  1. Central Texas, we've got 6"+ of heavy wet snow, did I mention it is white, and still snowing very hard? :D Just wish we had snow boots!
  2. Some quarries will let you come in and get large rocks (boulders) for a pretty low price. There may be more going on with your neighbors than you could ever imagine. I would do the rocks if the neighbors truly seem hostile.
  3. Cut up your chicken how you prefer, or something different. Saute in olive oil, we throw some sesame seeds on it, when it is almost done, sprinkle some tamari (soy sauce) on it (optional). Since we have vegetarians we also have a stir fry pan of bok choy cut up (use lots, it cooks down small), onion, ginger root matchsticks, brocolli, zucchini, peppers if you like. We are on a jag with jasmine rice. The ginger root we peel by hand, and cut tiny matchstick size.
  4. Having moved to Texas from Maryland a year ago, we miss the snow! I found out recently that our son jumped off the roof of our rancher a couple of years ago after two big back to back snowstorms. :willy_nilly:
  5. Only when I'm not sitting here can I think of things I want to post chat.

I can't remember if I put it on the lds board or not, but I wondered if anyone was satisfied with using R&S English materials for upper elementary and middle grades. We have used Learning Language Arts Through Literature and none of my kids like it or feel a flow with it. I have homeschooled for many years so baby steps are just with posting and putting myself out there to be picked apart, so to speak.

  6. I heard some piggy experts talking about do's and don't's at the 4H Fair. They said no alfalfa, I think they said eventually it will cause problems in the organs. Timothy hay is better. We had piggys and at the time didn't know that about alfalfa. We bought our pigs discount, pet store was going out of business...when I picked one up to put it in the box it felt heavy and plump, picked up the other, skinny and light. One was pregnant, she had FOUR, and pigs are born jumping, squeaking and ready to run.
  7. Hi! I've been reading the LDS beehive posts and I'm looking for friends too. I don't have close friends nearby as we transplanted here a year ago. But I'm looking for friends on WTM. I am surprised how we rip our hearts out, sharing personal stuff! Wow. I feel like I shouldn't have used my name now. Church is different here, and it is just different overall.

  8. I am familiar with Eat To Live. Convert die hard meat eaters, yes, when they get to the point where they feel badly enough from eating it. It is hard to do, I wanted to give it up for years. Two in our home are "vegetarians" and I don't eat much meat now either. When it is less of a choice on the table and fridge they have to eat what is there! Salads, fruit, lots of grains and beans, nuts, lots of new herbs and spices.
  9. I read something you wrote somewhere else (WTM) and thought it was funny.

And now I see you are also LDS perhaps?

I am new to posting and still feel like I am really missing out on some of the stuff I could be doing to get ideas flowing with others, ya know, input, etc. Baby steps I'm still taking...

  10. :iagree:I bought the teacher's guides for those books also, and having looked through them before I bought them, thought I'd use them. No, I don't use them. Tried, but not my style after all.
  11. Having worked in a vitamins, herbs, supplements place, I have heard of it, we carried it. There were a few customers who used it faithfully and were certain it helped them with allergies, energy and brain function. I believe it has to build up in the system, so needs to be taken consistently from the start for a long period of time. I heard fish oil (omega 3) was very beneficial for kids with behavioral issues. There was a brand that was orange cremesicle flavor. That too had to be taken consistently and for a long period of time. And a friend used it for strengthening her immune and nervous systems, she was certain of its benefits.
  12. Okay. Your style sounds like the style I had the first few years of hsing. Come to think of it, the style I still have, in some ways. There are a few things I wish we were doing better with; and I'm really grateful for all the awesome hsing moms who have worked hard at helping their own, and then writing books to give suggestions to the rest of us.

  13. Hi. Just wanted to intro myself, but not sure of etiquette here.

I'm supposed to know what I'm doing at this point in homeschooling but I guess I'm just glad we haven't thrown the towel in, ya know?

18 years or something. I don't know what the folks are referring to in your posts, but I can imagine.

I don't have too many posts yet either, and I want to be able to sell some stuff eventually, maybe.

There are kids in our school district who do not read as well as our 10 yo dd, and these kids are 13, 14, 15.

But they spend millions on the high school stadiums....

  14. I'm still learning about this posting stuff. What state do you live in? Or are you not saying?

Do you use any Latin curriculum or books with your children? You just joined in Sept., and you are hive mind royal larvae. where does one find the different levels listing? yes, i'm up late. i haven't been falling asleep very fast.......my husband takes our 15 dd to seminary so I don't have to worry about that, do you take kids to seminary?

  15. I want to get 50 posts to see how it changes my status.

Wanna help? I guess I'll have to adopt some more friends. I didn't set the homeschooling community on fire when I joined. hmpf.

  16. :iagree:We hadn't moved in 13 years and with kids many ages there was a lot to go through. We rented a small storage unit, our home was on the market for four months and we had showings, at least 3 per week. It wasn't a vacation, but it was almost like it because we just kept everything clean. The realtor would call and say "showing in one hour". We had all clutter packed away and out of sight or out of the house. We all had assignments. It was a different way to live, meals were planned better, and laundry was done more often! We kept a bookshelf for books we needed. Staging in our case meant less furniture. It was a hard market, but I kept thinking positive thoughts about getting it done and had faith it would sell.
  17. Thanks. I'll see what I can find.

  18. Wow, I'm glad I'm not alone. I applaud anyone who finds a doctor competent of treating patients with respect and just being a friendly doctor, open-minded to other forms of treatment, and friendly to homeschoolers.:tongue_smilie:
  19. Do you use herbs? We keep a diffuser for aromatherapy oils but some people use the oils in vaporizers/humidifiers. A good health food store should have oils for such issues. I know, just a simple cough that won't break loose can be really hard to fix! We've successfully used the following herbs in tea form for bronchitis type symptoms, colds, etc.: marshmallow, mullein, coltsfoot, red raspberry leaf, peppermint. When unable to locate marshmallow, I use the tincture of marshmallow. A syrup made of lemon juice, honey, and a little cayenne. (!!!) I've been desperate at times (late at night and nothing else on hand) and rubbed olive oil on the chest and followed up with all the other things I've mentioned next day. And keeping dairy out of the diet, at least until cough is finished,:001_smile: helps too.
  20. Hey! I see you are on unclassical, no wait, classical unschoolers. : )

I think I'll join the group. I have had the tendency to unschool, but I've heard that the unschoolers have certain classifications that I don't meet. Failing at unschooling...

I looked through the social groups and most are falling by the wayside.

I'm trying to get some action going. Want to be friends?

  21. I'm not in your group, I don't know what this is: P90X, but I need an exercise program.

    Any pointers?

  22. Will my status change from just visiting after I post more, and you are hive mind royal larvae? So every time you post it includes your brief bio? I haven't explored enough to know how to add mine. Thanks for the welcome.
  23. Paranoia of putting myself out there, feeling like I'm on a roller coaster ride!:auto: I'm new to all of this and always wondered how one got to be "hive queen" or "worker bee" and any of the other bee titles. I think I'm starting to understand.:001_smile:
