  1. Yeah, we are all tired of all the emails too -- LOL! I was hoping this would fix it, but maybe not. Maybe we will unsubscribe from them too.
  2. They looked all through the portal options. I looked as well and went through the mailed paperwork. Just going to email these 3 and call it done unless they ask for something else.
  3. Thank you. This is what I said, but I wanted to check here :-).
  4. The boys are trying to decline 4 acceptances. One had a cardboard mailer "thing" to fill out with their decision and those will be mailed back tomorrow. The other 3, when they go on the website, just talks about next steps, paying the deposit, and so on. How do they notify the school? Just send them an email and ask? For JMU and UMW, there was an accept or decline button. These 3 don't have that option.
  5. Mine haven't wanted them before either. One would probably do ok as he can walk his entire campus in 10-15 minutes. The other has long hilly walks in the mountains. He may want one - something light, but warm. We will see.
  6. I know girls and boys may have different requirements and I only have boys. I'm putting together my lists (x 2) for needed items (bedding, toiletries, electronics, school supplies, etc.). I have a really good start already from my research so far. My guys want to do minimalist for their dorms, which works for me, and I will only be an hour away from one and about an hour and a half from the other. What do they pack for clothes (like amount of)? I am especially interested in how many pairs of underwear and socks (how many weeks worth 🤣). Mine don't have a ton of clothes now (a weeks worth), and we just do laundry often. They mostly athletic wear out of the house (gym pants or shorts, t-shirts, hoodies). I know that will continue at school, but also plan to have a pair of jeans, dress pants, a few nicer shirts, 1 dress shirt and a tie (business majors). For shoes, 2 pairs of tennis shoes, 1 pair of Crocs (their preferred), shower shoes, rain boots (?), dressy tennis shoes (they already have these), and maybe something for snow (for the one going to school in the mountains for sure). One of my guys will be working out at the gym a lot too 😁. They don't currently have winter coats (they prefer hoodies, but aren't currently walking far to classes) so will look for those and I think a rain jacket with hood. Any input greatly appreciated. Gonna be an expensive 2023.
  7. I made it to 16 with no phone for both of my boys. That was almost as hard as getting them a phone and dealing with all that entails😔. They are almost 18 now and I no longer monitor their phones. They are great about location sharing, even with one of them dating now, and we will all have 360 on our phones as they go away to college. Just a safety thing. I won't be able to control what they do on their phones when they are at school so I'm praying I've taught them the right things and am letting it go. ETA: DS1 forgot location sharing was on for awhile. He was always honest about where he and girlfriend were during their dates and he likes I don't pester him with texts, etc. on his dates because I can check to see where he is if I am worried.
  8. I’m so sorry 😔. I’m sure that is hard on her and on you (hugs). I really do feel like all our kiddos are going to do phenomenal wherever they are planted. Maybe start getting super excited about dorm shopping, etc. 🤗
  9. When your kids start declining acceptances, will they just hit the decline button in the portals or will they also send an email thanking the school for the opportunity. A don’t burn your bridges kind of thing?
  10. DH has one that he used to commute to DC everyday for work. I have one that I have used for years and went to Disney World several times, all our fieldtrips, all baseball games and swim meets. Love our Bean backpacks! The boys have used small ones from Costco for years because they don't carry much in them at one time. These will last through college and beyond (hopefully).
  11. I'm currently into dorm research and shopping mode -- 🤪. If anyone is thinking of getting LL Bean backpacks, they may be backordered to April/May already (both of mine are). It will only get worse as we get closer to back to school. I would order sooner than later if you want one of these.
  12. Thank you. This year, dorm choice is not tied to FSEM and I’m happy about that. I’m glad to hear she liked Virginia. We’ve been in Willard already and will get to see the other 3 dorms in April.
  13. Is the one of the most wanted?!?! Fabulous news 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
  14. Something pretty to look at that I found on Etsy. Not all colleges are there, but there are quite a few. They are note cards, but you can get bigger prints made too. Both of my boys' schools are there. https://www.etsy.com/shop/elgreenart?ref=usf_2020&section_id=27051477 There are other Esty shops that have other college stuff like this too.
