  1. What about Christian Liberty Press CLASS plan? I use it for my 6th grader. http://www.homeschools.org/whatIsCLASS/index.html
  2. I am on my 3rd or 4th month of taking a prescribed progesterone cream due to a blood test showing lower levels. My dr. suggested it after I complained of extreme moodiness and other PMS problems. I find that the one week I am not taking it that I become depressed and end up crying about everything. It has also helped with a few other things. I'm still trying to decide if it's really going to work or if I might need something stronger for the moodiness.
  3. I grew up w/o AC on a pig farm. Not a nice smell to wake up to! I use to cool off by getting in the shower with all my clothes on and then would go back outside to play. And at night another shower, lots of baby powder, a wet wash cloth on the neck and a big box fan blowing right on me. Now I can't live without AC but enjoy the outdoors by swimming or mowing the yard (believe it or not). Next year we'll have a garden but I sure don't want to pull weeds in the heat. I just try to soak up the outdoors in the evenings and the spring, fall, and winter. Cindy in AR
  4. Wal-Mart carries a set for about $190 depending on where you live. I bought a used set at a thrift store for $60. I think Big Lots (if they are still around) had some. And you can always get plans and have them made. My husband might try that for our next set. Cindy
  5. We caught ours with a racoon trap and then took it off to a federal park and released it. You can call a "pest control" person to do this or buy your own trap. And try putting something heavy on the cans if possible. At least it's not a bear! At my last house we thought for sure we had a bear coming to try to get into our dog food container and just recently we heard there was one running around in that area. Cindy in Arkansas
  6. I haven't used it but am considering it myself. I think it might be too new to have been used a lot. You can download the first three chapters at the Knowledge Quest website. Cindy in AR
  7. We are going to use MOH Vol. 1 along with the SOTW readers. I love the Biblical aspect of MOH and love the fact that SOTW was written by a Christian. I'm assuming she doesn't write about evolution. I don't plan on doing all the work suggested in the MOH book but we will probably put together our own simple notebook to go with it using Amy Pak's (?) timeline figures. I can print them, have them color them in and paste them in their notebooks. I might do the map work for them or with them depending on how interested they are. I also thought about using A Child's Geography:Holy Land sold by Knowledge Quest. It looks really interesting. It might have to wait for later though. Cindy in AR
  8. I'm shocked at this. I can't believe the example they are setting. Another good reason not to send kids to public school.
  9. No, I wasn't prepared and I still don't know that I am prepared. Child rearing is hard enough let alone homeschooling on top of it. Oh, and don't forget the hormones! I guess God wanted to keep us humble with the hormones and all the mistakes we make with our children. I just pray that it's easier for my children to deal with the stress. I don't know how these women with several children do it. I greatly respect them but I just can't handle it. Maybe it's because I was the baby of three girls, mom did everything for us, and I was 30 years old before I got married. Too much freedom and laziness spoiled me for life. I joke about this but I know it's seriously not funny. Maybe I need some medication or something. The progestrone cream doesn't seem to be strong enough!! :) Cindy in AR dd-9yr ds-7yr ds-18mo and adopted
  10. I don't know the answers to your questions but am considering using MOH also. I didn't even know they had a cd-rom.
  11. Good question. I've only been doing this a few years so I am interested to hear what others say. Although each family and each child is different and so there is no "right" way.
  12. The "Trees" poem is my father's favorite. He's just an old farmer who doesn't have much of an education but he can choose a good poem.
  13. I have met Steven Curtis Chapman and got to eat lunch with his brother Herbie. On a family note, unfortunetly my great uncle, John Birkhead, suggested the idea of the humanist manifesto to John Milton and hung out with his in the early 1930's. My husband use to live on property owned by John Paul Jones and his 5th Greatgrandfather so something like that lived a mile from Patrick Henry and guarded him during the Rev. War.
  14. I can't imagine what they must be going through. We just adopted a little boy and I can't imagine losing him.
