  1. Seems to me the reasoning behind this is backward. Good thing the pss doesn't try and teach everything this way. First ingrain the wrong way to do things and then hope that when children have grown up they will automatically know how to do things right.:banghead: Or maybe they do....... I agree with alot of the other posters that since I graduation I have not had to experience any of the wierdness that I did while in the pss.
  2. Thanks for the suggestions, still undecided. For now I'm just checking books out from the library on the different parts of speech.
  3. http://www.mathabacus.com/ I am interested in knowing if anyone is using this/has used this?
  4. I did know that there were animal sacrifices.:tongue_smilie: I suppposed they were not the norm but just happened as God asked for them, more of a personal type relationship than the sacrifices of the law. I need to read The old testament again. My grand plan for school was that as we were reading through history I would read along in my bible. That didn't go according to plan. I did not know there was tithing before the law,you don't happen to know a scripture reference for that? Thanks
  5. have been said to have been "practicing" Israelites while they were in captivity in Egypt. Were they offering sacrafices? I realized the other night while talking to a friend that I always assumed they weren't and didn't even know how since they didn't have the books of the law yet. Which seemed to explain to me the golden calf incident while Moses was talking to God and getting the ten commandments. But then I was reading Exodus 8 where Moses is talking to Pharoh about releasing the Israelites and in verse 25 Pharoh tells him to go sacrafice in the land so presumably they knew how to sacrafice but weren't allowed to. Of couse they weren't always slaves in Egypt but were once shepherds in Goshen. What would their worship and sacrafices have looked like before the tabernacle and the books of the law? I've been mulling this over and wondered what others thought.
  6. here http://www.equip.org/articles/the-divine-sovereignty-human-responsibility-debate-part-one They also have other articles on Calvinism vs. Arminianism. I can't get my head round it all, so I can make no valuable comment except that I stuggle with these concepts on and off.
  7. I found a list the other day in the (Parents' Forum K-8 Curriculum Board)-the thread was called Abbrieviation:Sticky, I think? Hope this helps. All the acronyms are quite confusing for me too.
  8. I also have a piece of plexiglass from Lowes that dd uses with a dry erase or overhead marker, then ds can use the workbook after her.
  9. (the magazine) usualy has recipes with less meat and even a Vegetarian section. I don't always follow the recipe exactly but they give me good ideas that can be tweaked. You can search and print off for free from here-> http://www.cookinglight.com/food/recipe-finder/ Their search engine is pretty good for weeding things out you don't want too. I'll just add that soups or stews and dishes with pasta as a base are also a good way to add more vegies and reduce meat with out it being too noticable to kiddos. Mine anyway. I hope this helps.
  10. is what we have, it does touch on technique( shading etc.) different mediums, not very deeply though. It is mostly, what the title says it is=history of christian art. There is a lot of copying of masters and we haven't got very far:bored:. My daughter (9) also bought herself one of his on, what else, Horses. She goes through it by herself reading the lesson and then completing it, she and I both like the horse book better. I can't put my finger on why though, as they are both set up the same. I guess I thought that in G&HofA there would be more technical info, gone into deeper and that it would help her improve her drawing and sketching. There is just not enough to help her to be a better artist. Don't know if this has made any sense, I'm doing and listening to 10 things at once. As usual:tongue_smilie: Too many voices in my head:drool:
  11. Sorry, I'm terribly thick about the acronyms. I never can seem to decide what they stand for  Could you please give me the full names of the curiculms you're talking about?:001_unsure: I just found another post with a link to Acronyms for curriculum, so never mind the above.
  12. So, I've been going through PLL this year with my Daughter. I like the style and variation in the lessons. It's going well and she is starting to write her own chapter books. A great opportunity for spelling, grammar and penmanship work (she's learning without it being school). But, I feel like we need something more specific on the rules of grammar and punctuation. PLL seems vague on rules to me. I was public schooled and taught myself grammar from reading so I can see what's wrong when I'm reading her work but can't always state a rule for her. Any suggestions? Even if it were just a book for me to use as a reference, to correct her work and to explain to her why this or that must be done in a certain way.
  13. I'm just seeing if I can post.