  15. I am going from my iPhone 12 Pro Max to the 14 Pro Max tomorrow. My DH needs a new phone (like he can't make or receive any calls anymore on it) and he wants to take mine and get me the new one for the better camera. I will need a new case for the 14 Pro Max. Me and my boys are using this one https://www.amazon.com/SPIDERCASE-Designed-Waterproof-Protector-Shockproof/dp/B099RZMRV9/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3MRUKLHEU80QX&keywords=spidercase%2Bfor%2Biphone%2B12%2BPro%2Bmax&qid=1678380149&sprefix=spidercase%2Bfor%2Biphone%2B12%2Bpro%2Bmax%2Caps%2C67&sr=8-2&th=1 . It wasn't too expensive and has held up well for almost 2 years. I was looking for the same one for the 14 Pro Max, but don't see it. What I especially like about my current case is that the plastic covers (back and front) are built into the case so I don't have to put those on separately. Any recommendations? For my old Samsung, I used an Otterbox, but that would be a little too bulky for me with this bigger phone (my Samsung was small - think 2014 small).
  16. For me, it would depend greatly on who the someone is.
  17. Duluths. They have long tail shirts and are good quality.
  18. We were all around DS2 before he tested positive. We isolated him after his test. I was the only around him after that and I was masked until DS1 tested positive and they isolated together. DS1 started a scratchy throat and tested positive 5 days later, but was negative 3 days later. DS2 was positive for over 12 days. Who knows with this crazy virus.
  19. One of mine has had both and one has just had metal. I think it is painful anytime they are making an adjustment. For Invisalign, it is when they move to the next set of them - each time. In our experience, adding the bands always hurt for a couple of days. I had soft foods available and they took some meds for the pain. Unfortunately, I think it is just part of the process :-(. I think metal is probably a little harder than the Invisalign, but the Invisalign isn't without discomfort.
  20. I can only speak from experience. DS1 tested positive 5 days after DS2. DH and I never tested positive. I would be cautiously optimistic that he avoided it, but would continue to isolate from him. If it were me, I would not expose your new brother and his family to this on Sunday.
  21. I was just coming back to add some info. When I did this for baseball, it was easy to manage for the 12 or so kids on the team. Our swim team has over 200 swimmers. We currently utilize a password to allow parents to view the photos on Shutterfly. How would Google Drive work with 200+ families? Also, we upload about 500 pics of each swim meet (6 meets), and maybe 750 for our last meet (3 teams at Divisonals). We have 2 to 3 people taking pictures each meet that would need to upload. Someone on the Board of Directors is currently saving all the pics on Shutterfly from 2013 😱. I would think, whatever we use, we could give people time to get their photos before we delete everything for the next year. I don't think we need to keep them so long, but I only took over the Shutterfly account in the past few years. My boys only have 1 or 2 years left and they age out.
  22. I am looking for a free photo sharing site (for sports teams, etc.). I used to post baseball pictures on Shutterfly's share site for years and our summer swim team has used that site for years to post pictures for our swim families to view, print, and download. I am hoping to find an alternate since Shutterfly is shutting that feature down in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions? Or if a paid service, something that isn't too expensive? I am one of the team photographers and we are trying to find a solution for this summer's photos.
  23. I met my roommate at orientation and we hit it off for that day (way before social media). However, she was a nightmare and I went home every weekend and cried on my mom's shoulder every time I had to drive back. Got the RA involved and everything. She locked me out of my room (I was in a friend's room down the hall) to have tEa in our room 🙄. This was just one of many things that weren't good. Thankfully, I got a new roommate the 2nd semester and we stayed together the remainder of college. Ironically, her crappy roommate and my crappy roommate decided they wanted to room together and we were ok with it. Best thing ever!
  24. 🙄 Neither of my guys want to do the social media thing to find a roommate. I know mine aren't the only ones. In the JMU 2027 FB group, all the girl moms are wanting to know where to go to find roommates. Insta, FB, etc. A boy mom responded that her son said, "H$LL no to that!" LOL. A bunch of responded the same of our sons. A lot of the boys are saying they are going to wing it and meet people when they get there. JMU has pretty good success with roommate matching. Not sure about UMW, but I guess we will find out. I'm going to let it go since mine aren't doing the social media thing. Anyone going through this? Boys or girls?
  25. Thanks all! DS2 is going to pick the dorms with the hall baths for freshman year. Those were renovated in 2020 and 2021 and are super nice. Huge rooms with tall ceilings, big windows, and nice furniture. He will be eligible to move into their on-campus apartments next year that are 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room. Each bedroom is for 2 students (like a dorm room) with a bathroom in each bedroom. That would only be 2 to a bathroom then. If we can get him a single in those apartments for a little more $$$, we will do that. That would be the perfect place for him.
