I think it has effected their upbringing in that we promote hard work and academic excellence in hopes of receiving scholarships. So far so good. I have a morbid fear of borrowing money my parents passed to me courtesy of their parents living in fear of losing their farms. What the kids choose to study is up to them. I didn't resent being poor though. That may make a difference. My dad owned his own mechanic shop. He could have made more working at a factory but would have hated it so I have a background in "follow your dreams". My leaving my career to homeschool is a similar choice. Uh oh...if I'm still doing this? My parents grew up honest to God hungry and barefoot. I grew up in the '70's. I wadn't hungry but dad hunted, we had a garden and the family raised hogs at my uncles farm we butchered. Honestly I never felt bad about hand me downs, etc. By the time I cared in jr. High I worked to buy anything I thought I had to have. Maybe it is in whether it bothers you or not. I'm using my mom's, grandmothers' and MIL'S dishes, glasses, furniture, etc. It works fine. I see nothing wrong with grilled cheese and a can of soup/raw veggies, make your own aandwiches, meatball or other hot subs I briolette some cheese on a hoagie roll then warm meatballs in pizza sauce, micro deli roast beef and micro peppers and onions in a separate container, etc. In a pinch toaster waffles (I make my own but whatever), sausage in micro, fruit. Also I broil hash brown patties and sausage too. I cook pork roast, shred some with bbq to reheat for sandwiches with cole slaw and season some with southwest spices to roll in tortillas. Does anyone else find this interesting? It explains me better than Myers-Briggs, etc. The struggle is how to apply this to myself to make changes I want to make. Adding, I do think the girls gain confidence, learn about presenting themselves, our troop uses funds to learn budgeting and they pick a charity to receive a donation.
