  1. I realize most of the population lives in cities and suburbs but if you live in the middle of corn and bean fields and the nearest grocery is 20 miles away walkikng or biking is not an option. My kids school would be 22 miles away if they went. Though we try to group errands and trips any library, classes, groups or just friends requires driving. Modern life and society take time. Even though our family attempts to not join the crazy a certain amount is necessary to keep the kids happy and fed. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  2. When mine were little, they each had 3 pants, 5 shirts and one Sunday outfit and one set of PJ's. I rotated things that are made of pieces like blocks, puzzles, Lincoln Logs. One item per week. I kept the others in a Rubbermaid tote in my room. I downsized doll clothes and play food and rotated the little ones books. I hate bits and bobs. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  3. I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread but I think what we really have is a faulty, industrial revolution view of humans. We think of our lives as something to make more productive and our bodies as machines to be fueled. Eating is something we squeeze in and consume at our desk or in our car. Our jobs demand more productivity with fewer workers and 24 hour availability through modern tech. Sleep is "non-productive" time as is lots of time spent cooking and dining together. We've let media convince us boxes or grabbing a dinner at the drive thru is more efficient. We put our kids into the same improvable mold and spend evenings dashing to activities. Time for socializing,in person, seems to be impossible to find. Now I don't think every person is doing all those things but as a culture it is a way of viewing the world. That is much more difficult to change than taxing pop (soda). Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  4. We ate pancakes at church. Easiest meals this week :) Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  5. If full sized pastry I plan 2 per participant or 8 mini muffins. These are also easily frozen for the next event, church meal, etc. Depending on budget some cheese cubes and fruit would be nice. Make the menu known so that if that doesn't work for a participant they can plan. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  6. My kids have opted for cash. I believe in getting people what they ask for. A keepsake for one is clutter for another. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  7. I'm just so sorry. Other than calling and alerting the doc/hospital she is on her way to see I don't know. I think thee husband needs to be aware he could be in danger. I am so sorry. Hugs to you. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  8. My dh's automatic question is never, "Hello, How was your day?, How did it go?" His first question to every text, phone call or interruption is always "What's wrong?" To his credit I am a Tigger, but he soldiers on. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  9. I use Hard Candy "glamoflage", apply with a small brush and immediately use another brush to apply setting powder to avoid the crease thing. I use Elf setting powder c'cause I'm cheap. [emoji16] Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  10. I could have written this about the 14 yuo who is dipping her toe into some public classes. Her complaint is student behavior and lack of consequences. I'm tired of explaining you can't legislate morality and common sense. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  11. In the theater where my kids perform tech week is mandatory. No exceptions (barring death or dismemberment). Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  12. Did not like Disney. Loved the Everglades and Homassosa Springs mnanatees. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  13. Well I think traditionally "teens" we're just adults who were working. In the early 1900's my grandmother left home at 14 to work as a domestic and my grandfather went to work on a farm at 13. That is pretty separate. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  14. Hugs and prayers Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  15. I would say, given a neurotypical kid, that letting a child eat only trash is abusive. You are not withholding food. I tend to the old Ellyn Setter idea of parents decide what food and when and the child decides how much. Making accommodation like the white bread is ok. Making a whole separate meal is another. 16. I, too, get violently I'll when I take a narcotic. That was no fun to discover. I worry what will happen if I ever have bad pain. When I had horrible sciatica I got tylenol :( Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  17. So it sounds like you've got some helpful things in place. I do know breaking it down with him in itty bitty chunks helped mine. He needed me to work with him to get things in place. Once he got over seeing it as overwhelming he did better. I am a pretty scattered, absent minded type so we could communicate well. Does the CC have any skills tutoring or classes on study skills, organization, anything like that? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  18. Hmm, January was a mixed bag. My diet was so-so but I lost 4 pounds. My yoga was up but my running was down. My sleep careens all over the place. That is partly my fault. I need to be more consistent with my "grow light". I'm reading The Economist's Diet which dovetails nicely with my No-S. I'd like to lose 6 more pounds. I'm trying to be patient. I'll be in bulky sweaters until the end of April anyway. Leggings and a long sweater RULE ;) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  19. In my area, you've got heroin or nothing. This country hates addicts but has only very meager resources for help. Even fewer if you're poor or have no insurance coverage for rehab. And so people here die. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  20. My prayers for your family. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  21. Yep. Our house is totally panelled. I have painted every wall and all the wood, cabinets, etc is white. I haven't had any problem keeping it clean these last 17 years. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  22. Ok, some just depends on the kid. I'm not sure of your son's age. Some of it does come with age/experience. 1. Does he see it as a problem? 2. Is he medicated for add, anxiety, etc? 3. Would he be open to counseling-behaviorsl, career, emotional? We as moms care so, so much but we can't care more than the child if we want it to be about them. Hugs mama. Your love shines through here. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  23. Me three. Hugs to all your family. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
  24. Vent-My insurance only allows mail order unless it is a one time med like abx. It is a royal pain. I hate it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
