  2. :grouphug:, Kel. I'm in the same \___/ [my feeble attempt at a boat ]. Thank you for being courageous enough to say it. You're not alone. My mantra as of late, "As long as he's progressing...."
  3. The lessons within CLE are much more straight-forward; less wordy, if you will. Saxon, to us, was unnecessarily wordy. My boys also like that you can work directly in the book. (In Saxon they have to re-write the problems.) I do think it's different enough that it will seem new to him. Have you been able to preview the samples to compare?
  4. Ginger, these are exactly my considerations and feelings for our 8th grader ds next year! The one recurring thought I have is that he will never have a chance to do the SL EH again, but American history will be required for high school. However, he prefers the time period study in WP AC. [sigh] Decisions, decisions...
  5. bumping... This is in the running for us too. :bigear:
  6. That is awesome, Carmen! I am *so* glad to hear it! Many things to be thankful for. :)

  7. Hey Carmen! I am doing very well, thank you. After my radiation uptake test last year, which showed hyperthyroidism, combined with blood tests that didn't, I honestly believe I was healed by God's hand through the prayer of believers like you. My endocrinologist just kept shaking his head in disbelief.... Needless to say, I'm so thankful. How about you???

  8. I'm considering this for one of our dss and I'm hoping I can get some feedback from users. ~ Do your dc like it, or at least tolerate it? ;) ~ Do you think the instruction is clear? ~ And, do you think it's good for a visual-spatial learner? Thoughts greatly appreciated,
  9. We have been pleasantly surprised with A Beka's 7th grade course. It is well-written and rich. The experiments are worthwhile and plentiful with most being easy enough to do with things you would likely have on hand. We enjoyed the Apologia elementary series too, but ds was not wild about the amount of reading the General Science course. We previewed them both and he chose A Beka.
  10. Our pediatrician suspects mild adhd in our 10yo ds based on a few symptoms I shared with him. Is it standard protocol to send the dc to a psychologist for testing? I've heard that some peds treat it directly.

  12. Repeating what the others have said... I ♥ their math! It's very thorough, clear, wholesome, in workbook format, and affordable.
  13. This is what has worked well for our now 10yo ds: CLE Math Winston Grammar Heritage Studies (BJU's elementary series) I wish I could say FLL worked for him. The diagramming did some, but the oral instruction is where I'd often lose him.
  14. You could continue with WWE and add in Easy Grammar for parts of speech and punctuation. Or maybe something like CLE? It's an all-in-one that's independent and a workbook format that would provide grammar, spelling, and penmanship.
  15. Saxon: Our 7th grader uses it independently. I purchased the DIVE cds but he prefers reading the lesson on his own (as designed) and is about half-way thru Saxon 8/7. He does need help occasionally, but does about 95% of it on his own. Pros: independent, straight-forward, incremental, thorough, has several additional available cd-rom or dvd options Cons: might be boring for some dc, some dc may need more practice of the new concept (a complaint I've heard before), and it is not liberal with visuals for the middle grades (the reason I won't use it for our son with an LD)
  16. Thank you, Heidi. I like the looks of Story Starters in particular.
  17. Good question, T. Either or both would be helpful. :)
  18. Please share what has worked well for you and your dc. Our 10yo ds is reading well, but loathes composition. :tongue_smilie:
  19. YW. I wish they would make those needful things easier to find.:tongue_smilie:
  20. I consider myself a CMer at ♥ too. We've implemented copywork, dictation, and narration across the board for several years now and I've seen the fruits. However, I had that panicky feeling of having to teach my dc grammar the more conventional way and did so along side our CM method. Even so, they didn't start to retain it until about 5th grade. In essence, I've had the opposite experience... wishing I'd waited for formal grammar study. My 2 cents. :)
