Pull down faucets - do you like them?
Debbie in London replied to mamapjama's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I've only had mine 1 1/2 years but love it. The only time I had a problem was when the weight got knocked off but I snapped it back on and haven't had a problem since. Debbie -

Are you committed to homeschooling?
Debbie in London replied to jld's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We're committed to doing what we think is best for our children. When we came back to the States we moved to a wonderful area with superior public schools, so we enrolled our boys. They both had excellent first years but DS9 has expressed an interest in coming back home so we are evaluating that right now. Debbie -
No vacation club
Debbie in London replied to Mom-ninja.'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
No vacation for us. We had Hawaii scheduled for this month but decided to cancel to save money. My boys went to PS this past year and I missed them so much. I'm not going to miss going on vacation because I'll be enjoying all the time I get to spend with them. :grouphug: (As a side, DS9 might be coming back home next year.) Debbie -
I don't enjoy camping so nope, not a vacation for me.

What do you drive as a car?
Debbie in London replied to duckens's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We have an '09 Honda Odyssey and an '09 Honda Accord. We love them both! Debbie -
We just started Fractions yesterday and we're already on chapter 6. We love it! We are using it as a supplement with MM, but at the rate we're going he's going to get to the new concepts in LoF before they are taught in MM. I guess that's already happened, though, since he didn't know radius and diameter before yesterday. He's very mathy so I'm not worried. I'm using it in a similar fashion to Paula. DS9 is an excellent reader but since he wouldn't wait to start the book and I wanted to make sure he was understanding, we're reading it together. Also, I was very interested in seeing what all the excitement was about. :) We cuddle on the sofa and I do most of the reading. He does the math and anything he can do verbally, he does (fine motor issues). I'm enjoying it so much I plan on purchasing them all. But I can see they wouldn't be for everyone, and in fact, DS13 isn't interested at all. He sat with us when we did the 1st chapter but he'd much rather have a textbook. Debbie

We do it in black and white, also. I can see where having it in color would be nice but DS9 doesn't mind b&w. Debbie

MM: download vs. CD? and printing ?s
Debbie in London replied to momtolgd's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I chose to download, as well. I bought the Light Blue series and it did come zipped. I got an error when I tried to download so I left it for DH and he downloaded it for me without a problem. I'm not the most computer savvy. :) Debbie -
Pre-Algebra: Saxon or Chalkdust
Debbie in London replied to cheryl h's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We just started CD pre-algebra. The DVD instruction is excellent. It was so engaging, my mathy DS9 grabbed a white board (so he could work problems) and watched the whole lesson on square roots with his brother. Debbie -
Summer Plans?
Debbie in London replied to LibrarianMom's topic in Parents' Forum Afterschooling Board
I don't work outside the home but thought I would post anyway. :) DS13: IEW & Foerster Algebra DS9: IEW, Math Mammoth, LoF and the summer packet from PS Both boys will be reading, doing swim lessons and lots of golf (lessons, leagues & tournaments). Debbie -
Tina, how difficult is it to use two different levels? I have a just turned 7 year old and an 11 year old and feel that they should really probably use different levels but I wasn't sure I would actually do it if doing them separate would be too time consuming. I have a hard time fitting everything in and like to combine them when possible. Thanks, Debbie

What's Your Biggest Homeschooling Challenge?
Debbie in London replied to Isa's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
My biggest challenge is finding a balance between at home studies and outside activities and field trips. We don't have a car and use public transport to get around, so when we go anywhere it's atleast a half day affair. We probably won't be here for more than an year from now so I would hate to stop going to places but I also have so many "traditional" school things I want to get done. I'm having a hard time finding the right balance so this is definitely my biggest challenge. Debbie -
For those of you who do copywork...
Debbie in London replied to stephanie's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I just added copywork to our schedule two or three weeks ago. I've been having my 1st grader do a little everyday. Debbie
