  1. :grouphug: I feel your pain but I am not having to hunker down or be prepared for such conditions, even though we are in TX. Stay safe.

    MedicMom,  :grouphug:  to you too.

Gf of ds is in an area that will likely be hit with major flooding, although ds said the forecast had changed. :glare: I think not. A hurricane is a hurricane. A CAT 4...well....

  2. At the time, reactions showed I was allergic to house dust and cigarette smoke. Now they say it is an allergy to the droppings of dust mites I think.

I had shots from about 11 years of age until I was 16 maybe. It worked. I used to be sick all the time growing up, but of course I lived in a house with a smoker.

For a few years I was okay but when I started having kids I ended up getting most every little sniffle and cough and flu the kids had.

Since we've moved to the south I have seasonal allergies, just runny nose and some sinus drainage, headaches. I take sudafed or the off-brand because I can't take anything else. Works for me.

Keeping up with vacuuming and dusting is a big one, as well as making sure the AC air filter is changed at least monthly.

Definitely hope you can quickly get some relief. I know how hard it can be to feel like poorly all the time.

  3. Thank you. I had tried finding the Brainerd/Kellogg grammar book on the Gutenberg site but couldn't locate it. I had it on a CD from a homeschool program but it doesn't work with my laptop anymore.

These all look like very helpful resources. I have been trying to figure out how I'm going to pull it together for this school year. Feeling a little sad about losing momentum and kids nearing the end of the homeschooling journey; grateful for the successes of the older ones though.

  4. If you do any social media using your name, either delete your accounts or lock them down as tight as possible. Make sure your family and children don't have wide open social media accounts either. I mean, I would be concerned that he could find out information about you through them. I was surprised how much information can be gathered just by looking at a FB account of a person that's not even a friend.

I'm kind of creeped out he is still considering contacting you at this point in the game, 12 years ago?

You should not have to be looking over your shoulder 12 years later.

  5. I miss the OBX. We honeymooned there and have been back a few times. We rented a big house the last time, went fishing, kayaking on the sound, stayed in the Rodanthe area.

Lots of fun stuff to do.

We also love Ocracoke and have taken the ferry to Ocracoke three times. Glad you had a great trip.

We went to the aquarium on Roanoke Island which was great for a drizzly day.

Ellie: Your heritage explains it all. lol But sorry about the family reunion that didn't happen. :(

  6. ugh. I bet you're glad you took him in for it. One time my dh got his finger tip yanked/nipped off by machinery at work. It is not very nice looking now. They did operate on it, taking some of the skin from the finger next to it to help close it up and finish it off. His fingernail is shorter, finger is a little shorter.

    Movies and naps for him!

  7. #14 welder's glasses are listed as okay. So if you or someone in your family welds, or you have a welding supply company around the corner...

I just don't want to risk damaging my eyes and we are not going to be in a good location for it anyway. I figure I'll catch it next time, in about 375 years. lol.

timeanddate dot com has wonderful graphics for the eclipse for each area in the U.S.

  8. If you could afford it, fly to Miami from Cocoa, drive to Key Largo area. You don't have to go all the way down the Keys. Key Largo area is just awesome if you love the warm water. In October it will be pleasant, maybe not too crowded.

You can take the boat out to the coral reef and snorkel around if you're both skilled enough. John Pennekamp Park offers boat rides for a fee and supplies the gear, also for a fee.

    The restaurants are awesome.

The bay on one side, the calm ocean on the other.

Of course, that's just me, that's what I'd do. I'd rather go to Key Largo than anywhere else in Florida.

  9. Thank you! We had the feeling faint part so we just got here 😊

    We love updates.

My dh has had so many accidents with his hands and sometimes surgeries because of the accidents. Sick of it. Fortunately, all the accidents were at work.

Years ago as my mom was trimming the hedge, she clipped into her left ring finger up by the nail. Oh. My. Goodness. She was hardly able to talk, practically unable to breathe. Off to the ER with her.

I hope your dh's thumb heals up quickly.

  10. I will read the rest of the thread after I post.

The reasons I wear make-up...I look like I have no eyelashes at this point in my life if I don't put on mascara. And I touch up the eyebrows as well.

I also wear foundation once in awhile because my complexion is not evenly shaded. I guess it's partly hormonal, but also some redness or splotchiness on my chin. No, it is not rosacea.

I used to use a wonderful moisturizer but it is so expensive. I know it kept the bags under my eyes minimized and it really did keep my face smoother.

No, I don't do it for men. I do it for me. I do it more now because I have a job.

  11. With foam in the mouth you should take her in. It could be from something causing nausea rather then poison but the fact that she is hiding and not walking good with foam is not a good sign in a cat.

Agreed! I hope you have a 24 hour urgent care for animals you can take her to.

  12. Tennessee is a fun place to visit, travel through, The Smoky Mountains. We enjoyed Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park in TN.

In Arkansas the Crater of Diamonds State Park and Hot Springs National Park.

I wish we had been able to go to Chickasaw National Wildlife Refuge bordering Arkansas from TN.

Skyline Drive or any part of the Blue RIdge Parkway for a diversion.

  13. NPR did a story on the opioid epidemic last summer.

In order to be admitted to rehab a person has to be having an actual emergency (for instance, a guy had an "accident" due to his abuse of opioids then was able to be admitted to a rehab instead of waiting on the long list or being denied due to health insurance or lack of...)

ANYWAY, besides the obvious (how to stop addictive behavior before it starts), the biggest problem is availability of rehabs and the intensive long-term treatment needed by some.

That to me is the sad part of this story, decent, efficient, affordable rehabs with high quality counseling and treatment programs.

Maine is having a very difficult time with heroin addiction, overdoses, deaths.

In some areas of the country, emergency services can't hardly keep EMTs due to the increase of overdoses and deaths they have to attend to and dangerous circumstances surrounding those situations.

Edited to add: I think I might be spinning off in a direction this thread wasn't intended but it is still a branch of the tree.
