  1. I oversee a group page for a program. We have people who like the page/join the group who stop seeing posts after a while. We finally figured out that if they didn't 'like' a post occasionally they would stop seeing posts. I guess FB figures that if they don't 'like' things or comment they must not be interested anymore.
  2. We started right before ds' 12th birthday. One of the best things we've done for him. He's now 14 and we plan for him to stick with it indefinitely.
  3. If someone here has read it I'd love to know what level of Autism it targets. Is it high functioning Autism or severe, non-verbal with low IQ Autism. I would love to find books written by or about those homeschooling children on the moderate/severe end of the spectrum.
  4. Ds (who will be a college senior this year) swears by http://www.bigwords.com/. He puts in the books he needs and the site searches for the best purchase/rental price out there. He has saved 100s each year using this site.
  5. I'm looking for an app to put on ds' new iPad. We have one on his Kindle called Kids Place. All the apps he's allowed to access we added to Kids Place. He can't access anything else on the Kindle. I can't seem to find one like this in the app store for the iPad. Anyone have suggestions? I will be eternally grateful!!
  6. Our spare is in a horrible spot - right between the front seats under the van. The bolt is right in the floorboard between the seats. Pain to turn. We've been blessed with several flats this year . The repair guys never put the spare back for us. It's always sitting in the back of the van. Pain in the neck to deal with but I've become proficient at taking it down and putting it back.
  7. Thanks to you both! My main desire is to have one that has a cover that folds over the ipad when not in use. It'll spend a lot of time going in and out of backpacks and bags going to and from therapy. Protection is a secondary need. He's had a kindle for 5 years and never broken it but this is much bigger and a lot more expensive. Not worried about water protection but drop protection would be a plus. no need for a handle or strap.
  8. Ds was just given an iPad Air2. We need to get it in a case asap (ds isn't using it until then). I've been looking around Amazon and checking some out but there are too many to know which are good, better or bad. I'm looking for one that protects from falls and covers the buttons and ports (extra points if the screen is covered when not in use). eta - this is for ds with Autism and other developmental/cognitive delays.
  9. OK - now I have to have one of these. Added to my wish list. I just found some really cool liquid chalk markers - the perfect excuse to need a chalkboard
  10. All the time. And then I wonder why I'm cranky
  11. Got it at Costco - it was a kit sort of thing with markers and an eraser (which was horrible) but I really like the board. It's 2ft X 3ft so not huge but just what we needed. What size are you looking for?
  12. Dd used ACT prep books (Kaplan and Barron's) from the library and Khan Academy. She really only needed to prep for the Math section. I believe she also found some older ACT tests online that she did.
  13. We just hung a nice big magnetic whiteboard and it makes me smile :) It's the small (yet not small) things....
  14. Category B. Before our youngest was born we chose based on doctrine, ministry outreach and the openess of the congregation (we've been to churches we loved but if you weren't born into it or had a certain last name it was very hard to make friends) Since our youngest was born with significant special needs our main concern is whether the church is accepting and supportive of those with special needs and our previous criteria. We left our church when he was 2 and found another that welcomed us with open arms. Our church is actively developing ministries to those with SN. We visited dozens before finding our church home. We are non-denom and lean toward charismatic.
  15. We just got Mayer Johnson's Accessible Literacy Learning program for teaching non-verbal students to read. I'm really excited to give it a whirl with ds. We're also using MFW for the first time this year and it looks really good - right at his level (we got the PreK core). We'll have to adjust some of it but I think he'll really enjoy it. We're also sprucing up the school/therapy room and changing out some things we've been using for awhile. There's nothing like getting new, bright manipulatives and games :) We've been at the same level for a long time (ds is 14) so giving us a face lift has been fun for both of us.
  16. You can be gluten intolerant and not test positive for anything. In our house we have two with celiac, one with IBS with a gluten trigger, one with autism who reacts to gluten and the last with an autoimmune disease/inflamation which is triggered by gluten. The whole house is gf. Both my pediatric GI and adult GI have told us that there are lots of people out there who can't tolerate gluten but will never have a positive test for anything gluten related. The symptoms you describe are almost exactly what happens to me when I eat gluten (I am not one of the celiacs). I am a much happier/heathier person when I avoid gluten.
  17. Holy smoke! Go mama!! So glad there was a positive outcome.
  18. Grilled chicken and sausages, roast potatoes and a veggie.
  19. This is marvelous! Thanks for sharing. One of my dd's goals is to build her own library. She'll love this too.
  20. For my grandmother (who has had several rounds with squamous) the next step was Mohs surgery which is a very precise dermatological surgery to remove. Her doctor cuts and tests on the spot to make sure he has clear margins. If not he cuts again and again until he's happy it's clear. We've sometimes spent an entire day with this process. She's never needed any further treatment.
  21. If you click the dropdown in the upper right corner there's an option to unfollow but still remain friends. Nothing from that friend shows up on my page. I go to each friend's page to check in when I want. Mind you I only have about 25 friends so it's not a big deal. I never found a way to see their posts but not their likes.
  22. Totally forgot I posted this in :) Thanks for the links! We love Pamela's - may stick with that for fresh baked. We get the big Udis loaf at Costco but it is expensive! With 5 people eating we go through a loaf in a day. I would love to see the recipe with cream cheese.
  23. We've been GF for a very long time but the one thing that still eludes me is a good sandwich bread recipe. We bake bread all the time but haven't hit on that "this is perfect" loaf yet. The challenge - we can't use rice, potato or corn flours. The flours we keep on hand - almond, millet, oat, coconut, sorghum and teff with arrowroot and tapioca for starches. Hit me with your favorites :)
  24. There's a lot there to look through over a cup of coffee. Thanks for sharing!
