  1. It's the underlying theme of that particular sport. Macho, hit 'em hard, we are the champions, blah, blah, blah
  2. Yes. Boys are put on some sick pedestal when it comes to football. The whole "Look at me I am the quarterback dating the sexy cheerleader......" Barf
  3. Absolutely. What these boys did and bragged/tweeted about was just disgusting. They knew full well what they were doing. The fact that the media even MENTIONED that they are football stars just makes me want to vomit. WHAT does that have to do with it but make football look even worse in light of all that has been covered up with the Penn St case.
  4. Agree!!! If I never hear about freakin kilts and cupcakes again it will be too soon. It's like this little land of happy where people go to try and find equality with others so they can all feel accepted. Hard to get through a thread when it gets all stupid.
  5. My problem with it was this line Mr. Mays pleading with the girl not to press charges because doing so would damage his football career — even as the girl grew angry that he seemed to care more about football than her welfare. I live in a town where footballs players stole a car and wrecked the night before the homecoming game. You know what happened? NOTHING on a school level and it was the TRAINER'S car! We have a gross football mentality here and sadly they are all so disillusioned because this is not an area that turns out pro players. It is the parents living vicariously through the kids.
  6. Sonlight.org-no you can't just change your stance or adjust your focus Sonlight.com-heck yes you can because you are for profit I don't see the uproar honestly. Is there a club that one needs to belong to in order to get a lit based program?
  7. Wouldn't a truly christian company accept all views and not discriminate and judge based on religion? It seems to me if their product is that great then in the interest of education they would want to reach as many families and people as they can. My guess is that they are reacting to requests of potential customers/schools and genuinely wanting to help. Shouldn't we assume the best of a religious publisher and not start throwing stones? In the end they will gain more business than they lose so it will be a win-win for them and a loss for those that get all mad and walk away. KWIM?
  8. I would think that by producing a secular product they are simply being open-minded and accepting of other religions. If they offer a good product why exclude faiths other than christian. Christians do not own the market on religion so why be exclusive? If they completely STOPPED offering a religious curriculum then I could see being upset. Aren't there bigger things to worry about than this since it really isn't effecting your life unless they change the homeschool plans? The list of being mad is so long so why add to it. Chick-fil-A and gays, Wal-mart and low wages/foreign products....you could be pissed off for the rest of your life. If you like Sonlight and it works then just roll along and don't take everything personally, right?
  9. My mother had twins back in 1965 and no family around to help her. No car. No money for diapers so they used cloth and no washer in the house so she had to walk to a laundromat. Lived in a small single trailer near an airforce base. Best of all she didn't know she was having twins until at 7 months she went into labor, delivered the first, and they said, "we have an arm here". Do you feel better now lol? But really it is hard to do after you are used to singles. She said she never knew it was hard until she had me and I was only one baby. You will make. Let schedules be your friend! Can you rotate kids with duties??
  10. Hmmmm....Most of the homeschoolers in the area are religious so that makes me the odd man out. Even more strangely I am drawn to CC for my younger dd in the fall and that has a religious base but I found a liberal campus.
  11. Ha! This is what I wanted once we had kids. Sidewalks and pretty lawns. Now I want to run from here screaming. I am a liberal, atheist, witchery, stay at home mom surrounded by the opposite. I live behind the local high school and the people around here worship the whole school and football mom thing. Barf. We are soccer players here and although my 2 oldest go to public the younger 4 never will. I am the odd man out.
  12. It is hard to tell with used cars isn't it? My friend got a used Volkswagon van. Great brand but the car is terrible and has had nothing but issues. But yes the Odyssey is simply amazing isn't it??
  13. And conversely I don't want to spend money on the lemon someone just got rid of, know what I mean? We generally only turn in cars when there is an issue with them How can you be sure you aren't just inheriting someone else's problem? And yes they drop initially in price but my 2009 Odyssey was worth MORE than the lease terms and they gave us 2K toward the new lease when we turned it in because the dealer wanted to buy it outright and not turn it over to Honda. For me, the knowledge of hopping in a car this Friday to drive 13 hours with no reservation is my peace of mind. Watching the dash for a light to come on? BTDT NOT going back.
