consultants run good specials.
  3. We will be using MFW Exp - 1850 next year. I own TT Exp and Colonial. I plan on using it for notebooking and lapbook and maybe a few crafts. We will not read the text. That is my plan. We'll see how it goes ;0)
  4. Yes, we are doing it over 2 years, three days a week. I will have a 7th and 5th grader. I am also going to do some of the notebook and lapbook activities from Time Traveller cds one day a week and a 50 state study one year and Ohio history the next. It sounds like a lot writing it out, but I'm hoping it'll work;0) I am excited about it! I love the looks of the writing assignments! Hopefully it'll make them think a little. I am not getting the workbooks though. I think they'll have plenty to do with all the other work. Oh, I'm also going to have them copy the bible verse at the end of each chapter.
  5. Have you looked at Galloping the Globe? You could use that and add a lot of the books from WP or MFW?
  6. Misty, a lot of good questions. He did meridian testing. As far as yeast, I'm not sure. He explained everything to me, but I don't remember. My ds is on FNG homeopathic drops. The autoimmune thing may be because he was treated for Lyme disease a year ago. Maybe autoimmune Lyme. This boy has always had issues with being on a lot of antibiotics, hyper as a young child, now more "out of it", hives, lyme, sensitivities to chemicals, mold, milk, corn, sugar, etc. Gluten could be an issue. We have tried gf at different times. I think he and I do better with no gluten. But not 100% sure. I guess I could try again and see if that helps.
  7. This is typical behavior for him, only magnified by the treatment. I am praying that in the long-run this will help him. I just need some pointers on HOW to deal with his attitude when hormones and health issues are magnifying his already questionable behavior.
  8. My ds is 12 and is definately in puberty, growth spurt, voice changing and attitude! He was screened in preschool and had an iep for adhd, but at the end of the year they released him from it and said he was fine. He's always had issues with diet, sugar, dyes, etc. Needs to get enough sleep, very strong willed, and SMART. He also has food allergies and I recently took him to a naturopath. He has homeopathic drops for fungus, environmental(chemicals, electrical currents, radiation), and pancreas. The dr said he has an overgrowth of fungus, sugar issues, chemical sensitivity, and possibly autoimmune issues(inflamation in his body). I know he's going through detox, but he's driving me crazy. Everything I say he argues with! The more I try to discipline him, the worse he is! I just don't know how to deal with him. I get so frustrated. I feel like I have a toddler still. I have to remind him of everything! He's wanting more freedom, like his friends, but I don't think he's mature enough for it. Everything I read about ADHD sounds like my boy, but not extreme. Please give me some pointers on how to handle him. We've tried chore charts, rewards, schedules, consequences, but none of those things seem to change the way his brain works:( I love him dearly and want to help him.
  9. Thanks for sharing! This looks great for my 2nd grader! I have really been struggling with what to use for her. My 2 olders will be doing ATB.
  10. I am a MFW user who tried HOD a few different times. I love the idea of it, but couldn't make it work. I have 3 dc - 1st, 4th, and 6th. I love to combine as much as possible and I just couldn't do it with HOD. MFW is not perfect, but much more tweakable for my gang.
  11. Not sure what to do. My ds12 is doing Rainbow Science physics and chemistry this year. I asked what he'd like to study next year and he said physics and chemistry. I don't think we'll continue the second year of Rainbow. I have Apologia General here. But, I don't know if I should hone in on his interests or give him a more general overview. IF I decide to go with his interests I'm looking at either NOEO Chem 3 and Exploration Education or God's Design plus science kits. I know they are totally different, but there are aspects of both that I like. WWYD? And if you have a science-minded kid who loves physics and chem, what curriculum would you use? TIA
  12. Thanks everyone. I think I am leaning toward BJU7 for ds. He used BJU4 and wrote some good papers. He's a pretty natural writer, so I think this will work well for him. For my dd9, I'm not sure. She definately needs the handholding with writing. I like that R&S explains it well and is very gentle. I like the wb format of CLE and that everything is in one place, but I just am not sure if there's enough writing instruction. I've heard negative reviews over the years.
  13. I am looking for a long-term language arts program to stick with! I want it to include grammar and writing and I don't really want to supplement writing much. I know these are all 3 good choices and there are things I like and dislike about each. Which would you recommend and why? TIA
  14. Hi Susie, just wanted to let you know I just posted this for sale. So you don't pay full price if you're interested.
  15. Thanks for your suggestions everyone! 3byzaz, did you enjoy the James study and the plant and animal study? Did you use MFW's schedule or just do it on your own? I may have to get the TEs for Exp to 1850 and Bigger and compare.
  16. I am driving myself crazy trying to decide between these 2 options. I have a ds12 and 2 dds, 10 and 6. I have always combined the older 2 in MFW. I KNOW there is no perfect curriculum, but there are things I really like out of all 3 of these. I guess I just want it all!!! I like how Notgrass is very predictible each day with reading and then wb, mapwork, timeline, etc. I also like that literature is scheduled with questions and the original documents. My son is an independant learner and probably ADHD. I think the set-up would work great for him. I like Bigger and the fun crafty stuff for my girls. And I love the book selections for the extension. I would probably read these aloud to my girls. BUT, I also like that MFW is 4 days a week, combines Am and World history, schedules everything, studies Presidents, states and capitals, patriotic songs, and recipes. Oh and not to mention the hymns and all the great books! Help, I cannot decide, there is just too much to like about both of these options. WWYD???
  17. I am using level 3 and 5. Love it! We are on week six or seven. It starts off the week with a spelling rule. The first day of the week they read the rule and the words and definitions. Then there is a pretest. Instead of that, I have my dc write the words out. There is a lesson each day that takes about 15 minutes done independently. There are crosswords, word scrambles, copywork, etc. I quiz my dc orally on day 5 and so far they can spell most of the words correctly without studying. It's a keeper for us :0)
  18. How do you like it so far? Likes? Dislikes? What is the read-aloud list like? What ages are you using it with and is it appropriate for the age-span they recommend? How long does it take each day? Thanks!
  19. How did you like it? Does it include biblical history? Could you compare it to Biblioplan? Pros? Cons? Thanks!
