  1. How about Maine Forest Academy
  2. I plan on using Winter Promise Children Around the World next school year.
  3. We spend anywhere from $1200 -$1500 a month on our 2 vehicles. We travel with my husbands job so we are on the road alot. I guess we are just use to the prices, I hadn't noticed much difference.
  4. I only was able to vote yes because I dusted my room yesterday. LOL
  5. I have them in a closet sitting on shelves. I also have some in my RV closet. I keep most of my dress shoes in their boxes so I stack them. Boots and casual shoes sit on the shelves since I wear them more.
  6. I love shoes and never have less than about 50 pairs. Cheaper shoes hurt my feet so I buy good-quality shoes. I've actually downsized my shoe collection, it was once well over 100 pairs. My kids have less shoes than I do but they usually have 10-15 pair at any given time.
  7. We have 4 full school days and 1 (usually Friday) as a half day or for catch up if needed. It has helped take the stress out for me and for my kids as we know everything on our weekly lesson plan will be completed before the next week. We also use weekends if necessary to finish our week. My 14 yr old does more work on the half day then the others but he is still finished earlier then the full days so he doesn't mind. I find we get more accomplished this way than 5 full days, it's less stressful, and I don't have the "we're so behind" feeling anymore. Now when life gets in the way, we can go with the flow because it doesn't mess with my lessons anymore. Not sure if it would work for you but you could try for a couple of weeks and see how it goes. I plan on the weekends for our next week. If I see where we didn't finish something from the past week, I just add it to the next week. I use a planner page I made for our lessons. I print one out for each child, usually on colored paper and one for family classes. Our daily schedule is basically just a guide line. We do school from 9 - 12-ish - take 1 hour for lunch and start school back up around 1-ish. I am finished teaching by 2, sometimes 3. Some kids are finished by this time but my oldest is usually still working. Everyone is finished by 4 most days.
  8. I don't shower in the morning but I do take a shower every night. I can't stand the thought of waiting to bathe until morning after I've cleaned my house, played with the dog, exercised, been outside, etc all day. It would be like sleeping in filth to me. I usually go to bed fairly late so my hair is already dry so no soggy pillows (lol).
  9. I only buy the teacher's manuals for the answer key. My kids check their own math when they are finished so I buy the manuals for them to use. They are not needed (IMO) for actually teaching the class.
  10. We have many unread books as well as books we've read. I love buying supplies for science, art & crafts, math manipulatives, etc. My latest obsession is e-books & printable worksheets, etc. because I thought it would save me space and maybe a little money. I now have hundreds (if not thousands but who's counting!) of neatly organized files on an external hard drive. I seldom get rid of anything school - related. I have the "just in case we may need it someday" syndrome.
  11. I don't really have a budget. I figure out what we need, research programs and buy whichever ones we like the best. I have 5 kids and spend around $5,000. to $6,000. a year on curriculum, books, supplies, etc.
  12. We're not a military family but do travel year-round for my husband's job. He is an independent contractor and works on power plants all over the U.S. We have a 42ft fifth wheel toy hauler so we take our "home" with us. We have a house too but it's used mostly for storage now since we are never there. Traveling was not the main reason we chose to homeschool but now homeschooling is the only way to keep our family together. We may be at a job for a couple of weeks or a few months so putting the children in public schools would not work.
  13. Of course you can. Some programs are easier to combine grades/levels than others but it can be done with most curriculum. Considering God's Creation can be used for both grades you mentioned. It is not a complete program IMO but you could then add an Apologia text and some living books to make it meatier. Throw in some writing/research assignments, drawing, worksheets (if you use them), along with some experiments and you have a science program.
  14. We use only Authorized King James versions here. I plan on buying replica's of the 1560 Geneva Bible and the 1537 Coverdale/Matthews Bible.