  14. I have started a lowest price list. I keep track of the lowest prices I pay for certain things and then I know of a sale is truly a good sale or not. I also coupon and use a new app for my phone called ibbota. It has money you can earn from buying stuff by scanning the receipt and the barcode of what you bought. I ahve earned $15 in 2 months buying stuff on sale and with coupons.
  15. Can I ask what specifically oils are good for? I own a BUNCH of pine oil that I thought I could use to help scent counter spray. Have yet to make it work. I also have orange and lemon which I need a use for.
  16. I am weird about cars. After having a few clunkers in my early years and being stranded I am TERRIFIED of being stuck with a car full of kids. I lease my honda odyssey and will continue to do so. I need to know that I have a reliable and newer car to trust in. DH just got a 2013 Altima to replace his old one that was paid off. It is a 2006 with 125K miles on it and DS 17 inherited it. I "thought" we were going to go with the more economical Scion TC which is made by Toyota.....but since he commutes so far and makes all the money who was I to argue.
  17. How about all the HOURS the author is missing if she doesn't homeschool? Hmmmmmm
  18. The public beach areas on HH are busier than the resort front beaches. We have gone every year at least 1 time since 2001. WE LOVE HH. Myrtle Beach is gross. Dirty beaches every day that have to be combed by the large machines. We own at the Marriot Surf Watch resort and there is also a Disney resort there too. Having been raised on Long Island I find it hard to find what I would call packed beaches lol. Stick with an ocean front resort that has it's own access and you will be fine.
  19. I just saw that you have your eye on Geneseo!! DH and are are grads of Geneseo (class of 90 and 91) and I did my masters there as well. SUPER school in a very awesome little town.
  20. For me cohabitation is just outright admitting that you are having premarital sex instead of living apart pretending it isn't happening. I find it funny to even consider religion as a factor in divorce since most people have had premarital sex. Find me a religion that okays that. It's the old pick and choose which rules you want to follow game. 22 years and DH and I are still going strong. Is religion involved-heck no. Focusing on US is what has kept us together.
  21. I can honestly say that when I consider all of the marriages around me there is no religious rhyme or reason. 1 marriage the guy looked for younger greener pastures. That I believe was due to them just growing apart and not really having much in common anymore due to his change in professions(became a farmer and she is sooooo not a farm person). Another they were both VERY religious. He up and left her with 4 kids and a few years later the one son hung himself. No clue where he went off to. The next 3 are 3 of the 4 kids I grew up next to. Very catholic family. 1 is going on her third marriage, one her husband hit her and she left, the last the wife was totally controlling and he no longer even gets to see his kids. I personally think that your spouse needs to be your number 1 priority so you don't lose sight of that person. No amount of religion or lack of religion is going to intervene and help if you aren't best friends.
  22. I humbly suggest doing short spurts of academics. Cross off half of those problems in those books. Go back to TT and reinforce with games. Do you have a sizable white board? How about putting up a few sentences on the board and let them use different colors to correct the mistakes? Put them on teams. I use daily grammar and it is light but gets the basics done and can be fun if done on a board with markers. Go to the library and let them take out 4-5 books on topics they will enjoy or create a book basket your self. Let them narrate to you and give them some light copy work. We all get to where you are I think. Every winter I find myself shopping curriculum because I am bored. This year I vowed to stick with it.
  23. I don't get even having a clue about how a marriage works unless you have been in one. Sex, intimacy, the day to day nuances of a relationship.....they have no idea. It would be like giving advice on Math Mammoth when you have only read reviews but never used it.
  24. I forgot to add that I always run speed cycle on my washer. 43 minutes. What in the world do I need 78 minutes of washing for??? We don't roll in the mud or work a farm around here. The only time I use another cycle is for really dingy soccer stuff that needs an extra hot and extra long washing. Hope that helps!
